If you need proof that BASA is pulling out all the stops to help Camden hold off Somerset in the South Division, consider these moves:
In the last 24 hours, the Riversharks have added infielder Rene Aqueron and pitcher Alberto Castillo from the Road Warriors. They also acquired DH Jimmy Hurst from the Winnipeg Goldeyes of the Northern League. Hurst was actually Barnstormers property last season, but he never played in Lancaster. Don’t forget, Camden acquired outfielder Danny Bautista last week.
This goes back to one of the fundamental problems with BASA. With four teams under the company’s umbrella, it has to prioritize which teams to improve immediately. At the moment it’s Camden because the Sharks are in a race — and it would be a huge embarrassment if all three BASA teams failed to win the four-team South Division.
Thanks to AtlanticLeagueBaseball.com, which broke this news.

If we don’t get rid of BASA this year then the powers that be don’t care about winning. This is a game! I know it’s also a business but it’s also a GAME! The all around successful teams in the MLB like the Red Sox pay out the money because they want to win. and it pays off. The looser teams like the Pirates are not in it to win and may eventually crumble. They should all care about winning and not about saving a few bucks w/ BASA.
Why don’t you guys get it?
BASA = Keystone Baseball = Barnstormers/Riversharks/Revs
They are ALL BELONG TO THE SAME company. BASA offices are based IN Clipper Magazine Stadium!! They won’t be going any where.
Sorry for my ignorance sire! So how did Somerset get rid of BASA?
THEY aren’t part of the Keystone Baseball empire and were actually paying for the services
I FINALLY GET IT! Sorry, it took a while.
I googled it and what I found was below (and yes it looks like we are screwed indefinitely)….
Opening Day Partners, formerly known as Keystone Baseball, is a company that owns and/or operates affiliated Minor League and independent baseball teams in the United States. Since 1982, Opening Day Partners has owned and operated its own minor league teams, operated teams for others, assisted in the sale and purchase of teams, and advised and consulted with clients from around the world. They currently owns and operates highly successful independent league teams in Lancaster, Pennsylvania (Lancaster Barnstormers) and Camden, New Jersey (Camden Riversharks).
What is interesting with these moves is that Lancaster is playing Somerset 6 times before the all star break. Camden, who was just sweep by Somerset, plays them again right before the break.
You would think that the BASA would help Lancaster a little because of this. What is going to be really embarrising is if Lancaster sweeps or takes 2 of 3 from Camden and Somerset takes the majority of our Home at Home series and Somerset ends up winning anyway.
*sigh*
really makes it hard to want to root for a team when it the rug can be pulled out from under it so quickly.
Maybe alsouthernfan really was a prophet trying to tell us something. Maybe this league is falling apart? Maybe the players are all fed up and will move to Mexico? What if York stadium never gets finished and the team folds and the stadium becomes a place for drug dealers and prostitutes to have their own private babylon!
I’m depressed
Jason, where are you? please enlighten us with hope!
they can install the ice rink and keep it year round
HEy…Why are there aNTS ALL OVER ME!!! AUGH GET OUT OF HERE!!!
Jason, I liked the Code Red! article. Good way to turn that slogan around.
Sorry, I had to cut the grass.
I don’t have much hope other than to suggest that Tuesday’s meltdown was so bad that maybe the heat has been turned up on BASA and Frank Klebe to upgrade Lancaster’s roster.
I actually thought the Barnstormers might do something today because of the negativity on this site and in the newspaper, but — as far as I know — nothing has happened.
Oh, and I don’t write the headlines. Although I liked today’s. I thought it was perfect.
Larry, it Looks like the serum is working on our Mr. Barnstormer!
SHOOT we’re live, get off!!
The only way we will get out of this mess is to not go to the games. It is hard for me to say that and not sure I would even be able to do that. I love baseball. If they start losing money then two things will happen. They will either work at getting us players for we can win and then the fans will come back and they make more money or they will sell the team and then there will be hope. Looks like they pull a fast one on Lancaster and York and their fans.
I really don’t care if the team I root for loses. I still will follow the team because they are my team but it just hurts when you have the deck stacked against us fans.
Well, last year was our year, This year it is Camden’s year to make the playoffs. Then York will be in the playoffs next year and get all the players. Barnstormers will be back in the playoffs in 2009. It will just rotate around the three teams.
Again, we really had a fast one pull on all of us fans!!!!
The big bat is coming to Lancaster.
Lets go Somerset!!! The non BASA team in the Southern division!!! I’m just joking.
Man this sucks. I knew I did not like independent ball and BASA. I just did not know that we are stuck with it.
It is hard to not go to the games because I have already paid for my “season tickets”. Plus I enjoy baseball.
The telling tale will be when you compare “Paid Attendence” to “Gate Attendence”. I know that dos’nt mean anything to the front office because they aready have some of that money but it is interesting to watch and count when the announce the Paid Attendence and you look around and see that it is off by at least 1,000 to 1,500 fans.
And another thing. I hear fans all around me booing them and I am sitting there knowing that some of the reason we are not winning is because of the management and the lack of back-up players. I know our starting guys are tired and need a break. I see them night after night giving 100 persent. The fans that show up only for a Friday or Saturday night game don’t see that.
In search for something to root for…. There’s the fact that we love baseball, and I guess we also have to look at the team not as a franchise like your favorite MLB team, but more as a group of individual players that are on a baseball team in the town you live in or around. Because the “Barnstormers” are really not the Barnstormers we all have thought or painted a picture of. It’s BASA. For myself, it will be hard to screem and boo all in the name of BASA. But if I learn to care about the players and not the franchise, I just might keep on cheering.
I think Jason should have told everyone about Camden’s additions in the last 24 hrs. in his Code Red article which was very, very good. The reason I say that is there are thousands of fans that don’t have a clue about basa or what ODP is doing..like we do.
Oh, since they don’t blog here.
I forgot and made a mistake. Barnstormers will be back in the playoffs in 2010. ODP own’s the Maryland team that is suppose to come into the league next year so they will make the playoffs before us.
I do have one serious statement. I am making fun of when we are going to be in the playoff next with all this crap from ODP and BASA but I really do wonder if Camden wins the first half if ODP will find us or York the players for the second half or just ride Camden all the way.
Everyone roots for their team based on the predication that every team has an equal chance to win. And win or lose, we go to the games and cheer because anything can happen.
But it’s hard being fans of a team that can have players cherry-picked by and for competing teams. It’s the ultimate insult to the fans. Not fielding the best possible team because it’s someone elses turn – well, that wreaks of tampering and fixing. Almost as if the team were being run by Vince McMahon, and we start referring to baseball as “sports entertainment”
PtW – that thought has crossed my mind too.
As stated, we’re not a bad team. just inconsistant. and some of those inconcistancies are related to a very definate lack of depth. It wouldn’t take much to get us over the hump and push us past Somerset.
Though – I’m still rooting for the Patriots in the first half
You brought a tear to my eye Mr B.
I’m rootin for the Pats too! What BASA is doing is such a slap in the face and they are doing it right in front of our faces and insulting everyones intelligence!!
When baseball is rigged you have to question if it is still baseball!
We should change our name to the BASA Blacksox!!
I don’t think anyone should take out their frustrations on the guys who take the field for this team day in and day out. For the most part, they are playing their hardest and would love to be winning, too. I’m still a fan of the TEAM, if not the organization.
SORRY, I’m the BASA Rep. I once again forgot to change my name like an @ss!
I am with you LBS. Root for the team, not the organization.
GO STORMERS BEAT CAMDEN.
So everything is your fault Mr B.
Dad. You are dead to me. And think, I had the highest respect for you until I found out that you work for the BASA.
It was funny seeing Mr. B as a rep saying those things!
unfortunately, I don’t think management would care if you’re rooting for the team or the organization. So long as you’re rooting for someone and still come out to the ballpark.
Hey, I just noticed the #17 comment from a new guy “The Insider”
Sounds like TheInsider might actually be a BASA Rep.? That would be funny if it was and they are trying to divert our attention!
