VS SOMERSET PATRIOTS
Keith Ramsey (4-1, 4.85 ERA) vs.
Brett Evert (3-4, 5.44 ERA)
Same teams, different venue. The Barnstormers, coming off a three-game sweep in Somerset, can only hope it’s a different result. Evert has recorded three consecutive quality starts and posted a 3.46 ERA in five games in June. Ramsey, a lefty, is making his first start of the season against Lancaster.
Pre-game notes:
– Lance Burkhart has been activated and is back in the lineup in the No. 6 spot. It’s his first appearance since June 10.
– Newcomer Ryan Harris, who was acquired to complete the trade with the Schaumburg Flyers last week, will be in the bullpen for the Barnstormers tonight. He hasn’t pitched in relief since Sept. 1, 1999.
– Closer Derrick DePriest is not available after pitching two innings on back-to-back nights.
Lineups …
SOMERSET (34-23): Danny Garcia, 2B; Elliott Ayala, 3B; Mike Lockwood, CF; Alan Zinter, RF; Josh Pressley, DH; Todd Leathers, 1B; Jose Morban, LF; Travis Anderson, C; Teuris Olivares, SS.
LANCASTER (24-33): Mike Woods, 2B; Danny Gonzalez, SS; Jeremy Todd, 1B; Jutt Hileman, CF; Dominick Ambrosini, LF; Lance Burkhart, DH; Steve Van Note, 3B; Chris Van Rossum, RF; Russ Cleveland, C.
Scoring summary:
FINAL: Barnstormers 12, Patriots 5
Stormers 1st: Ambrosini’s single scores Woods. Burkhart’s double scores Hileman.
Patriots 3rd: Olivares hits solo home run. Ayala’s single scores Garcia. Leathers’ hit by pitch scores Ayala.
Patriots 4th: Olivares’ single scores Anderson.
Stormers 4th: Van Rossum’s sacrifice fly scores Burkhart. Cleveland’s home run scores Van Rossum.
Stormers 6th: Woods’ double scores Van Note and Burkhart. Gonzalez’s triple scores Woods.
Patriots 7th: Leathers’ single scores Lockwood.
Stormers 8th: Woods’ triple scores Van Rossum and Cleveland. Gonzalez’s double scores Woods. Todd’s double scores Gonzalez.
RECORD: 25-33
PLAYER OF THE GAME: Mike Woods (2-for-4 with a double, triple and four RBIs) Not bad for a guy who wasn’t supposed to be in the starting lineup until about an hour before game time.
WHAT WENT RIGHT: The Barnstormers won. It’s that simple. After a 1-5 road trip that included two gut-wrenching extra-inning losses, they needed this one to just feel better about the direction of the team.
*Lancaster crushes at the Clip. This is a different offensive team at home. The Barnstormers have averaged nearly six runs a game at home and 4.7 runs on the road.
*Woods had a monster night. June was a rough month for the second baseman, who batted .180 as he took over the starting job. Initially, Woods wasn’t going to play Tuesday night because Somerset was originally scheduled to start righty Sam Marsonek. When they opted for lefty Keith Ramsey, Klebe made the switch and it paid dividends.
*Lance Burkhart returned and went 1-for-3. The catcher makes a huge difference because of his ability to get on base. He extends innings with walks and gets a lot of extra-base hits.
*Ryan Harris arrived. The righthander, acquired from Schaumburg in the Jimmy Hurst deal, allowed one run in two innings. Harris, a 32-year-old indy league veteran, will try to provide a boost for the bullpen. He hasn’t pitched in relief since 1999.
*Danny Gonzalez went 3-for-4 with two RBIs. He has cemented his status as team MVP for the first half.
*Russ Cleveland belted his fifth home run, a monster shot to the opposite field.
*Brett Evert pitched well enough. He allowed four runs in six innings as he evened his record at 4-4.
*The Barnstormers turned four double plays.
*Lancaster played spoiler. Its win knocked Somerset out of first place. Camden beat the Road Warriors Tuesday night and leads the South Division by a half-game.
WHAT WENT WRONG: Nothing of significance.
*Seven of the nine starters collected hits, the pitching was solid and the team didn’t commit an error.

Alright lets kick some @SS!!
are we online, I’m only getting the station (Fox radio)that comes on when the stream isn’t working from Sportsjuice.
Dave is jumping around the booth so I think he knows something is wrong. Maybe he roke something to give his voice a rest.
Sorry, broke not roke. I have a smaller keyboard now on his Treo.
Nice inning!
go to somersetpatriots.com and listen live. I couldnt get it either
that’s not fair! I can’t hear all the way from Calif! I want to hear that we are kicking some *@# tonight…..Tell Dave to plug it in!!! Just kidding, I’m sure he is doing what he can to get it on.
Good start Brett!!!!!! Time for a beer run! Be right back!
I don’t know if you could say that the Ayala experiment at third base worked last night, I’d have to assume that you’ll eventually see Morban there…
Thanks, I always forget about the other teams’ site!
BEER BEER BEER!!
LEts GO WOODS!!
It’s on, good, I don’t have to hear the other side
Hoooooo Puerto Rico Hooooooo
What just happened?
Storme site back up and running?
Nice slide!
I can’t get Dave online, anyone else able to?
AMBRO! AMBRO! AMBRO!
What is with this batters box and the dirt? Everyone is kicking the dirt out.
Way to go Dom. Woo Hoo.
Welcome back Lance!!!
YES! Nice!
I noticed that too Stormin.
grooooondskeeeeping….
Welcome back Lance.
BEER BEER BEER!
Pacific NW Micro-Brew! Terminator Stout!!!!! MMMMM-MMMM-Gooood
I should not of seen Somerset’s field. I’m depressed at our field.
Elvis music. Oh boy.
SAAAWEEET!
5-4-3 baby
Barnstormer site is not working except commercials, have to listen at the Patriot site.
the double play,,,,one of Brett’s best friends….
“This field, I’ve been on Turner Field and I’ve been on Wrigley Field, the actual playing surface here is nicer than those fields. I can tell you, this is the nicest field I’ve ever stood on, right here. Never in my life have I been on a nicer playing surface. Obviously, that’s a credit to the grounds crew here and how hard they work, but it shows.” – Scott Sobkowiak on Commerce Bank Ballpark, 2005.
Sammy Smiths oatmeal stout is my all time fav.
I’m upset about this listening to the other teams site…..you could say, “i’m hotter than a snakes butt in a wagon rutt”.
alright enough of the Somerset plugs
We’ll have to get Brett to send you a 22oz. of Terminator
Anything with “Terminator” in it has to kick @ss.
That is the scariest AllStar game commercial I have ever seen!
We have to broadcast over a backup system tonight which is not hooked up to feed sportsjuice. I don’t know why that is the case at the radio station when all of their other on-air stuff goes over.
Sounds like BASA is up to it’s old tricks again!
Dave or anyone at the park with a lap-top:
Sounds like the kid brother is hittin’ his spots so far, what’s his velocity?
Yeah I’m here w/ a laptop…. CRAP HR!!
Sounds like the kid brother (Brett) is hittin’ his spots, how’s his velocity? Anyone at the park with a laptop or Treo?
WOW! My signal is behind by about 30 seconds, hence the repeat entry and I just now heard the HR…..Damn!
I’m gonna shut the heck up about hittin’ spots and anything else about pitching from now on!!! My bad! Sorry
84 mph
85 mph
86 mph
87mph
set back and put some on this one Brett!
Dang that sounded like it hurt!
Alright lets get some runs back!!!
If they hit one of our guys there better be some fists thrown!
Sweet we’re back in this B*tch!
Yeah dudes got A SOX HAT ON!
If Josh Pressley played for Newark, would they play “In the Ghetto” when he came to bat?
i think it’d be interesting to hear a few innings of the other teams announcers
who’s DH tonight – Lance or Russ?
both are listed at the top as Catcher
Nice out guys!
Burkhart’s the DH.
Guys I’m so wasted!
What happened to all the concerts here?
They left with all the former big-league players.
I have no idea how you could check this out, but this is the first team I can remember that has zero big leaguers on it. Even the Road Warriors have always had that scattered one or two guys…
Oddity’s rule!
Scott needs a blanket party!
Lets see if Harris can keep a lead?
Hey Jason is That Stormin up there with ya?
Anybody have Brett’s stats on the night?
6.0 IP – 8 H – 4 R – 4 ER – 3 BB – 6 K. 2 HP – 1 WP – 1 HR.
Thanks Dave
WOW, Bitchin, God that feels sooooo good.
The win….
Jason, you shouldn’t have left early. You missed a GREAT game. Then again you might be bad karma for the guys so leave early every game from now on.
I had the pleasure of meeting Wolff tonight.. just let me say… He is a “very nice addition to the team”… LOL.
All Stars? Anyone?
Glad that All Star Lance is back. We needed him back.
Happy 4th.
I listened to the Patriots radio when I was there this past weekend for 2 games. It is weird to listen to a game without Dave.
When I grow up I want to be just like Dave or even Jason. See what a little positive thinking does. What a game. They should of taken these bats on the road trip. They had all the hits in them.
I think even Jason smiled once tonight.
Amy……I am sure you have been to a few Atlantic League All Star games. I have only been to one. The one in Atlantic City two years ago. YOu would have loved it. They started out by letting fans (young and old) get autographs of all of the All Stars. They sat in the dugouts as the fans filed by. You would have been in heaven!!!!
Stormin…I forgot to mention the fan highlight of the night at York Stadium. Bread sticks! Bread sticks! Bread sticks!!. It was hilarious. It was the only time everyone in the stadium cheered as one. The K man went 3-3 though. He had two strikes each time before disappointing the crowd. The promotion is better than the yell loud and act obnoxious for a pizza promotion that the Clip does.
Happy Fourth everyone!!!!!!!!! Celebrate our freedom today!
pack…never been to ANY all star games to tell you the truth.
I hope the Barnstormer front office gets the meet and sign All Star procession together for their All Star game. The North all stars sat in their dugout and the South in theirs. Then for the first 45 minutes fans just went down the row and got each player to autograph what they had brought.
I happened to have a ball that each of the South All Stars had signed and then time ran out on me. But you need at least one ball for each team. My baseball is completely covered.
After that Atl City had the homerun derby which didnt take too long the way they played it. A little warm up and then the ball game. Lance had a big game that night. A HR and a double!! He would have been the MVP if the South would have won.
I enjoyed myself and I thought the casinos as a backdrop for the stadium was a real sight.
Welcome back, Lance. Nice to see that .305 on the board briefly.
Unless they plan to announce something like this in the next few days I am doubting that there will be any autograph thing…although I hope there is and I am compltely wrong on that.
Dear BASA, at Atlantic City, there was a long line of fans getting autographs and a lot of them had to buy new balls to get signed and buy sharpies. (Automatic sales– get it!!!) Ka-ching, Ka-ching!
I know this doesnt matter–but the young fans really enjoyed getting so many autographs.
I wonder if it too late to call Sharpie and see if they would like to sponsor the “Sharpie Autograph Alley” presentation????
No, it cant be too late…because they havent even announced the All Stars yet.
Sorry..should be….I wonder if IS too late…..
Double error…back to the Frontier League with me….
I wonder if IT IS too late to call Sharpie and have them sponsor the Autograph Alley…then it would happen.
Stormin…..after reading Game 57 (the morning after posts).. I can tell you that I said to my wife that I was surprised there was no netting in the outfield to protect the kids area in York’s stadium. Not that too many balls will be hit out there, but it only takes one long fly to hurt a child.
I like the idea of watching a playoff game during standing room only time from center field. Not that York will be in the playoffs any time soon or they will need a SRO area.
The All Stars for the Barnstormers this year are John Wolff and Steve Booker. Nope just kidding. All Stars should be released to the public soon.
Mike Ashmore
I just got caught up on the old blogg… I said that you look different than what I thought.
I was picturing a more of a Mike Golic type, you know, big, a little on the hefty side…. and your soo young. You have a lot of knowledge of the game already. Are you sure you didn’t grow up in Florida?
Olivia.
Finally found time to get to a game and this was a good one – at lease what I saw of it. Missed all my blogging friends though. Sorry I was not able to track down Radical Mom to say hello. Got to game late – 5th inning. Intersting – we win – and there is less than 100 posts.
I heard from a good source that All Star names would be out Thursday (tomorrow).
Last nights game was great. Actually got to get excited. This proves that these guys are competitive. Since they are out of the first half race, they don’t roll over. They come out in give it all they got.
Way to go Stormers.
Hey Rad, I saw you strutting around in your Cleveland jersey last night. Nice to give your daughter the “Has Been” jersey. Just to make you jealous, I had Patterson on in honor of him getting looked over again. One of these days he is going to get his shot.
They now have All Star Replica jerseys in the store. They are $125. If I had a lot of money to burn, I would buy the South’s jersey and put PTBNL on the back since he is my All Star right in vote.
Radical,
I may not have seen you, but I think I sat next to your daughter in Section 16 last night now that Stormin mentioned that she had a jersey on.
In honor of the Fourth, tonight I will be wearing my #45 “Lancaster” jersey… since it is red/white/blue ,
Like every game, I’ll be wandering around. Ultimate, I am usually in 7 at the dugout, 13 near the top or… of course, the bullpen ducking down behind the wall to escape a trip to the ER… almost got hit last night from a nice line drive .
Happy Fourth to all.
I’ll be at the game tonight, but will be working “undercover”. I will not be sitting in the stands or at the most for just a minute or two. If I see you I will use the secret password so you will know it is me and I will not blow my cover – “Brownies”. LOL
Stormin. My kids wanted Scott’s jersey. I gave my son the choice when we won… he really liked Scotts personality and I did too. Hope he comes back to do a George Clooney broadcast. You know… I was the first to put the voice with the actor so I am taking ALL the Credit when Scott makes it big doing voice overs in Hollywood!!!!
They gave # 36 to one of the newbees so it’s not and empty, hollow jersey anymore. Although he doesn’t quite fill it out like Scott did.
Still have washed the Cleveland jersey yet…noticed people were moving away from me last night… Hmmmm wonder Why???
Maybe I should bake today????
Stormin.. this should make you alittle jealous.. Patterson will be at my house.. soon.
It was so nice to see you last night Dad. Now that you and mom are split, I don’t have that quality time anymore with you. Maybe we can continue to meet at the ballgame so that mom never has to know, since she drops me off so she can spend time with her new boyfriend.
See you soon,
MBJ
Ultimate…that is because everyone was at the game!
Rad,
I will be wearing the Red Alternate #29 in honor of his start tonight. It seems like he pitches better in red. One thing. He should wear the red hat (instead of the blue/red) with the red jersey, since they win big in the new red hats.
Just a thought.
Stormin…yeah wasnt rad all cool last night struttin around in that Russ jersey? who does she think she is? (Thanks for getting me the poster and the team set from somerset!)
ultimate…Rad also stops by section 5 to give me a hard time. she really need to watch herself when visiting the bullpen guys….one of these days she’s going to be talking and get winged by one of those foul balls!
Radical….I think I may break out the JT jersey tonight. I wear mine on rare occasions…playoffs, etc…..in honor of his all star pick (? hopefully!!!) Now there is one guy that really needs the entire all Star break to rest….you can tell he is “wore out”! And besides that i need to rub it in to the usher in section 6 that i won the jersey! Haha.
Yes…definitely the red hats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It s fun grilling in the rain….just grilling in the rain!! My apologizes to Gene Kelly
Baking Brownies for the Boys.
Stormin and Jason,
It was great meeting you guys last night! I still can’t believe I blew my cover though
And thanks for not staring at my eye patch. Most people look at me like a freak or call me black beard, but you guys were totally cool. Bet you would of never guessed I was in my 70’s!
Little B,
Sounds like a plan bud. And tell your moms boyfriend that if he ever yells at you again, “Captain Hook” is going to put him in the hospital!
Mr. B. I think you need to go to the 8th floor at LGH.. the looney bin.
How so you guys add little symbols… i notice we have a little spot for them… so please, do tell
PS. Great game yesterday and Welcome back Mark!
Cougar…. Looney bins are for quitters!
As far as adding graphics, I think you need to subscribe to one of the links above. Stormin can get you the specs.
OK, stopped raining. Time to fire up the grill. Happy 4th! What a sweet country we live in!
Thanks “Looney” What ja grillin?
I just noticed on the “Where are they now?” page that Ortiz is now playing in Japan. Is there more mony in Japan vs Mexico?
I was not going to mention anything Mr B about meeting you because I respected your undercover identity. BTW, the eye patch is really not that bad. It is smaller than I imagined. However, you really need to loose the parriot. It was annoying hearing him all the time we were talking saying “BASA Sucks, BASA Sucks”. Does he know anything else?
Stormin… There is a LOT !!! more money in Japan.
Figures?
Ortiz signed a contract for $30 million yen, which is roughly $250,000 in U.S. money.
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW.
See Dad, you can go to Japan and blog for more money. Then mom would take you back.
Any All Stars yet????
C’mon.
Ortiz’s contract–$250,000– for how long?? if that is 10 years, he can almost make that in 10 years with the barnstormers. ha ha ….Is his contract for a year??? If so, great for him
Hey…who had the 100,00hit on the blog. I missed it. I knew I should have quit my job like Mr Barnstormer and followed the blog 24/7.
you missed the cake, balloons, and clown that Jason had rented.
Bosco flew t-shirts to everyone that day and the Clip is having special fireworks tonight in honor of the 100,000 mark
on a related note – we’re about 55 hours removed from the 100,000 hit and we’ve added about 5700 hits.
So the blog is averaging approx 100 hits an hour
Two items …
I assume Ortiz’s contract is prorated for the rest of this season.
All-Stars will be released Thursday.
The Barnstormers are really an OK group if they are doing fireworks tonight for the 100,000 hit…now that is a real in touch with the fans company.
word has it they’re also giving out free dufflebags to the all bloggers on Friday, provided they get there by 6.30.
Radical Stormerfan…
I’m 24, this is my fifth season of covering the league. I’m very fortunate to have started covering professional sports and to have not worked my way up through the high school ranks and so on.
I also weigh around 130 pounds soaking wet, so that whole Mike Golic image…well, I’m probably closer to Mike Greenberg.
Born and raised in NJ.
Not that I wouldn’t want to be Golic. Being next to John Kruk when he proudly fires off the… “My wife says I’m not as disgusting to her as I used to be!” line had to be a glorious moment.
