AT BRIDGEPORT BLUEFISH
Manny Ulloa (6-6, 4.02 ERA) vs.
Barry Armitage (3-1, 4.82 ERA)
The Barnstormers try to salvage a split of this four-game series tonight. Armitage is making just his third start since 2002. The righthander is thrust into emergency duty because Lancaster is playing its seventh game in five days. Ulloa, meanwhile, is one of those BASA pawns. The righthander was an All-Star with the Road Warrirors before getting claimed by York and traded to Bridgeport.
Pre-game notes:
– AtlanticLeagueBaseball.com
reports that former Atlantic City Surf stars Lincoln Mikkelsen and Raul Marval are returning to the league. Check the link to see where. Mikkelsen and Marval were teammates with Grosseto of the Italian League this summer. Mikkelsen, last year’s pitcher and player of the year for the Surf, went 7-4 with a 2.01 ERA in 14 starts for Grosseto.
– Armitage is 2-1 with a 5.04 ERA since joining the Barnstormers in a trade with Newark in June. He hasn’t pitched since Aug. 17.
– Ulloa has made one start against the Barnstormers. On July 7, he went six innings, allowing three runs and striking out nine. This is the first time in seven games Lancaster has faced a right-handed starter.
– The Barnstormers have fallen back into last place. They are one percentage point behind Camden. Both teams trail first-place Somerset by five games.
TAYLOR TO DUCKS?:
Head of baseball operations Adam Gladstone was surprised to learn that the Long Island Ducks announced Reggie Taylor signed with them.
“The last conversation I had with Reggie was Wednesday and he asked me to reserve a hotel room for him Saturday (in Lancaster),” Gladstone said.
Based on my understanding, there is a gentleman’s agreement between teams that they don’t pursue players who played for rival Atlantic League teams the previous season. The Ducks apparently ignored this agreement, signed Taylor anyway and didn’t discuss it with the Barnstormers before announcing it.
This could only be construed as a slap in the face by Long Island, especially considering that Lancaster had a verbal agreement with Taylor.
FINAL: Bluefish 8, Barnstormers 5
RECORD: 18-22 (47-56)
SOME HIGHLIGHTS: The Barnstormers held a 5-1 lead after three innings before Bridgeport scored seven unanswered runs. Lancaster didn’t offer much resistance at the end. Its final 16 batters – and 21 of the final 22 – were retired in order.
*Dominick Ambrosini belted two homers and drove in all five of Lancaster’s runs. The left fielder’s magical ride continues. Ambrosini has 19 homers and 62 RBIs in 80 games. It might be the best season for a hitter in the team’s three-year history.
*Danny Gonzalez didn’t play because of illness. Felix Martinez was out with a sore knee. Travis Hake played shortstop for the first time since June 13, 2005.
*Barry Armitage, making just his third start since 2002, turned in a solid effort. He went 4 2/3 innings and allowed three runs – leaving the game with Lancaster in front 5-3.
*James Lira was pressed into emergency relief duty – allowing five runs in 1 1/3 innings. He surrendered a three-run homer to Johnny Hernandez that gave Bridgeport a 6-5 lead in the sixth. Lira was pitching on two days rest after starting on Wednesday.
*The Barnstormers are 2-5 on this road trip. They’re banged up, their pitching is worn out and their playoff hopes are pretty much shot. Lancaster has a late-night ride home from Bridgeport before starting a three-game series at York Sunday at 2 p.m. In other words, it doesn’t get any easier.

Let’s see, Mike says next week we are really going to see teams make their playoff pushes regarding player personnel moves. This 3 game series with York has the significance of a playoff series. I hope the Barnstormers are still in the playoff chase by the end of next week.
Tonight should be interesting. Travis is playing shortstop. Danny is sick, and Felix has a mild knee sprain. Sometimes, these are the games that teams can pop up and win, overcoming all obstacles.
Tom Cruise is starting tonight… time for a little Top Gun action. Come on Barry you can do it. Danny is sick? a knee sprain for Felix.. yikes.. time for the boys to pull up the boot straps and dig deep.
We’re here for you Stormers so get out there and WIN !!!!!
Mikes now reporting Reggie to Long Island. OK. Can the Barnstormers get Alfonzo in return?
What is up with the Reggie thing. We couldn’t have given up his rights completely. Make LI give up their RH hitting 3rd baseman.
On 2nd thought screw Alfonzo take Everett from the bastards.
Thats $#@! ridiculous. This is even better than MY theory! Somehow we knew something like this was coming… he never showed up here but has been spotted in town? Let’s see someone, anyone really..explain their way around this.
Yep…I just checked the Long Island roster on their website and Taylor IS listed on it.
And is featured on the home page as well. Looks like Frank boulton gets what he wants….
WOW… that su*ks
Apparently Reggie was just waiting for a better offer…I wonder if we end up with any of those 7 or so outfielders on the Long Island roster.? Should be an interesting homestand when Long Island comes in…..
thats putting it mildly Rad…we have officially been SCREWED> thanks Reggie…i knew there was a reason why I didnt want you back here.
You’re right Amy. I can’t wait for the rest of the story. I think everyone should stay away from the ballpark Wednesday night until the 3rd inning.
Yeah there will likely be some interesting “spin doctoring” coming out of the front office on this one. Nah..no reason to stay away from the ballpark for this one….personally i would like to hear something from ODP or BASA or the front office or the GM or someone about this. I guess Reggie feels he fits in better with the Long Island thugs.. I mean the other ex major leaguers. No reason to penalize the guys who are out on the field playing their guts out….they still deserve our support. this has nothing to do with them.
Good luck tonight guys!!!! I know we can pull a win out!!!!
I agree about our players, but unless something different comes out, my belief is ownership here sold his rights and really doesn’t care how this season plays put.
I would love to have the exact reason why. The ODP and the BASA owe us an explaination.
As for the Stormers… Love’em, not leavin’em EVER!
The Barnstormers can’t prevent Taylor from going to Long Island. If that’s what he wants, that’s his choice. Am I surprised by this? Nope. Sums up the baseball operations for the entire season. Nothing has gone right.
Amen to that Jason….
So, I guess it was Reggies’ choice?
More likely LI offered him more money, so it would be Reggie’s choice but BASA probably lost him for us. Little League World series is better. Good luck Travis!
I added a note above about Taylor.
Adam better call that hotel, he will lose his deposit.
Just remember that Long Island is coming in on Wednesday.
…And Taylor is scheduled to play his first game when that happens.
Gee, how would the team communicate with their fans if Jason wasn’t around.
Taylor wasn’t the answer for us anyhow…we never got anyone to replace Ortiz..the most glaring weakness..another right handed power hitter also Ortiz had a good batting average too. We need pitching help badly and ODP(basa) gets us none..while picking up Linc Mikelson for Camden.
In the grand scheme of things, it’s not a big deal. Lancaster probably isn’t making the playoffs. Long Island will. There are only 24 games left. But the way it all unfolded makes everyone involved look terrible, especially Boulton — the league founder — and his win-at-all-costs franchise.
So it’s official….F&^% Reggie Taylor.
I realllllly HATE L.I. now ! … and I don’t use that word often.
I was practicing my boo’s but we don’t play them again, darn!
Yea, I hear ya Pitchfork, Reggie’s left handed and we got too many of those, he’s an outfielder and we got too many of those. But you know what. He was in the top 5 in about every offensive category last year. And there weren’t very many of those.
As I told Mark earlier I made them give me a full refund for my season tickets this year so I’ve only gone to 5 games. If there isn’t a new owner or some kind of breakup of ODP plus some rule changes for the League I intend to go to none. This league is a farce..and our owners.
Exactly Jason….Boulton gets what he wants because he founded this league and owns the Ducks as well. win at all costs…including pretty much forcing Taylor to accept an offer to his team. We didnt need Taylor..I have been saying this for awhile….we need pitching…BASA left us for dead pretty much the whole season so its not all that surprising they let us flounder around now. It makes Reggie look bad for backing out of a verbal agreement to us as well. But this is what Boulton wanted…Reggie…and he got it….just as he always does.
M&B..I feel pitching is our biggest need..plus starting to hit with men on Base. I wish they kept stats on that for the year so we knew how bad ti really is.
it ..hehe
I disagree with you Amy, Reggie could not be forced to do anything he did not want to do.
Well, every team needs Taylor. He’s one of the best players in the league. He would have made the Barnstormers significantly better and he’s a huge reason they won the championship. Lancaster has a losing record because it doesn’t have enough players like Taylor.
At this point it doesn’t matter in the standings because the Barnstormers are so far out of it. The only repercussions involve Long Island’s blatant disregard for a rival franchise.
LOL…now that I think about it, didn’t I call this move by posting “besides, LI has just lost one of it’s better hitters”. No, we didn’t need Taylor, but it certainly is the last straw with this two-bit league. I can’t wait until the bums show up in Lancaster next week. It’ll be a challenge to see how rude, obnoxious and loud I can be without actually being arrested. Or at least being able to talk my way out of it.
I should have said Hitting with men in scoring position.
Is anyone really suprised? How can another team steal a player who’s signed with a team? or was he not signed?
i bet taylor will be met with boo’s, it is like a slap in the face.
Pitchfork thet do keep stats on that and the Barnstormers are the worst in the league in hitting with men in scoring position. Jason was kind enuff to provide the link to the Howe data base. Click on Barnstormers statistics, then click on team situational statistics, and you’ll get the stats. If you want any other professional team go to howesportsdata.com, ignore their message its moved and scoll down to baseball.
Be back in a while. Got to get those powerball tickets.

He wasn’t signed but had a verbal agreement to return to Lancaster… right ?
Mark, want to walk the green mile together Wednesday?
Well, either way… the team thought he was a sure go to play for Lancaster. Not that they need him…. The team needs to start playing as a team and stop blaming it on management etc. They are getting the short end of the stick, but atleast they still have a stick.
I thought it was posted yesterday that he signed on July 27th or something like that.
WE do play LI at home …at the end of this week…. Hummm.. we should make up some Reggie Taylor face’s and hold them up during the series… Ha Ha
Make some posters as if ESPN was going to be there…. (if that’s even allowed). Support the real players…
A number of the guys have great stats, and haven’t been picked up. Why?
Taylor reached a verbal agreement. During the season, players don’t sign contracts until they actually arrive with their new team.
That’s why I kept thinking Taylor wasn’t going to show…nowhere did I see anything beyond an oral agreement which any used car dealer (like Taylor) will tell you isn’t worth anything at all.
Per the green mile…not if it’s as hot as it was today! But yeah, may as well. The season ended a couple days ago when Lancaster failed to win the double-header. This is just the last nail in the coffin and I figure go out with a bang.
I’d love to be there for Taylor’s return. Lancaster fans — and this blog fully supports this theory — care the most about the on-field product among Atlantic League fans.
Taylor will actually get a legitimate reaction because people actually know who he is and how important he was last year, and not the typical indifference you might elsewhere if a similar situation had occured.
* might see
This hurts. Time to throw away my Reggie Taylor game used hat from last year perhaps.
Needless to say, the Reggie Taylor picture is coming off my site.
Come on out Mike.. we need to met and greet you… might be the only highlight in our week
Crap, the game started already
Oh my God.. two runs already… Come On Boys.. come On Tom Cruise !!!!
What are their chances of getting another pitcher this late in the season??
Sorry about misleading everyone to believing Reggie had actually signed here on July 27…. you are correct..he had a verbal agreement. What I mostly meant by that post was that he took so long to get here. and there was basically no indication when he was going to be here. (Up until last night when Dave said he would be here with us in York on S thats wrong.unday.
Maureen I dont understand what you mean by post 36. I am not saying Reggie was forced to do anything in this case. Or that he could be forced to do anything he did not want to do. Apparently he wanted to go there more than come here where he had a verbal agreement. Boulton;s integrity is in question as Dave mentioned at the top of the broadcast. He went after Reggie in some form…and thats clearly wrong. Its disturbing and its wrong.
The Barnstormers put out a release that he’d signed, but even with that said, I don’t think the fans should feel misled by the team or by anyone here. It isn’t Lancaster’s fault that him signing with the Ducks was the end result.
I know there will be a lot of blame laid on the Ducks here, but keep in mind, Reggie Taylor could have said no to whatever it was he ended up getting offered.
Way to go dominick!!!! way to start the game, keep it up guys!!!
I wonder if he’s getting what Offerman got.
hey guy’s,ummmmmmmmm, what can i say,as a Duck fan, I hate when they pull this stuff. It makes the league appear to pro Duck{Which I guess it is} What really grinds my gears is they have enough talent already to win a championship, but they alway’s have to fool around with their roster. Is Bill Pulsipher far behind?
Anyway, you guy’s got Ambrosini, they way he is playing, would rather have him back home on L.I.
Hi Chuckerd58…. we’ll try real hard not to hold it against you
We’re all just really pi$$ed about Reggie going to LI, would love to know the $$ he’s getting paid.
Thanks Rad.
Lots of mistakes were made.
1. The Barnstormers shouldn’t have announced that Taylor was returning on July 27. He still had two weeks in Mexico as it turned out and he’s a notoriously unpredictable guy. They announced it because the team was losing and they wanted to show they were trying to improve the roster — which they were.
2. The Ducks shouldn’t have signed Taylor or even approached him. There should be some level of trust between the teams, especially in this league — where ODP owns three of them. I’ve got news for the Ducks. They NEED ODP. Without that ownership group, Long Island would be playing intrasquad games in five years.
3. Barnstormers fans shouldn’t be upset about Taylor specifically. They should be upset because the Taylor situation is emblematic of the baseball operations as a whole. The team has been run poorly. It’s indisputable.
Not upset with Reggie specifically..other than the fact that apparently giving ones word means nothing with a couple extra dollars i guess. But yes I agree with your other points. Barnstormers announced that move as a pr thing… pure and simple.
According to league rules, Long Island can’t pay Taylor more than $3,000 a month. I’m sure that’s what the Barnstormers offered him or he wouldn’t have agreed to come here. Of course, LI can offer other perks to entice players.
I especially like the term.. “used car dealer”. That hit the nail on the head !
chuckered….you dont think the league is Ducks biased? Boulton founded the league and owns the ducks…and thats not biased in some way? haha. At least you can admit that there is SOME pro Duck bias..haha. This kind of stuff is really odd considering they do have the talent to win.
Bakin brownies for York tomorrw… I will be there is the weather is much cooler, which its supposed to be
One guy who lost out on this deal is Norm Hutchins, who is hitting over .300. Taylor is going to take Hutchins’ starting job.
That’s what im saying Amy,the Ducks do have the talent without Taylor to win the league, but they also have to tick everyone off.
That’s right,a guy like Norm Hutchins get’s pushed aside for a bigger name, that does wonders for a clubhouse.
It’s a New Yorker thing… attitude
yikes.
And the funny thing is,the Ducks will get more reactions here than they will on L.I. Newsday won’t have anything on this story. LOL,maybe Bolton thinks the whole league is clueless because nothing is ever said at home.
That’s the worst part. The Ducks insulted the Barnstormers and their fans and it wasn’t even necessary. Long Island already has the best team and no one there will turn cartwheels over Taylor. They get players like him all the time.
What portion of the gate goes to the players at L.I.?
My guess is that BASA said…hey, the barnstormers are not going to win the 2nd half. So, why add more payroll????
We will let Long Island sign Reggie. And we will pretend to know NOTHING ABOUT IT.
I wouldn’t say an arrogant New York thing, believe me Long Island, especially Suffolk County is nothing like what you think of the typical New Yorkers.
Love that Dom… #24 is the best !!!!!
Give Dom a bonus with the $$ reggie would have gotten HAH!!
Good one Rad! Just disperse the $$ amongs all the players.
We’re limping, but we came to play!
Boulton doesnt care what is said here. Why would he??????
You said it Dave. Brownies for the pressbox tomorrow?
Yeah Jason right. Reggies just a little fish up there.
The Barnstormers are gamers at least. I dont think the Long Island has that team attitude. Why should they –they are all ex Major Leaguers.
Your right packmule,he would just sit around with his phony smile and faux importance.
Meaning Boulton packmule.
Pack…Boulton doesnt even care what his own fans think!
\
Rad…how about brownies for the bloggers? haha.
The Barnstormer –we signed Reggie Taylor article is still in the news archives. We will see how long that lasts.
Yes, Yes Yes… Dom again ?
Hah… that’s going to be a lot of brownies!! Great job Dom!!!
GO DOM>>>>>> Who needs Reggie Traitor.
You got it AA
aa…#95..you are right..again
chukered…and what about that faux HAIR of boultons?? hahahaha.
I have to disagree with you packmule about the Ducks not having that team “attitude” They do play hard and are fun to watch, whatever you may feel about the orginization, the team on the field is good and fun to watch.
Dom is just on a roll!!!! Way to go!!!! He is RED HOT!!!!
Dom is a hell of a lot cuter than Reggie … anyday !!!!
YES HE IS!!!! REGGIE WHO???
Love #99.!! (Oh and #100 Rad….yummy!)
maybe instead of booing a pack of people who obviously don’t care about what we think we should chant “we want Norm!”. give that slap in the face right back.
If Long Island did screw us, what do you say we send Dom and our best pitcher to Newark for the last week of the year AND the playoffs?? Call it a loan or payback–whatever you like
Re number 101 pack…been around this game allllooooooonnng time….know more aboutit that you can imagine.
who do we consider our best pitcher pack? I would never agree to sending Derrick to NewarK..lol!
It is funny how on the L I website there is no talk of Reggie Traitor ever playing for the Barnstormers, let alone being verbally signed by Lancaster.
No talk of the Atlantic League in Reggie’s past. Maybe it is a different Reggie Traitor. ha ha
Contracts are only 1 year anyway. I am sure whoever we loaned would want to come back next year. They could play in the playoffs and screw Long Island at the same time.
Come on packmule, you really think their going to put anything that is negative on the website.
Newark might not need any pitchers if any of their guys that left come back for the playoffs like Bowers did last year.
Chuckerd, I know. Just listing it to show Boulton we noticed.
That’s cool packmule. I wonder if Boulton truly understands what’s going on and how hated he is around the league.
Amy…Parker seems to be our best starter these days. Derrick is our best closer. But Ross and Eric have been great as set up men.
Any of you guys want to see some playoff action?????
I love the Reggie “Traitor”
Dave, It’s about to storm here Willow Street, hope it passes before the bus trip home tonight .
Sung in your best Pink Floyd impression (Another Brick In The Wall)
“We don’t need no Reggie Taylors. We don’t need no BASA control. Gladstone, leave us ‘Stormers alone!”
I just couldn’t resist it!
Reggie will get his fair Lancaster welcome when he is introduced next week. Don’t no one worry about that, fer shure!
I’m somewhat disappointed, but not surprised one bit. He was sending us a message by his “no show” in Lancaster last weekend.
We have a great team and the best fans in the AL. We will survive this let down, too.
Go ‘Stormers!
C’mon boyz!
Anyone warming up in the bullpen??
I got ripped by a couple of people on here when I first started posting on here. I made a statement that I liked affiliated ball better than indy ball (Even though I would follow the barnstormers) because of some of the crap that goes on in indy ball. Well, it is stuff like this Taylor mess that make we like affiliated ball much more. I really wish the Barnstormers were not part of the league but we are stuck with it. This league lost all respect (the little I did have) in my eyes. The LI Ducks gets what ever they want and they don’t have to play by the same rules. Offerman problem is a wait and see because he is a Duck. If he was on any other team in this league, we would never see him in this league again and that would have been stated the night it happen. BASA/ODP is in bed with AL and has made a mess of this league also. I know people are saying this is a Reggie Taylor choice but I really think BASA has a big say in this. Like I said 100 times before, I will follow the Barnstormers because they are my home town team. I just going to have a hard time wasting my money on baseball version of WWE. I think I will stay home from now on and listen on the radio.
Each team has some great fans of their own but as a whole there is no better fans than us Barnstormers fan and it is a shame how this league is run. The fans deserve better!!!
BTW: This is my only post about this Taylor mess because I am not going to lose sleep about him not coming. I just hate how this league is run. That gets to me more than Taylor going to the Ducks.
I like the song……will you be changing the name of the song? You could rhyme the brick with a different word.
No, we need a storm-related traffic jam that keeps us from getting home until about 5:00 am. That would just cap this trip. (lol)
I agree that the Barnstormers could have prevented, or at least made a stink, about Traitor going to the Ducks.
Dave…you best not joke about stuff like that..haha.
save trip home guys and i will see ya on wed.night. hope the stormers pull the game out, i am signing off due to a storm comin.
Ahh that’s why we have two surge protectors on this baby…. we never get off line.
Sorry about the break. I think lightning may have popped something on the back end. I am trying to relink.
heard a lot of verbige ( is that a word?) .
There is a lot of electricity in the atmosphere.. kinda cool sitting inside watching.
Where the heck is Stormin.. on a date with the little wifie?
What’s the score??
Lira?? Yes.. nice job “son” …
Come on Dave.. blog and chat.. I’ll teach ya
I’m just getting commercials over sportsjuice… can someone update me on what’s goin on with the game??
Rad….you getting this storm? and yeah where in the world is Stormin….I can believe he’s not around tonight….some fan huh?
Game is on 1490 if you are local. Barnstormers up 5 to 3.
Not local…. in NC. Thanks!
5-3 Lancaster, bottom six. Lightning hit the station and knocked out my primary feed. The backup goes out over the air but, for some reason, does not feed sportsjuice.
Ouch. Bridgeport now up 6 to 5.
come on guys. you can do it.
The perfect storm !!! kinds scary out !!
Hey Stormin…where have you been? We need some positveity!
The Lancaster County Fire & EMS web page is flying… lots of lightning strikes, hazards on the road.. wires and trees are down all over… WOW this is amazing
Hey C.J. Storm wiped out a lot up here.. lots of nasty stuff
Looks like lightning struck near the Willow Street fire station
Thanks Rad!!
Gladstone was surprised? Seriously? Was he high?
C.or a K ???
Yeah Mark….I wondered about his “surprise” as well. Apparently Gladstone is clearly out of touch these days….
Dookie ?? cute
That’s a nasty looking cell that just passed through. Heading my way, too. Good. Happy about that.
I’m in Trenton right now. That’s where I wanna be stuck in a s–tstorm. Patterson has a 0.91 ERA.
Not at all to defend BASA, by the way, but Taylor led them to believe that he was going to Lancaster.
I know people aren’t big BASA fans here, and I despise the way that one organization runs four teams in an eight-team league, but they took Taylor for his word.
In that sense, it’s hard to fault them, but it certainly is a bit of a microcosm on how things have gone this season over there.
I mentioned Patty’s ERA this A.M.
Dam that boy is good
Mike, do you get to talk to him after the game?
Dookie, the Tom Cruise pic. is in honor of Barry Starting tonight.
Thanks Rad! Can you keep the score/plays coming??
Before or after, but outside of the occasional chat about the Atlantic League, I generally don’t.
I did a not so good feature on him, and we sat down for about ten minutes maybe two months ago, but he isn’t really one of my “go to guys” so to speak.
Tonight is rough, because Paul Lo Duca is here with Binghamton on a rehab assignment, so my focus is kind of there instead of where it should be…
since sportsjuice is down, i am watching nascar with the wife.
Thank you, Dave.
The York site shows no seats available for tomorrow’s game, which sounds kind of implausible, and I can’t understand the phone message. Anyone know when their box office opens tomorrow.
This isn’t BASA’s fault. Although I haven’t talked to Taylor yet (I’ve tried), my guess is he changed his mind because the Barnstormers are in last place and Long Island is in first. That’s only speculation on my part.
Score ????
Reggie told Glenn and Eric he would see us on Sunday. Notice how the release came out on Saturday?!
So he was just off by 4 days, he will see them all Wednesday.
Wow, that was one hell of a storm. Turn off the computer just in time.
I know that the chance BASA had anything to do with this is slim and none but I also don’t trust BASA. I could see them say one thing and then do something else. Not going to say that happen in this case but you can’t help but wonder if they had anything to do with this also because of their history.
Eric came on in the 7th with runners on 1st and 3rd and no outs. (Not sure who he came in to replace) The score was 7-5…we were losing. He got a K, then a ground-out, but run scored, then another K. Top of 8th, we went down 1,2,3. Bottom of 8th, DePriest came in and gave up a single, then a sac bunt, picked a guy off, then got a K. Top of 9th, we have 2 outs, no one on.
Jason,
On Monday will your special section of the New Era be called Barnstormers Weakly????
Without Dom, it would have been a shutout.
Final 8-5 Bluefish
Burkhart struck out….game over….we lose 8-5.
Hope it isn’t a late game in Bridgeport since the game Sunday is a day game. Maybe Rad can spike those brownies extra strong.
Rad: Maybe you need to spike those brownies with coffee tomorrow. Going from a night game in Bridgeport to a day game in York may prove rough for Barnstormers.
mark, sunday is faith day at york with a post game concert with newsong. it might be sold out. i have my 4 tickets behind the barnstormer bullpen.
How are the lawn seats in York?
Weird. Post 171 did not appear on my computer right away so I posted a second post and now both show up.
That happens sometimes Ultimate. Gettin the brownies in right now.. has to wait incast the power went out.
Lawn seats in York? back by the cannon?
not really lawn. either dirt or wood chips. it is in right center.
Yep///last week it was wood chips!
Well, at least the temperature has dropped about 25 degrees. Time go to watch the Nats. Screw you Reggie Taylor, screw you Long Island Ducks.
Pete Hartmann is starting for York tomorrow? Another addition for the Revs. Good grief. This debacle of a season never ends. Maybe the Barnstormers should play with seven guys in the field to help York out.
Does anyone know who is pitching tomorrow?
Yep, the cannon. But if they don’t hit any homers, you only hear it at the beginning of the game.
Sorry, forgot to log in to WordPress.
Jason, just when I thought there was light at the end of the tunnel, I find it’s a train coming right for us. I think the name on the train is BASA. Ever hear of that railroad?
Stormin’:
You never fail to mail me laugh!
Josh for us
i try to do my part. we need to beat york these 3 games. i will not be able to face the york staff if they win. i will be there for all 3 games.
it is a sad day in barnstormer baseball. i feel for these guys right now. they are giving it their best. no one wants to go out there and loose. it just seems the deck has been stacked against them from day 1.
go stormers, sweep york.
I will bring brownies to the lovely trailers tomorrow.
Oh, can’t forget the cow-bell either,
hmmm what to wear?
A Patterson jersey # 33, a # 29 Lira jersey( both newly aquired), a #45 “Lancaster” jersey or … #17 Cleveland jersey.
What do you think Stormin??
Maybe we should just play them one game at a time Stormin….all this talk of sweeps and such is just unreasonable right now. All kinds of factors are working against them right now but they havent given up. Taking the games one at a time is the best thing for them.
to the players that do read this….We love you guys and we feel for you passionately! Just keep plugging away and we’ll still be behind you!
Well they are still fun to watch. I still look forward to going to a game. I am excited for tomorrow and will dress for woodchips.
#17 rad. ok, aa, let’s get them 1 game at a time. starting tomorrow.
You said it AA.
maureen…good plan on dressing for wood chips..haha.
And yes they are still fun to watch….for me I always enjoy a Barnstormer game.
Actually, I think we’re off the hook with York. If someone wants to laugh in your face, just tell them “Enjoy, the whole thing was fixed. You’ll find out next year.”
some good news for me. kasey kahne won the bush race last night and is leading tonight.
Stormin…funny thing is the other night when i was out getting autographs at York one of the players was signing for me and the pa guy said something about the war of the Roses series and hyping it up and all that. The player looked at me and said “we might want to play tonights game first”. I just thought that was an appropriate comment to make ….everyone is always looking so far ahead….and you can only play them as they come. i told the player..yeah one game at a time.
It’s funny….how many times has the AL et.al. gushed about how baseball savvy the Lancaster fan is and blah blah blah? Yet this was pulled off with all the subtlety of a flying mallot and the tact of Bud Dwyer. Which is it, boys?
Huh? You lost me there Mark>>>
some good news for jason, he may have his 200,000 hit before the end of the season.
AA…I don’t want to make this seem like an attack or anything bad because this question I am going to ask is not an attack. How can you enjoy a Barnstormer game? I love Baseball and it has been part of my life since I was a kid. I also am as big of a Barnstormer fan as anyone else around. I just have a problem with a league and an ownership group that is playing us fans with something very close to the WWE. If this league was legit (most people will agree this league is not legit right now) then I would enjoy a Barnstormer game no matter if they lose every game. I have nothing against the players because all year they done the best they can. Maybe they sould not be in this league but the effort has been there all year long from all the players. The players been a real pro when it has come to the season. Why I can’t enjoy a game as much is because this league has set it up for the Barnstormers to fail. This season has not been anything like baseball should be. People may call it baseball but this is not TRUE baseball. That is the problem I have. This is not true baseball.
Again, Please don’t take this as an attack because that is not what I am trying to do.
OK, LET’S GO FOR AN EVEN 200!
Tough loss for you guys tonight but I was happy.
Was shaping up to be Lancaster’s night but a homerun in the….6? I think it was….ended that. It just got better from there.
Ulloa pitched beautifully tonight. He was a great pickup.
I am not crazy about BASA, but as I said last night, I think they put together a very talented team in Bridgeport….why they aren’t winning games is beyond me.
As for the LI/Reggie Taylor situation you guys are facing: I think everyone knows how I feel about Frank Boulton.
Just another case of Duck Favoritism. See, guys, I’m not paranoid and it’s not just against Bridgeport.
If it’s possible for this Red Sox fan to hate any team more than she hates the Yankees…that team would be the LI Ducks.
aa……you temporarily forgot. It is not about the games. It is about the advertising to get you to the NEXT game. You are already there. They dont care about that game. They want you to the next game. $$$$$$$$$$$
PTW…When I am watching the game, I forget about all that other stuff like stacking the deck against us. I root for the team that is on the field and hopefully they can win despite the odds. Or I wouldnt keep going back.
When your at a game, you try not to think about all the politics and other b.s. associated with the league, for the most part, the players in this league are easy to root for.
Yeah, that is what I was trying to say
Packmule… I wish I could do that but I can’t. I can’t forget that the deck is stack against us. Maybe it is because I played the game but I look deeper into a game than most. This is not “Pure” baseball and if the Barnstormers were not in this league, I would not spend a second on following this league that has become a joke.
You are right about all that matters is the $$$$. As long as people go to the games and they “Make Money” then nothing is going to change.
NO, it is not PURE baseball which I have found out this year. But it is the best thing we got. I dont think that even if we organized more as a blog we could do much.
But I HAVE given up on winning a half of a year. But I can still have a good time at the game. I still enjoy seeing a Barnstormer towering homerun. A Barnstormer rally (which hasnt happened lately, only HRS, it seems.) Seeing DePriest coming in to the game in the ninth inning and striking out a couple of guys on the way to a standing O last out is enjoyable.
Watching Gonzalez make a nice defensive play at ss or Van Rossum throwing a strike to the plate I can still enjoy. It may not be as fun as last year. There is definitely more excitement when we are on a winning streak, but I can still take some enjoyment out of the game for my ten bucks.
And I would still rather watch the Barnstormers than the Fighting? Phillies. They seem to have a lot of organizational issues themselves. As a casual Major League observer, it doesnt look much better if your team is the Yankees or the Red Sox.
Listening to the Somerset webcast, they are saying it’s getting very windy in central New Jersey, wonder if that’s the storm you guy’s had?
NO, that is vengeance that is going to strike Long Island for stealing Reggie Traitor. Hope YOU make it through safely though.
Oh nooooooooooo,I guess I better “Batten Down the Hatches” Whatever the hell that means. lol
PTW and pack and whomever else wants to read this….I am sorry that I dont feel the same as you when it comes to watching baseball. Or should I say the Barnstormers. I have been alot of different places to watch baseball….all around the country. To me I enjoy watching pro baseball in my hometown and the last time baseball was here..I was probably 5 years old. I enjoy having a hometown team to cheer for, I enjoy a stadium thats 10 minutes from my house. It is baseball if you watch the game…its all the same game…if you watch the game and not worry about the ownership and the player procurement procedures and things we have no control over. when those guys are on the field..they are playing the same game that is played everywhere else. There are “problems” in affiliated baseball..with ownerships and player movements and transactions and all that stuff as well…but because they are affiliated we dont hear about them nearly as much. sure I am already there…and I will continue to be there supporting them. …because I enjoy what goes on between the lines. Sure I complain about different aspects of things on here…and sure I dont agree with some of the stuff that goes on. What goes on between the lines is what i enjoy. If this team was affiliated with a major league team there would still be problems…they might just be of a different type. I enjoy the interaction with the players, I enjoy the game. Anybody who has ever known me for even 5 minutes will know that. I didnt “temporarily forget” anything…if you spend your time at a game thinking about the business side of what happens, or the politics or the bs…you certainly can not enjoy the game I agree. I personally dont do that. I also dont buy the idea that this league is “not legit” or not “true baseball”. The BASEBALL is true, is legit…its the behind the scenes stuff that is not. I am really sorry that you watch a different game than I…but we all see things a little differently. thats my 2 cents.
You are not a Pirate. You are a Duck. You have to do whatever Ducks do in a storm.
Run for cover I guess.
You might want to batten down the hatches on the blog too…someone has ruffled my feathers.
“temporarily forget” was meant jokingly….sorry to say that
Wow,I didn’t expect that.
Okay, I should clarify. I guess I should have said that Barnstormer baseball is NOT what I thought Pure baseball was. There are a lot of behind the scenes that go on that I never thought about before.
The men on the field do play pure baseball. They have nothing to do with the politics that I hear reported daily.
pack (and others)..thats because you read this blog. Or have a little bit more exposure to the behind the scenes stuff going on that the average person in the ballpark does not. Most people in the stands have no idea of this stuff and do enjoy the game. Really if you wouldnt read this blog and hear all the different aspects of what we talk about..you most likely wouldnt see the game differently.
chuckerd…. you didnt see what coming? My comments? You are relatively new here but on occasion I can hold my own.
And its true the players have nothing to do with the bs that goes on…and thats why I continue to support them ..they are there to play the game and yes, i do enjoy the games…every single one of them. There are things that happen in every game that I find positive…and over my years you never know what you are going to see. the only thing the players have control over , ultimately..happens between the lines……scheduling, doubleheaders, road trips, being short of healthy bodies, .and whatever politics is all out of their control.
I am the first to say that the politics and the bs and the money of it gets in the way of what I wish the baseball experience in this league could be. We had Crazy George tonight. OH MY GOD. I can’t believe this man makes a living at this. Makes we wonder what I did wrong in my life. Im the poor schnook working 9-5–I’m guessing he gets more for one night’s appearance than I make in 2 weeks (that’s 70 hours!) And he’s going to the HOF! he’s banging his drum and trying to get the crowd to chant DURING THE GAME. People are trying to work here…..trying to focus on hitting a 4 inch diameter ball being thrown at them 90mph! But know what? It was the biggest crowd since Spongebob was there. It sickens me that baseball isn’t enough to sell out the stadium. It really, truly sickens me. But they have to do what they have to do to make money. I’ve been saying all season that baseball seems to be secondary to the “family entertainment”. I’ve said all season I feel like I’m watching the Ed Sullivan show. There’s the animal act, teh comedian, a little baseball…..and in the end, we have Pesce Azzuro instead of Topo Gigio. Whatever. I’ve learned to ignore the Zooperstars and the idiot with the drum…I just ignore them. I’m there for the baseball. I sit during the game and get up between innings. That’s my way of coping with something that is never going to change. And a lot of the other baseball fans feel the same way. We just ignore the bells and whistles. We don’t need them anyway. It took until August to get player stats on the score board. I am grateful we got it at all.
It’s minor league baseball. We’re the ones who take it more seriously than it’s meant to be taken. Maybe we’re the ones who are wrong. I dunno. I’d like to think the players appreciate fans like us. Kids were crowding around Matt Beech tonight for autographs. ONe of them asked “you ever played in the majors?” and he said he had, the kid asked which team…..he told him, kid asked his name…he told him. They have no idea who he is, they weren’t even alive when he played for the Phillies! And then there’s me, behind teh kids, having an entirely different kinda conversation with him. “Great game you pitched last night, I was so happy you went 8 innings…blah blah blah Sorry the brownies didn’t get back to the clubhouse…..” Completely different plane.
I’m proud of how closely I follow the team and my involvement with them.
BUt sometimes I wonder if I’m taking it far more seriously than it was meant to be taken.
No amy,it wasn’t you,I know you know your stuff.
I do not agree with a lot of what you said but I respect your opinion and thanks for the answer.
I feel that if you played pro ball, you watch the game different than just a fan who has never played the game. There is nothing wrong with either but it is just looked at different. I am a big fan of Hockey and been a fan for over 20 years and been to many game but I look at Hockey different than someone that played the game. They will look at it different than I would and there is nothing wrong with that. It just a fact. Also, there is problems with affiliated ball but nothing like we see with this league. We don’t see one company find players for 4 team in the same league. You don’t see one company own 3 (will be 4) teams in one league. You don’t have players suppose to go to one team and then go to another team out of the blue. You don’t have one teams taking all the players from a travel teams when they like it. You don’t have the guy running the league owning a team also. The only problems in affiliated ball is players getting called up, some teams may have pitch counts on their pitchers because they have a lot of money invested in him (Houston and Cincinnati never had their minor league pitchers on pitch counts unless he was coming off an injury or at the start of the season) and you just hope the scouting department does there job. There is a lot of fan interaction at the lower minors. A lot more than in this league.
Baseball in this league is not “True Baseball” or you would not have the things I listed above. Baseball is more than what goes on the field. Baseball has to do with management, scouting, money, the play on the field, coaching and much more.
Again.. I thank you for your opinion and there is nothing wrong with the way you feel. We all just have different opinions.
Guys we are here for you!!! We will stick with you guys thru thick and thin. We love ya and know you are giving your all. Good luck in York and we will be there for you all in at the Clip!!!! Don’t give up!!!! LET’S GO STORMERS!!!!!
BoosterBabe.. I agree with your post. This league cares more about family entertainment than baseball at times. We all look at the game different and there is nothing wrong with that. Because I played minor league baseball, Baseball is important to me and I look deep into the game. I study the game. There is nothing wrong with that. Then you have people that could care less about baseball. They care about the entertainment and if the team wins then great. There is also nothing wrong with that. We all look at things different. The only reason I say this is not “True Baseball” is because this league is nothing like what I played in the minor leagues. I never had one company finding players for 4 teams or the guy running the league also owning a team. It things like that that makes me feel this is not True Baseball. True baseball is were everyone start on the same level (yes money has changed that somewhat but it still is a lot more level playing field than how this league is run).
But I dont let that stuff interfere with my enjoyment of the game. and thats the point I am trying to make.
I meant to say very important to me in above post. I don’t want it to sound like it is not important to others because that would be wrong. Sorry
I can push that stuff to the side and watch the game. and some cant.
That is fine and there is nothing wrong with that. I just follow baseball different.
The only part that I will put up a fight with someone is when they say this is True Baseball because it is not. You don’t have someone owning 4 teams in the same league. You don’t have a company finding players for 4 teams. You don’t have a guy running the league and also own a team. You don’t have that same person bending (not breaking) the rules to help his team. Why do you think Tom Herr wanted out of indy ball so fast. He wanted to manage in affiliated ball real bad. He would like to manage in the majors but I bet he knows that is a long shot but he still manages in affiliated ball. He jump at the chance to get out of indy ball. Ask any player and they will tell you that Affiliated ball is much better and more like the way baseball is suppose to be. They come to this league with a hope to get back in affiliated ball.
aa.. again that is find and there is nothing wrong with that. We all watch it different. No one is wrong on how they watch the game. I am going to drop this because I don’t want to get into a fight with anyone. We all have opinions and I ask for yours and you were nice enough to answer. again thanks. It was a good little chat.
To everyone,
I am not much of a talker or writer but I think it is time to have my say,
What is going on in this league are the things that ruin the game of baseball. I’m sixty years old and have loved baseball all my life. I have seen Ted Williams play at the end of his career. I have seen some great things happen in baseball that it would take too long to discribe.
My father used to take me to see the Lancaster Red Roses when they were in the Piedmont League, the Eastern League. I got to meet Johnny Pesky in 1958 when they were 74-57 as a farm team for the Detriot Tigers. That was a wonderful time, When my father died in 1985 I told my wife that if Lancaster ever has a team I will get the best seat that I can. That’s what I did.
When the Barnstormers started that first year in 2005 it was like a dream come true. That first year was one of the best years of my life. When the Lancaster Barnstormers won the Atlantic League Championship last year I was so proud of MY BARNSTORMERS that when Denny Harringer thew that last pitch for a strikeout. The first thing that came to my mind was to look up to the sky and say,”We won another one,Dad”. I will have memories of that for the rest of my life. I know they will never be like the Lancaster Red Roses. But I still proud of those Barnstormers.
I just wanted to tell you this story so that you can see how much I love MY LANCASTER BARNSTORMERS and no matter what happens. I won’t give up on them.
I wish that this BASA can show some fairness to all the teams that they control. It has to stop right now before they ruin one of the best and most profitable teams in the Atlantic League. And the greatest and most loyal fans in the Atlantic League, too.
Of all the things I have seen in baseball this is the worst.
See You At The Ballpark!
Hey Pack – Looks like we can revise the quote again. This time we can reference Reggie Traitor!
“Hey, Bud, let’s party!
What Jefferson was saying was, Hey! You know, we left this England place ’cause it was bogus; so if we don’t get some cool rules ourselves – pronto – we’ll just be bogus too! Get it?”
Revise these famous quotes from a movie that should have won an Oscar for next season ……
What a 2008 Championship Party!
What Barnstormer fans were saying was, Hey! You know, we needed to leave BASA ’cause it was bogus; so if we don’t get some cool rules ourselves – pronto – we’ll just be bogus too! Get it?
Good job, Barney.
I was thinking after our conversation last night. I am going to have to watch Caddy Shack this weekend. Yes, that is a classic too.
Aholaha Mr. Hand.
another fast times fan….
Of course,what a classic.
Phil… Great post. I was about to go to bed and am glad I checked the site one more time. You are 100% right. Please feel free to post more because I one would love to read more of your posts. You seem to really care about baseball. I may like to chat with you sometime also because I am a baseball history nut and really think I enjoy some of your stories about the Red Roses.
Thanks again for the great post.
There’s no way the AL will continue to operate next year as it does this year. I can’t wait to see what happens when SoMd enters the league as another BASA team.
Not a good night for Charlie Weatherby last night:
Reading IP H R ER BB SO HR ERA
Weatherby III 0.1 4 3 3 1 0 1 10.95
I think this was his first game since coming off the DL
Another criticism of the League this year: I don’t think it’s happened to Bridgeport except at home, so the impact is less for our guys but the schedule this year stinks! The back to back “Home and away” series have got to stop. NO TEAM SHOULD PLAY THE SAME TEAM 6 DAYS IN A ROW!
And this having to pull out Saturday night and start a new series during the day on Sunday has got to be BRUTAL for the players! Why start a series on a Sunday? It’s just one more indication to me that what happens on the Field is less important than what happens at the gate. At least don’t make it so obvious.
Camden comes in this morning for 3 against Bridgeport.
Do we need to beat them for ya??? Cuz maybe we can capitalize on the fact that they will be tired from travelling.
And for any team to have to go from Bridgeport to either Lancaster or York with 17 hours after the last game ended is brutal.
I just noted that LI starts a road trip to Somerset today, too. So it’s not favoritism, it’s just stupidity.
Anyone know what’s wrong with the Riversharks website? Can’t get into it. Need to know Anthony Ferrari’s number so I can talk to him after the game (he pitches today so there goes that chance to catch him before.
I never try to talk to the starting pitcher before his game. Even the competition!!!!).
He’s got a recipe I need for my cookbook!
Ferrari wore 18 Camden’s last trip here.
Maybe the Camden site got struck by lightning. We have trees and wires down… That was a fun night here in Lancaster county .
It won’t matter anyway what LI does. Camden loaded up with Mikkelsen, Marval and probably Fussell and Davis. Camden should win the AL and that’ll make Boulton nuts.
Well….like I’ve said before. My 2 fav teams are the Bluefish and whoever is playing the Ducks.
I would have loved to watch Mikkelsen in a barnstormer uniform.
Me too Pack!!!
I am not a Lancaster fan, but now I know how you guys feel about this situation. Newark Bears have being treated worst through so many years and we still, but we believe that some day someone stop the Wealthy team of the Ducks. I agree 300% with all of you guys that DUCKS PLAY THEIR CARDS AND WHATEVER THEY WANT IS GRANTED!!! SORRY BUT LOOK WHO ARE THE OWNERS OF THE ATLANTIC LEAGUE. HEY GUYS.. DO A SEARCH… THAT IS WHY THE OTHERS TEAM ARE ALWAYS MISTREATED. KILL THOSE DUCKS WHO DOESN’T HATE THEM…. (PS. SORRY FOR THE CAPS) someone has to stop this nonsense in this league.
