AT CAMDEN RIVERSHARKS
Ryan Schurman (3-2, 4.15 ERA) vs.
Brett Evert (2-4, 5.82 ERA)
The Barnstormers are set to resume their role as South Division spoilers tonight. Camden is clinging to a half-game lead over Somerset for first place with less than two weeks to play. Evert is coming off his best start of the season. He allowed just three hits in an eight-inning gem against Long Island Friday. Schurman is 1-0 with a 4.50 ERA in two starts against Lancaster this season.
– For those of you wondering, and judging by the hits to this site today a lot of you are, the Jimmy Hurst situation is expected to be resolved Friday. So check back here for an update.
– The Barnstormers have lost four in a row against Camden, including that deflating three-game sweep at the Clip earlier this month.
– Something to keep in mind if this is a close game: Camden used closer Ramon Linares for two innings Wednesday night. He might not be available.
RECORD: 24-29
PLAYER OF THE GAME: Jeremy Todd (2-for-5, launched a pair of solo homers, giving him a team-high 14 for the season).
WHAT WENT RIGHT: Brett Evert has become a reliable part of the rotation. He allowed two earned runs in 6 1/3 innings against Camden Thursday night. The only glitch was five walks. Evert improved to 3-4 and lowered his ERA to 5.40. This was his third quality start in a row. The righthander is still only 26 and was once a highly-regarded prospect. He can pitch his way out of this league.
*Todd continues to methodically pile up power stats. The first baseman is on pace for 33 home runs in a 126-game season. That’s not too shabby. He also has five homers in 16 road games, so his power is not a Clipper creation.
*Dominick Ambrosini went 3-for-4 with his sixth home run. Has anyone noticed this guy is hitting .345? That would rank him in the Top 5 in the league if he qualified. He will qualify soon.
*Vince Blue, who batted ninth, went 1-for-4 with two RBIs.
*Russ Cleveland went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
*The Barnstormers didn’t commit an error.
*Lancaster snapped its three-game losing streak and moved back within 5½ games of Camden and Somerset, which share first place in the South Division. The Barnstormers have 10 more games in the first half.
WHAT WENT WRONG: Very little. It was a cleanly played game by the Barnstormers, but if you want to get picky …
*Mike Woods and Danny Gonzalez, the top two hitters in the lineup, were a combined 0-for-6.
*The game was shortened to 7½ innings by rain.

Can’t wait till Friday. In the meantime,
LET’S GO STORMERS.
Any truth to Bautista not playing for Camden anymore?
Way to go Mr Todd!!!
Bautista is listed as inactive.
Dave…I agree with you about this league being “refreshing”…I have followed it for all 10 years and i have always found it an interesting mix of players and the approach to the game. thanks for stating this so eloquently on the air. I don’t think that everyone on here truly understands some of the nuances of the Atlantic league. Its still pretty new to most on here. I have been guilty of bashing some of the way that things are done in this league but then again no league is perfect.
Tonight’s game in Somerset brought you to by “Pacman” Jones, because someone’s certainly making it rain over here.
What up, doubleheader? Seems very likely…
Dave, Good to hear another good game so far from Brett. Hope that it gets through 5.
Dave,
Did you say that Schurman was from Oregon as well?
Hello all,
How is it going? Just tuned in, what is the score?
Tom
Go Stormers!!!
3 – 0 Stormers
Just heard, 3-0 with storms coming.
How is it going Dave?
Is your family still with you?
Tom
There is that quick inning we wanted
Family will be with me thru Somerset.
And way to go again Jeremy!
Now we’re official!
Dave,
Any idea of the pitch count for Brett?
Thanks Dave
Amy – I’m a newcomer to the league. Was there for opening night in lancaster, but didn’t attend regularily until later last season. So I admit you’ve got a huge head start on me.
nuances are fine – but I think if it were explained better by the league or other people in positions of power, you wouldn’t have as many people (all 5 of us here – ha) feel like we’re banging our heads against the wall in frustration.
I dind’t get a chance to hear Dave’s comments on the league.
Any chance someone has it recorded and can upload it somewhere?
Actually, that brings to mind an idea. Archiving the radio broadcasts so we can listen to them at a later date (like tomorrow during lunch). Does Sportsjuice do that?
Bondo66
How’d Brett do, I just got back to the firehouse?
Another strong outing for Charlie Weatherby at Ottawa tonight …..

6 1/3, 5 walks, 3 K’s, 2 ER’s, on the hook for the win. Sounded good.
Ouch 5 walks???? The ump squeezin’ him or was he wild?
Sounded a bit wild, but he was able to get out of most of his trouble.
Brett had spots of wildness. Maybe a bit of a pinch in the seventh. Still, he was not hit hard, and that is a good sign.
A win’s a win! Glad to see he’s stretching out those starts over 5 innings or more and he sounds like he’s feeling good.
Thanks Dave again
what’s the score? inning??
Good job! Nice work Dave!
8-2 Stormers in the bottom of 8. Rain Delay
thanks much…cant get to a radio or play sports juice
Assuming the Riversharks don’t pull a miracle out of their ass, this loss will put them in a tie with Somerset for the South Division lead.
Go Somerset
I’m sure Somerset will be thrilled to learn that Josh Stevens’ start was pushed back a day. That means he misses Camden and will face the Patriots twice during this six-game, home-and-home series.
In a tie race, that’s a big deal.
Why did Josh’s start get pushed back to miss Camden???
Was it because Somerset is not a BASA team??? That question doesnt come up if BASA doesnt own 3 of the 4 teams in the Southern division.
But then again there has to be some advantage to owning 3 out of 4 teams in the division.
I will take any odds with Stevens pitching.
I can’t believe we did not commit an error. I guess sacrificing a chicken from KFC for dinnr tonight worked. We take tomorrow night and we are almost there.
The fat lady was warming up but I hear she is taking a little break. Mr B, what is your favorite color? I also want to make sure the dress goes with you eyes. I am looking right now at a nice low cut strapless.
As someone who hasn’t seen Stevens pitch before, and as someone who rarely gets genuinely excited about any pitching matchup in the Atlantic League, I’m very excited about that news.
Assuming there’s no Atlantic League ridiculousness going on, the matchups for tomorrows BPT @ SOM doubleheader will be:
G1: SOM Sam Marsonek vs. BPT Bryan Edwards
G2: SOM Keith Ramsey vs. BPT Justin Sturge
Which means that Andy Van Hekken would go on Saturday, Jon Cannon will be the Sunday starter, and Brian Adams will be on the bump Monday.
I love that no errors stat. That stat is one that is underrated. Go defense!!! I am glad to see the guys are still playing hard despite all the crappy cards they keep getting dealt.
If that starting rotation gets in tune (like it looks like they are), help or no help the second half will be much more fun.
MIke, I hope that Josh brings his regular game. His curve gets the opposition swinging like a school kid. It is a beauty to watch.
As an opponent, I am sure you will delight in watching him, just like I used to enjoy (unwillingly) watch Lincoln Mikkelsen from AC.
I’m told Stevens was sick earlier in the week and the team wanted to give him another day. So it flip-flopped Stevens and Lira. For the Barnstormers, no big deal. For Somerset, a bad break.
Stormin—the ultimate optimist. Keep up the good work.
If you really want to see a battle of the curveballs, Ramsey vs. Stevens sounds like it would be the best possible matchup. When it’s working (and lately it has been) Keith has an absolutely devastating 12-6 curveball that seems to just fall off a table once it gets near the plate.
Thanks for the insight, Jason.
Lira has been no push over either. So, Camden might not get that big of a break. Go get ‘em, James
Still, Stevens vs. Van Hekken is nothing to sneeze at…
You’re right, pack. Lira has pitched great as a starter.
What is the current status of Lance?
Last time I talked to Burkhart was Monday. He said he hoped to play by the end of the week. They’re going to be cautious with him, though, because they want him healthy for the second half.
I do like that thinking
Thanks. I am still hoping for a first half champion.
It’s funny. The team has some bad games and then has one like this. You know that they are one or two players from breaking into a “team to be reckond with”.
When Lance comes back and Woods gets some rest so he can get 100% (when we get a infield utility player), look out.
Stormin,
Eye Color: Irish mist Blue
Cup size: A (but I can still pull off the low cut)
uhhh, ew
