The Barnstormers have put seven players on the South Division team for next week’s All-Star Game.
They include: pitchers Josh Stevens and Derrick DePriest, catcher Lance Burkhart, first baseman Jeremy Todd, shortstop Danny Gonzalez and outfielders Jutt Hileman and Dominick Ambrosini.
Stevens, who is 6-2 with a 2.92 ERA, is the odds-on favorite to be the starting pitcher. The righthander leads the league in ERA and will be playing in front of his home crowd. Todd, Gonzalez and Hileman were voted in as starters. So was Quincy Foster, who is unavailable to play because he’s in the Mexican League.
Here’s a look, by the numbers:
DePriest: 0-1 … 1.26 ERA … 5 saves
Burkhart: .296 … 5 HR … 18 RBIs
Todd: .283 … 14 HR … 41 RBIs
Gonzalez: .286 …12 HR … 36 RBIs
Hileman: .272 … 10 HR … 41 RBIs
Ambrosini: .319 … 6 HR … 26 RBIs
All are clearly deserving. If you wanted to make a case for someone who didn’t get selected, it would probably be starter Gustavo Martinez, who is seventh in the league in ERA at 3.58.

Thanks Jason.
Way to make it happen dude!
It’s about time !!!! Congratulations to all the “boys” on the All Star team.
Congratulations to all the them!!!!
Note: I guess the big boys from Long Island did not have to come. Sure makes Long Island look bad.
Also, I really like the South in this game.
Awesome for us. Love how the Long Island guys are all snubbing this one. (Well most of them anyway)
We should do something that we did in high school football when the other team platers were being announced. We held up newspapers to show that we could care less.
We should hold up Lancaster New Era Sports Section when LI comes to town and there “Not So Big Names” are introduced. What do you think?
Sorry, “players”, not “platers”.
Thats funny Stormin…this is just another example of how Long Island really runs this league. Those guys are all ex major leaguers who just can’t be bothered to show up for this game. and that further boosters my point that having all those ex major leaguers on the team does nothing for the “team:. Those guys are strictly there for themselves and to better their own position. They are not in this league to play as a team. I am really surprised that any of them are showing up….John Halama must have drawn the short straw! They probably threw all the guys names in a hat…Rose, Alfonzo, Offerman, Everett, Graves and Halama and picked one…..that person had to show up. along with Grezlovski. It really cheapens the entire game.
If I recall, each of the last two years we had guys voted on to the AS team who said – no thanks, I’ll take the days off instead
Last season only two of the Barnstormers’ six selections went to the game. It’s not that unusual.
Yeah, it’s pretty pathetic that LI could give a $h*t about the allstar game. It’s pretty much a kick in the groin to the league.
Oh, never mind my last comment. Jasons prior comment kind of made mine invalid.
So I guess it is really not an “ALL STAR” game. It’s more a “Thanks For The Vote But I Am Too Busy or Need A Break So Take The Next Guy” game.
Now I am bummed.
I am not saying that its unusual to turn down an all star invite. Its just the fact that all of them are “big name ex major leaguers” ….and all are from Long Island. In my opinion …when i voted I didnt expect them to be there anyway. Believe me I know how the all star voting is really not that valid anyway!
And knowing that they wouldnt show up anyway i didnt vote for the Long island guys even if they did deserve to be there.
I like your way of thinking Amy! I want you on my campaign team when I run for Mayor of Lititz!
SLOGAN: “Sure he doesn’t deserve it, but hey, the other guy looks funny!”
Well there was no way in heck that those guys were going to show up.
Oop…first because they are long Island ducks and second because they are ” too good” for that.
how is it any different from the MLB game, where some guys decide to not go, for a variety of reasons – some more legit than others.
Like it or not, big leaguers are good for this league. They generate interest in places that ordinarily wouldn’t give a first glance to indy ball. If those guys don’t want to come to the All-Star Game, that’s their choice. I don’t think it’s a big deal. Do you really need Edgardo Alfonzo here to enjoy this event?
Nope. I am here to see baseball.
Me either. As always I am here to enjoy another baseball game. I really DON”T need them here to enjoy this event Jason..and if you think that i do…well then you really don’t understand me at all. I am also NOT saying anything negative towards ex big leaguers in this league or any other indy league because they do generate interest in the league. Sure its their choice. I could really care less if Alfonzo and Offerman and any of those guys are here….its better that the guys who really want to be here…are here. I wouldnt care if it was all road Warriors or whomever. My original point was that they are all Long Island Ducks snubbing the event. thats it.
Just an update on one of our favorites. Charlie Weatherby had another strong outing on Tuesday night …..

Seriously Jason, why are you always picking on Amy
Probably because he hasnt met me.
Doesn’t matter to me that the Li boys aren’t coming. Really I didn’t vote a one of them..example at 2nd I voted for Javier Colina who’s having a bangup year.Best stats in the league at 2nd in my book. How he wasn’t voted the starter stuns me.None of the Li boys lead the north statistically at their position except Rose I think. check out Vic Rodriguez stats at 1st also. I feel Long Island stuffed the ballot box like Cincinnati did in the late 50’s and had a starter at all 8 fielding positions if I recall correctly ..anyhow they then took the ballot away from the fans for a long time.
For awhile in the 60’s they even played 2 all-star games HeHe.
I did not see Burkhart on the roster other than in your announcement. Lance Burkhart was voted as a stater? And will be present?
Lance is starting…whether he was voted it I don’t know.
I assume the league pays the players travel expenses for this event. Can they rent a car or do they go Greyhound.
HeHe…get Amy to ask our players..at least one that played in the past tonight..hopefully we get these games in. I wonder if we shouldn’t have played a split double header today..would have gotten at least 1 game in today. They’re forecasting Rain.
Surprised me that York even played a split DH a week or two ago.
If we are rained out tonight …..
1) Fireworks on Friday night?
2) Will we have to play on Monday since this may affect the 1st half results?
I would think so…Camden has played a game or 2 more than Somerset as it is Cuz of last night.
The fireworks were held last night. I am not sure about the game.
I just went and looked they have played the same number of games. Last night made them equal again. So my last post was wrong.
They had fireworks at Clipper Stadium last night?
I checked Somerset and Camden’s schedule. If we get these 2 games in tonight The Pats will have played 63 games if they get the 3 Fri. thru Sun. in but Camden has only 1 game scheduled for tonight..Fri. Sat. and Sun. that’d make 62. So if we don’t get 1 or both of these games in…looks like Camden playing someone Mon. and us playing 2 here with the Pats. Gee…rain ..rain go away.
Camden plays at Bridgeport on Monday to finish the first half.
I was just sent a thunderstorm warning with Hail ..size of a pea..for Mountville heading East with 60 mile an hour winds.
Thanks Jason.
Remember last years makeup game right before the break. A lot players, even Herr had plans and was a very small player pool.
Yeah..but Burkhart had a sensational game playing 2nd and I remember Somerset was pee’d that we only had a skeleton crew..even harriger left for the Pittsburg area. Anyhow we won that game hehe.
Is it still raining in Lancaster?
Pitchfork…what do you mean get Amy to ask our players? Not sure what you are telling me to ask them.
Oh and what’s the problem with me talking to the players?
Way to go to the guys in the Stormers for makin the All-Star.
You know, I truly dont want to see the ex-Major Leaguers. They dont seem to play in the regular games, so who needs them in the All Star game. I would much rather see someone like Jutt Hileman who has worked his way up to get there.
And I am sure you all agree. A good baseball game includes the guys who want to be on the field and want to be there for themselves as well as the fans.
I want to add my congratulations to the Barnstormers who made the All Star game. I thought all 7 (8 counting Foster) deserved to be there. Great job. Keep the momentum going in the second half and you can still preserve the defense of your title.
Who cares if it is raining, GO BARNSTORMERS!!!!!!
Congratulation to all the Barnstormers who made the All-Star Team.
I would like to have seen one more selection. Eric Ackerman.
He means so much to the Barnstormers.
Rick Wise told me the when he was asked to pitch he would always take the ball.
He is a real dedicated player.
The Southern Division All-Stars still look good.
GO BARNSTORMERS!
I second the motion to have had Eric on the All Star team. As a Pitt grad, I have always rooted extra hard for Eric. He would have been a worthy pick.
I third Eric. Him and Ross have been a big assets to the team. I think Eric’s 3.44 ERA is great based on the fact that he has been overly used, especially at the beginning of the season.
What is interesting is that we now have two psychology major graduates on the team, Eric and John Wolff. Should make for some interesting clubhouse conversation.
I told him to ask you to ask the players if they got travel expenses(the ones that played in the past) for playing in the All-Star game that’s all.
I just heard tonight that Steve Van Note has been added to the All Star game.
