AT YORK REVOLUTION
Pete Hartmann (NR) vs.
Josh Stevens (8-7, 4.13 ERA)
The final series between the Barnstormers and Revolution is here and it doesn’t mean much to Lancaster in the standings. The Barnstormers are six games behind first-place Somerset. All that’s left for the defending champs is a chance for the Community Cup – Lancaster trails the season series 8-7 – and a chance to play spoiler against the Revs, who are a half-game back.
Pre-game notes:
– Hartmann, who started the season in Italy, is making his debut for the Revolution. The lefthander was acquired by the Revs from the Long Island Ducks in the expansion draft in January.
FINAL: Barnstormers 8, Revolution 4
RECORD: 19-22 (48-56)
PLAYER OF THE GAME: Lance Burkhart (3-for-4 with a triple, homer, two runs scored, and three RBIs)
SOME HIGHLIGHTS: Josh Stevens bailed them out. The Barnstormers desperately needed a strong outing from their starter. Stevens provided one: 7 innings, 9 hits, 2 earned runs. The righthander earned his third win in his last 10 starts.
“He was in control all the way,” interim manager Rick Wise said. “We got those early runs and he allowed us to build on it. He mixed and matched his pitches very well and had a real solid outing.”
*Travis Hake went 3-for-5 against his old team near his hometown of Brogue. Hake has fared better since he started seeing more regular playing time. He’s seven for his last 16.
*Derrick DePriest earned another five-out save. He entered in the eighth inning with the bases loaded and the Barnstormers leading 8-3. After allowing a single, he retired five of the final six hitters he faced. His team record for saves rests at 17.
*This was Lancaster’s eighth game in six days and it was playing a day game after traveling overnight from Bridgeport. It was a gut check and the team responded. Do the Barnstormers have enough energy left to get to the finish line?
“I think we do,” DePriest said. “Obviously, there’s no way to tell. We’re doing everything we can. Rick has been fantastic at keeping us loose and motivated. Guys are having fun. As much as the trials and tribulations mount up at times, we’re still thinking positive.”
*The Community Cup series is tied at eight.
*The Barnstormers know they need a sweep if they have any hope of making these last three weeks meaningful in terms of the standings.
“That’s pretty much what we’re looking at,” Wise said. “Every game is extremely important. The guys know that. They know where they stand. We’ll just keep on battling.”
WHITHER REGGIE?
*The players didn’t seem concerned about the Reggie Taylor fiasco. One player said the team was joking about his absence on the bus ride from Lancaster to York. Another said that as the days dragged on without Taylor, the team stopped expecting him to arrive. Wise said this … “You can’t miss what you never had.”
*Head of baseball operations Adam Gladstone refused comment on Taylor’s situation. In my business, that usually means something isn’t resolved. Prior to the start of Sunday’s game, no one associated with Lancaster had talked with Taylor about his decision. Gladstone and hitting coach Glenn Murray each tried to reach Taylor by phone.

Go Stormers!!!
Good luck today guys!!!
Anyone NOT at the game?

Oh geez JT is the k man/
Hey Stormin…whats the game report…. i will be at the game tomorrow night with DBAck lady…I think we are sitting in 23..
York and their breadsticks, gee wiz!!!!
I have that terrible feeling that the offense has shut down for the day like last night. Plus Dom’s error cost us a run. Otherwise Stevens has pitched well so far.
WAY TO GO LANCE!!!! WOO HOO!!!!! HE IS HOT TODAY!!!
CAN’T TOUCH THIS!!!
sizzle27…I see you have busted out that new alias!
Yess..was nice that Lance got the 3 run lead back.
Stormin…from the game for me…I need that update….
Dave…glad Travis is getting to play but that dugout report you did with him wasnt all that interesting…seems like all he did was whine about not playing. I understand his point but clearly not the place and time.
(Just my humble opinion….)
Maybe now..stevens can hold a 6 run lead and give 8 innings or even a complete game..that’d help the bullpen out bigtime.
ok ..that run should bring a reliever in..I hope..
Rad when you get home and read this…go to Mike Ashmores website…very nice article about your son!
here we go blowing the game…Harris…ugh
LANCE IS HOT TODAY!!! WAY TO GO MAN!!!! WAY TO GO STORMERS!!!!
Come on Derreck lets finishh this off! We are behind ya !
come on derrick!!!!
Stormers win!!!!!!
Way to go Stormers!!!! Great job!!!! AWESOME!!!!
Way to hang in there Derrick! Nice work!
Nice Job Derrick..but I wish sometime we’d win easier Lol..no nail biting like lately.
Sorry for the lack of updates. No internet connection in York. Nice win for the Barnstormers, though.
Tom,
Your help would be appreciated. I will let Kate Thompson, their PR manager know you’re coming.
And, yes, I hab a code. Actually, it got a little better today, but it is settled in my chest and occasionally makes my voice crack.
I suffered from the same lack of internet as Jason. And, Rad, thanks for the goodies.
what a game. stevens looked good, depriest looked good. i like the thinking aa, one game at a time. the newsong was good until we had to leave. a few fans there supporting the boys for lancaster. we go for game two tomorrow night.
I am finally going to make it over to York on Monday night. Any suggestions on parking? Unfortunately, I will be arriving late but expect to be there by 7:45 or so.
Anybody else going tomorrow night?
sorry for no updates. we were in section 26 and it was a little warm, plus i was really into the game.
travis did not do to bad filling in at short. i hope danny is filling better. i did see rad and her daughter, and we saw mark and his family walking to the cheap seats. i bet it was hot out there.
No problem Stormin….I just had to let you know that I was waiting and you never came through..haha. I knew I couldnt count on ya..haha. some friend you are.Hha.
Ultimate….I will be there tomorrow night. Unfortunately I cant offer any help on parking because by that time I would imagine that smalls field lot will be full. I normally get there pretty early so I can park there.
Rad…I was wondering if you ALWAYS have brownies baking at your house? Haha.
I wonder what Rick Wise will do if OPD asks him to throw one of these York/Lancaster games?
GO SOMERSET!!!!
Oh and Stormin…since we will not be at the season ticket holder event…I wonder if we get a “gift” this year. This was the event that they had handed out our season ticket holder gift last year. Not that I am worried about getting it…they will most likely just ask us to pick them up at a later date. Heard anything about them?
nope. i think it is a jason bobblehead. he is sitting at a desk with a laptop.
Mr B…Go Somerset? Unfortunately for the next 3 days we are at the mercy of Long Island if we want any chance at improving in the standings!
Haha Stormin..good one! But I had heard that, that item was for bloggers only!
For those interested in the whole BASA issue, this week’s Q&A is with Adam Gladstone.
Oh goody..this should be “informative”..haha.
Oh and BTW Jason…did he actually attend one of our games? Thats news in itself!
Saweeet! Will there be a link on this blog to see the article? Did you already do the Q&A?
I just transcribed the interview. I tried to get concrete answers. Gladstone is a slippery fellow and I think he takes pride in that fact.
Any questions like these?….
- Do you think you will be back next year?
- Was it really Franks fault?
- Do you play favorites?
- How deep rooted with evil is your operation?
- What product do you use in your hair?
Jason…that is most likely part of the problem with him!
I asked him everything we talk about here on a daily basis.
Good job!
Nice Work!
So did you feel slimy after the interview?
as in did he pull stuff like looking you directly in the eye, make you feel special, only then to try and allow his own agenda into the mix?
Did he laugh at questions…. how pissed did you get?
Was he wearing strong cologne and drinking from a bottle of wine which was he recently received as a gift? Then in the end did he try to make a move on you, you pulled away, he says sorry, then for some reason he gets pissed like it was your fault?
should be well worth the 50 cents.
Nice Win today!
Thanks on the atricle Amy… Cool.. fan favorite… that’s my boy, Thanks Mike
This time of year the brownies are in… when the boys need them and yes.. they had them today. I have a batch of Buffalo wing cookin right now… E.A.G.L.E.S. are on soon. I have the wings every Sunday in Football season.
JT… as much as I hate to say it, Thanks for the bread Sticks.
Sizzle27… hmmm welcome newby.. Ha Ha
nice.
It wasn’t combative at all. That’s mostly because Gladstone and I have had this conversation a few times before. We don’t agree on BASA’s shortcomings and he thinks the system works. I’ve tried to lay out the reasons why it doesn’t, but he doesn’t find them convincing.
It’s not the 50 cents that is the problem, it’s remembering to run out and get it the day it comes out. I’ll give Jason the 50 cents next time I see him.
Oh, and I got a no comment on Taylor.
Wonder why he thinks the system works? Maybe because if it didn’t he would have to go through the trouble of creating a new position for himself.
We’ll give him a few comments on Taylor… and they are all NASTY comments !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree with #57….why he could ever think that a system like that works is beyond me…and most others on here. I am sure you have tried to convince Gladstone Jason…its a shame he cant see what this system has done.
And a no comment about Taylor? If he was as surprised about it as you mentioned in last nights pregame notes..one would think that he has some comment about the situation wouldnt you? That makes things even more interesting.
the article sounds even better. i will buy two copies for the cause.
wha is funny is that there is a lady in the stands that has all the weekly articles and gets the players to sign them, and no it is not aa. i wonder if she will be able to get gladstone to stop by and sign it.
Haha Stormin….maybe I will try that with the Gladstone article…..nah, he doesnt come to our game so when would I see him..haha.
Added a recap with some Reggie stuff.
thats interesting Jason…but you could probably figure the players and Wise werent really expecting him to show up.
I think everyone should turn their backs on Wednesday when Reggie is announced, maybe all of the Ducks. They do not deserve to be treated as gentleman.
The game today was great, the good part of being in the baking woodchips is we go to say hi to Rob Henkel and congatulate Josh as he was walking to the locker trailor. He thanked us as we congratulated him.
So is it out of the question that ODP would want York to beat Lancaster since York needs to get passed Somerset? If it’s not that far fetched then how far fetched would it be for ODP to the try and make that wish a reality? The only thing that would stop them is morality. You may say it’s not about morality, but try and tell Frank that.
AA:
Will you have a specific jersey on in York on Tuesday night? What section will you be sitting in? I have no idea where they will stick me. Rad: Where do they put us in Dork?
i went down to the field after the game to talk to one of the staff members i joke with from time to time, and up close, their field looks great and level. it will be interesting to see how it holds up with all their home games.
For those of you going to York on Friday – This was posted on their website:
Parking For The August 31 Game
Smalls Field will be unavailable as a parking area for the Friday, August 31 York Revolution game due to the first home York High Football game of the season. Fans are asked to use City parking in the garages and other available lots as an alternative. The Revolution will be running a shuttle from the Susquehanna Commerce Lot to the Stadium starting at 5:30 p.m. There is already free parking available in this lot.
ultimate…Monday i am sitting in section 23…not sure about tuesday…I am going with rad on tuesday. I think the red roses #34 for jersey unless its hot!
usually in 16ish.. today my tickets said sec. 4…. yuck, Rev. country. So we sat in front of Dave.. and cheer’d real loud… so loud that the Rev. radio guys taped up a sign (as a joke) that said “shhhh, on the air” and one of the stadium employees wrote “boo Lancaster”, so we got louder
HAH
I will be back in DDdddooorrk with [AA] Tuesday.
Yippeeeee the kids start school this week
Jason—Heroes is coming out on DVD. Now I can actually watch the show and get caught up!! When does the new season star?
ummmm, Go Somerset!!
Why would anyone want to go to York on Friday night. It’s ladies night at the Clip. It’s the final game with the ducks and I want to see my wife dig for a diamond.
Wonder if I’m able to dig. Is there any clause about “family of employees” in the rule book. I have yet to dig for a diamond, maybe this is the year
Ultimate, My daughter and I ended up at the bullpen to hang with Stormin and his wife.. another host family came down too. ahhh, it almost felt like home … LOL
I still haven’t seen the Heroes finale. No spoilers!
Never mind. Sept 24th Heroes season two starts. You still have time to watch all the back LOST episodes since it doesn’t start up again until Feb.
I’ve actually never seen an episode of Heroes, just bits and pieces. A lot of my friends love it and I walsways feel left out at the water cooler

everybody dies jason.
how about them eagles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GO STEELERS!!!!!!!!
i am with you pack. anyone who beats the eagles is a friend of mine. go cowboys.
COWBOYS ought to rule the division this year. Dont u think??
a no comment usually means something sinister is a-foot.
When Reggie goes to York or Camden, remember where you heard it first.
i can only hope pack.
Rad and AA you really think you know who this is? well, your right, i am goin to have to come up with something better
AA you got mail
No, Taylor isn’t going to York or Camden. I’m sure the Barnstormers are unhappy that Taylor signed with the Ducks and are taking issue about the transaction with the league office. I don’t know the protocol for such things. Frankly, no one does because the league’s rules are so sketchy. The fact that Gladstone isn’t talking tells me this goes above him.
We’ll see how it all gets resolved soon, I’m sure.
he signed with the Ducks?
WTF?!
I leave to go the in-laws for 1 weekend and look what happens. sheesh
but the fact that Gladstone isn’t telling – makes me think he was involved. If he wasn’t, a simple comment saying “we’re disappointed he chose Long Islands…..” would be easy enough to say.
Three for three today!
Barnstormers beat York (happy for you guys!)
Bluefish beat Camden (is that good for you guys, too?) 4 in a row!!!! (maybe we won’t end the season in last place)
AND: are you ready for this?????
Boosterbabe’s brownies won a blue ribbon!!!!!
Unbelievable!!!
Friends of mine talked me into entering my brownies (with nuts) into the Wilton (CT) Grange Fair today. I gave the brownies to them at the Bluefish game Saturday night, they entered them for me on Sunday morning. And the funny thing is, I didn’t think they were as good as they usually are. But I figured, what the heck?
I went on with my day, barely giving a thought to the contest. Went to a friend’s for dinner on Sunday, got home around 9pm, listened to my answering machine, and there were my friends from Wilton–guess what???
MY BROWNIES WON A BLUE RIBBON!!! (Which is first prize!)
Ok, those of you who have tasted them (Dave, AA) probably aren’t surprised. But I AM!!!
Next entry will be the Fairfield Grange Fair in two weeks. (They only want 6 brownies, so you know the rest of the pan will end up at the ballpark!)
If I win there–I may have to do something about this…..
Look out Mrs Fields, here comes Booster Babe!
I’m still in shock!
Congratulataions on the brownies… maybe we won’t need a brownie bake-off… I think you win!!!!
Although, my boys LOVE mine
I thnk their just so glad to get some homemade goodies.
Know what? I’m sure yours are darn good, too. I have heard a lot about them!!!!
They should love yours….sometimes I think it’s the feeling behind them that makes them so good. There’s nothing fancy in mine, believe me! I prefer the Nestle’s unsweetened Chocolate (Hershey’s is right behind) to any of the fancy stuff. The guys have asked me “what do you put in those things” and the answer is always “Butter, sugar, chocolate….love”.
They smile.
I think it’s very cool that we bake for our guys. I love the Red Sox but I doubt they’d even care about a pan of brownies in the clubhouse….that’s the difference between MLB and AL! (well, one of many!!!!!!)
Love the Sox … over the Yankees any day!
Blues Jays first, Phillies second… then Sox
Stormin:
I won’t be in York on Friday. I just posted that for anyone who happens to be going to that game. Hard to believe they would skip Ladies’ Night at the Clip, but just in case I thought I would post it.
Everyone:
I will be in York tonight. I was thinking it was Tiuesday night, but it will actually be tonight. AA will you have the #34 Jersey on tonight?
Mom and I are still waiting for some of Rads brownies. I guess maybe if I wore a #26 Jersey she’d share some with us…
Thanks for the win this weekend, guys! It’s nice to know that we have a chance to win the “Battle of the Roses”.
Go ‘Stormers!
Who all is going Tuesday???
Maybe brownies for the fans??
I will not be going on Tuesday. Sorry I will miss out on the treats! You can donate my share to Dave or Bosco.
That’s OK Ultimate, my kids are working all weekend so I’m sure to be at the Clipp with brownies once or twice.
When are they going to take Reggie off the “Where Are They Now” page beacuse we know where he is and really don’t give a sh* t anymore!!!
Jon Danos mention in the Intel this morning that they were meeting today to discuss this issue of Taylor jumping ship and going to LI Ducks.
Let’s see what spin the Ducks and Klein put on this whole situation. I need a good laugh on a Monday!
Go ‘Stormers!
dad
I’ve called Danos, Frank Boulton, Joe Klein, Michael Pfaff (the Ducks GM) and Adam Gladstone.
*Gladstone refused comment again this morning. Danos, Boulton and Pfaff didn’t immediately return calls.
*Klein said this about Taylor’s rights …
“A club has to be negotiating with the player. That is the way you retain (the rights). We are letting the teams resolve this problem right now.”
Clearly, the Barnstormers were negotiating with Taylor and the Ducks overstepped their bounds. So the Ducks and Barnstormers will have to come to some sort of agreement. Klein does not anticipate being involved.
Jason, you reported on the blog way before Frank got fired, during the Bridgeport series, that another AL team was talking to Taylor. Later after the announced signing, you reported it had been LI. I’m just surprised it turned out this way. How did Gladstone not know of LI’s interest back then.
Gladstone knew of the Ducks’ interest in Taylor. The two of us talked about it. The Barnstormers took Taylor at his word that he was coming to Lancaster, primarily because Taylor called Gladstone in the first place. Obviously, the Barnstormers got burned.
Here’s the pertinent question in my opinion: If the Barnstormers have a singular head of baseball operations, does this happen? I don’t think so. I think this is further evidence that BASA can’t handle running four teams.
It’s just not right !

In honor of Scottie being name “fan favorite for 2007″
I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if LI shows up this week sans Taylor.
I guess one way to look at this in the future is when the contract is actually signed. You said in the past the players contract is not signed until he actually arrives at the stadium. Is there a way that as soon as the player commits, a contract is drawn up, faxed or mailed, and signed before the player shows up to the stadium?
Or is that what you mean by one person getting the players for one team. That person would fly down with the contract and the player would sign it before it is even released to the public that the player is coming.
If you read the Barnstormer news article (July 27, 2007) the heading reads: “Barnstormers Re-sign Key Member Of Championship Squad”. Apparently he was “NOT” signed at the time of that press release.
Got a call this afternoon from Mr. Dave Cochran, Customer Service Specialist, asking if mom and I are attending tomorrow’s picnic/batting practice/informal chat.
Of course, I want to participate in the “informal chat” portion and also see if I can still touch a baseball with a bat in my old age.
I know that many will be at the Barnstormers/Revs game and maybe the front office was concerned that many wouldn’t be in attendance for the picnic.
Of course it wasn’t suppose to be like this and I know that tomorrow’s game may impact on the “informal chat” attendance.
dad
I recall the article reading than an oral agreement had been reached, nothing was ever actually signed. The implication was clear, however…Taylor was coming back to Lancaster, hopefully in time to be of some help. So this could have gone one of two ways. One, an agreement was reached and LI stole him. Or two, there was no agreement, he was up for auction and LI got him and the article was written to keep attendance from plummetting the last 6 weeks of the season. Either seems plausible. One thing I know for sure is you never seem to get a straight answer from anyone concerning anything, so I’d imagine all we’ll ever know is what we’re supposed to know in the manner we’re supposed to know it, just like Offerman.
Also, I was happy to read that the team saw this for the joke it was and wasn’t really believing he was going to show up. It was a brutal year, but at least this team can say they did what they did themselves without any help from the AL, BASA or MLB ringers. Assuming any of them want anything to do with this two-bit chickensh*t league next year.
You know Mark…I was thinking the same about Long Island coming in but leaving Taylor behind. Kinda wondering that myself. Now that would be gutless…at least show up and take whatever comes..right?
Stormin…yeah what Jason said…he was NOT signed at all despite what the press release said. He would have actually signed a contract when he got here….I am assuming that contract would have been signed on Sunday before the bus left to go to York. Like I said last night this was all a pr move to make it look like we were “improving” the team. Clearly the Barnstormers got burned on this one. Maybe they should not go out and release things like this before they are actually FACT> Jason has been saying for along time that each team needs a player procurement person…. read that ONE for each team not ONE for all 4. I dont believe this would have happened if this was the case but then again its the Ducks and Frank Boulton.
And yes that article was clear that Reggie was coming back. Mark..I agree with you on that. The fact that Taylor contacted Gladstone at the start makes it all the more slimy!
Mark and AA, I have to agree with both of you. Mark you are 100% right with both of you posts (109 and 110). AA is right in that this was a PR move to make it look like they were improving this team and keep the fans happy and keep them coming to the ballpark. The problem is that this PR move blow up in the Barnstormers face. The Barnstormers have to take some of the blame on this. They were the one that put it on the web site before it was a done deal and they look real bad in it. I was talking to a friend of mine this morning about baseball and we got into talking about the Barnstormers and he ask me why Taylor had not been playing and I had to tell him about this site and the whole mess with Taylor (He may start posting on here but not sure). He laugh and was mad at the same time. He was more mad at the Barnstormers for posting on the web site that he was coming back. He said the Barnstormers mislead people or were very dumb and careless to post that on their web site with it not a done deal.
This is how I think this will work out. Taylor is going to stay with Long Island and then they will send the barnstormers some player from their team that really will not help us out because the season is ending and then they will feel that all will be forgotten by next year.
Mark.. I also thing that I really don’t see many of these players coming back next year because who wants to mess with all this crap and BASA. The only players I think may come back would be Burkhart and Hileman (They may not come back either). I think the rest are gone so we will have a whole new team next year. I also don’t blame them for not coming back. Who would want to play for a team that has ODP/BASA running them. I see some of these players going to Newark, Somerset, maybe even LI, and other leagues. I don’t think we will see Rick Wise around either. This team is going to be very different next year.
This is why I now look at the Barnstormers purely as a local outlet for baseball activity and family fun (it’s still tough to swallow). I don’t look at them as a team with devoted players (i know that’s not their fault. I don’t look at it like it’s Lancaster tradition even though that is just the crap they try to sell you. I almost bought into it too. Now I will go to games because I love the game of baseball and my kids can play in the jungle gym. I guess there’s nothing wrong with that.
Hell, the team is only three years old. You can only pretend for so long. Especially if they keep $h*ting on you!
Like I said in my last post, We would get a player from LI that would not be any help to us for this year.
ALB.com says there has been talk that we could get Raul Marval from Long Island and they keep Taylor. The problem is that Raul plays short and we have a real good one already. I know Rual can play second and a little third but he played mostly short his career. Don’t think he would be a big help for us the rest of this year. The league does not run this way but the only way I accept it is if there is a promise in writting that Rual would play for us next year and have him play short is danny does not come back or know that he can play second if danny comes back. I personally would like to see them send Dionys Cesar with the same promise that he would play for us next year and can’t play in Mexico or another team. He has to play for us. That is the only way I accept us getting a player from this mess called Reggie Taylor. The Barnstormers should make as much noise about this whole mess as them can. Don’t let LI off easy!!!!
It would be gutless which is why I’m kind of expecting it. Long Island is a good example of how you can be a winner and a loser at the same time.
Did anybody read today’s New Era Barnstormer Weekly and Q and A???
I have a question for Adam Gladstone because I know he reads this. Why didnt you answer all of Jason’s questions??
Too many of them you evaded.
EX: Do you believe Basa had adequately and quickly addressed the Barnstormers’ needs?
ANS: Ultimately the coaches and managers have the final say” is your last line of your answer. NO, the question was do you believe Basa addressed the needs. You didnt answer the question by saying the coaches have the final say.
EX: It seems like Lancaster has gotten the fewest additions. Is that correct??
ANS: Short version– one is always going to have the least and one is going to have the greater amount. Thanks for that clear answer to the question.
Jason was right. Adam didnt answer the questions. He gave answers to questions but they werent the questions that Jason asked. He weaseled his way around Jason’s questions.
But why does he have to answer to us. We are only the fans.
