Minor leaves Revolution
January 25, 2008 by Jason Guarente

Ryan Minor will not coach for the York Revolution this season. The former Barnstormers third baseman has accepted a similar position with the Delmarva Shorebirds. That’s the Baltimore Orioles’ Single-A affiliate in the South Atlantic League.
Minor, who was initially expected to return to manager Chris Hoiles’ staff in York, was a player for Delmarva in 1997. The former big leaguer started his coaching career with the Road Warriors in 2006 and had been part of the Atlantic League since 2002. He retired as a player after being part of the Barnstormers’ inaugural team.
More from the Revolution’s press release:
In a move widely discussed in baseball circles for the past several months, the York Revolution in conjunction with the Baltimore Orioles today announce that infield/bench coach Ryan Minor will be joining the Delmarva Shorebirds, the South Atlantic League affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles. Minor joins manager Ramon Sambo’s coaching staff in Salisbury, Maryland, Ryan’s home town.
He also rejoins the organization with which he made his major league debut. Minor played in Delmarva as a key member of the 1997 South Atlantic League championship team, where he also met and married wife Allison. The couple and their daughter live in Salisbury.
The Orioles had inquired with the Revolution about Minor’s availability. The 33-year-old had signed to return to York in 2008, but the Revolution granted permission for him to pursue the Delmarva opportunity. York’s ownership, which includes Hall-of-Famer Brooks Robinson, maintains a close working relationship with the Orioles. The group previously owned several of the Orioles minor league affiliates, including Delmarva.
“Ryan is going to be missed on the coaching staff and in the York community,” commented York manager Chris Hoiles, also a former Oriole. “Ryan is a good person, he has a very good baseball mind, and I loved having him sit beside me in the dugout, offering his advice on various situations that would come up during the course of a game. This move gives Ryan a chance to coach in his hometown and further his dream of returning to the big leagues as a coach or manager.”

Good for him, I hope it is a good move for him.
Ryan was such a nice guy when he was with the Barnstormers.
Congratulations Ryan. One step/level at a time.
Wish ya the best Ryan, Good luck!!!
Very happy for Minor. Didn’t he play for an all road team besides the Road Warriors.
Minor played for Newark and Atlantic City, but never a travel team. He did have a brief stint as a pitcher in the Dodgers system, which is an interesting sidebar to his career.
Where the heck is Ultimate Stormer fan???
She is very quiet…
The many times I met and talked to Ryan he was a class act. Something that was typical for most of the players and coaches in the AL.
He will be missed, afterall, who will talk to the fans on the third base line?
Hi Syd and everyone else! I’m back. Just took a week or so to get caught up at home and didn’t have much time for emails and websites.
That is great news to have a job right in his hometown and for a team that he once played for!
We should be hearing about the first signing soon I would think. Heard York signed their first the other day.
Ryan is definitely a great guy. Plus, there’s another side to this that I thought people might not know about.
His young daughter, Reagan, was born premature in December of 2006 and caught meningitis. While I hear she’s doing well now, I know she’s been in and out of the hospital a couple times in the last year or so.
It can’t be easy being on the road with that on your mind, so coaching for Delmarva will certainly help that a bit.
Gee, with Ryan being so close to home………maybe they’ll add to the family
Good luck, Ryan!
My wife and I miss you tossing balls to me to hand out to the kids along the first base line during the games. No other first baseman has done it since.
You had a good heart and surely loved he game of baseball. We all could tell.
