Game 59: ppd
July 4, 2007 by Jason Guarente
VS SOMERSET PATRIOTS
Sam Marsonek (2-3, 4.85 ERA) vs.
James Lira (3-3, 7.22 ERA)
Happy Fourth of July.
The Barnstormers’ game against Somerset was postponed Wednesday night. It will be made up as part of a doubleheader Thursday at 5:05. Do your rain-go-away dance between now and then.
Pre-game notes:
– Asked John Wolff the obvious question: Why is a Harvard grad playing baseball in the Atlantic League? Wolff, a psychology major, has dreams of becoming a big-league general manager and is using his time as a pro player to make connections. He was also a really good hockey player in college.
– In case you missed it in the comments section, Jose Ortiz has signed with the Chiba Lotte Marines of Japan’s Pacific League. That team is managed by Bobby Valentine and includes McCaskey grad Matt Watson. Ortiz was hitting .400 with 17 homers in 59 games in the Mexican League, so it’s nice to see him get this opportunity.
– All-Stars will be announced Thursday.
Lineups …
SOMERSET (34-24): Danny Garcia, 2B; Elliott Ayala, LF; Teuris Olivares, SS; Mike Lockwood, CF; Josh Pressley, 1B; Alan Zinter, RF; Todd Leathers, DH; Travis Anderson, C; Patrick Boran, 3B.
LANCASTER (25-33): Vince Blue, RF; Danny Gonzalez, SS; Jeremy Todd, 1B; Jutt Hileman, CF; Dominick Ambrosini, LF; Lance Burkhart, DH; Steve Van Note, 3B; Russ Cleveland, C; Mike Woods, 2B.

Happy 4th everybody. Let’s go Stormers.
Wolf should do good as a general manager. A psyc degree should help with players and managers because some are head cases.
Where is everyone at.
Jason, looks like a crowd in front of you. Oh boy we get to see Dave and Jason on the video board again.
Got some time to kill, anybody got 67 bucks and a stopwatch? I’m game.
I’m on my way out.
Raining?
YES!
Man, what happened to the Championship DVD? Jason, did you break the DVD?
You can’t not like that Chiba Lotte Marines logo…
I smell overtime for Jason and Burt but not for that Sonerset dude. By the way Jason, what’s his name, if he does’nt mind you telling.
Brian Bender, Somerset radio voice.
What about the Somerset Paper dude?
Just kidding. They should get OT too.
This game is gone.
Jason, tell us a rain delay story.
Free fireworks, see everyone tomorrow night. Good night and God Bless the USA. Happy birthday.
I’ll beat Jason to the punch…
Stevens vs. Marsonek Game One
Lira vs. Van Hekken Game Two
Stevens vs. Marsonek Game One tomorrow.
Lira vs. Van Hekken Game Two
Wow Dave, way to go. Thanks.
The two & 1/2 hours at the ball park tonight definitely sucked.
what is with the match ups…..i thought Somerset would want to put their best against our best
This way we can win both…
Stevens vs. Van Hekken didn’t entirely work out for y’all last time, soooo…
OK. Boys, just because you are out early tonight doesn’t mean you get to drink extra… two games tomorrow means an extra long night at the Clipp and we need to see some really good ball… like last night.
Frank switched the order of the pitchers because Lira had started to warm up tonight. He did the same with Andrews on our last rainout.
Why does radar lie?
You and your team are going down, Mike.
Why do radars lie? It’s the baseball gods. They hate us.
O’Doyle rules?
There’s something fishy about Wolff, but I can’t put my finger on it. It doesn’t all add up.
York Stadium Update: Drove by AGAIN today and they are putting glass in the front entrance windows and it looks like they are starting to put the glass & sliding doors on the skyboxes.
I like Wolfie. He is signing autographs and hangin with the fans on the dugout/bullpen stretch of walkway.
What should we call that… how about the Green Mile?
I agree Cougar, he is really enjoying the whole atmosphere at the Clipp.
Ha Ha Rad.
He is just taking it ALL in.
CLUE: Google Moe Berg….
PS. I like him too.
Wolff….

Cool, Moe Berg a catcher and a SPY.. so should we be watching out for Wolffie????
So Mr B, are we looking at a upcoming bombing raid from BASA? Take out all blogers. Code name BLOGOUT.
WE WANT ALL STAR PICKS!
I like that John “the brainiest guy in baseball” Wolff. The degree gives him away. I am amazed Mr B at you knowledge of shady people.
I think Wolf is playing for the good guys.
WE WANT ALL STAR PICKS!!!!
WE WANT ALL STAR PICKS!!!!!
Yeah, We Want The All Star Line-up!!!
Mr. Barnstormer:
Sometimes people are what they seem, although that was very interesing about the spy who was a baseball player! As some of the others have said, I too think this guy really is the nice guy that he appears to be. I think Wolff will get a good laugh out of the blog posts. I’m sure the players get a kick out of reading our posts. Hey perhaps more than one of us is actually a player and not just a fan. You never know!
Thanks Ultimate,
I do hope that the players and fellow bloggers know that my intentions are always in the name of fun. I sometimes have to remind myself though that humans are sensitive beings and with that only post 10% of what I really would like to say. But I have excepted the fact that each day when I close my eyes… the circus music ringing in my head will play on.
GO STORMERS!
I truely believe that Wolff is here for the reasons he stated. It’s just fun to joke around with something like this. It makes the day go by faster.
Go Stomers, Go Wolff
