Mike Nannini 1-2, 4.58 ERA |
|
Jon Searles 4-3, 3.62 ERA |
|---|
The Barnstormers will have to get used to life on the road for a while. They begin a six-game trip on Long Island today and will play 17 of the next 23 away from the friendly confines of the Clip. This will be a test for Von Hayes’ crew, which is tied with Somerset for first place in the Freedom Division.
Mike Nannini makes his first start for Lancaster. The once-coveted prospect — and 37th overall draft pick in 1998 — has become a journeyman in recent years. He played for four teams at the Double-A and Triple-A levels in 2007. Nannini is looking forward to being a full-time starter for the first time since 2005.
Jon Searles played in the Padres’ system at Double-A San Antonio last season — putting up solid numbers. The 6-3, 200-pound righthander is one of the Ducks’ local guys. He hails from nearby Huntington.

Scoring summary …
| Barnstormers | 000 | 000 | 000 | 0 | 3 | 1 |
| Ducks | 000 | 002 | 00x | 2 | 6 | 1 |
FINAL: Ducks 2, Barnstormers 0
Ducks 6th: Haverbusch’s double scores Everett. Haverbusch scores on Spanos’ throwing error. Ducks lead 2-0.
RECORD: 2-2
PLAYER OF THE GAME: Jon Searles
| 6 IP | 2 H | 0 R | 0 ER | 2 BB | 5 K |
That’s an impressive line for a pitcher who had made just one start since 2003 prior to Tuesday night. The Barnstormers never figured out Searles. They only put three runners into scoring position, one reaching third base.
The pitchers:
*Mike Nannini had a strong debut. The righthander took a shutout into the sixth inning. He may have tired at that point. Keep in mind, most of these pitchers didn’t throw more than three consecutive innings during spring training. His line …
| 5.1 IP | 6 H | 2 R | 1 ER | 2 BB | 3 K |
Of note: Nannini struck out former big-league catcher Mike Rose twice. Nannini’s outing was a good sign for Lancaster’s rotation, which has been solid through the first turn.
*Judd Songster was the first option out of the bullpen. He’s appeared in three of the four games and appears to be one of Von Hayes’ favorites at this point. Songster pitched 1 2/3 innings scoreless. The only baserunner he allowed came on an error.
*Ross Peeples made his first appearance. Although he walked Pete Rose Jr., he struck out Carl Everett and got a double-play grounder for a scoreless inning.
The hitters:
*Not much to say about the offense when it’s shut out on three hits. Lance Burkhart’s double and two singles were all the Barnstormers could muster. They were 0-for-12 with RISP and registered 11 strikeouts.
*The slow start of the ex-big leaguers continued:
-
Matt LeCroy: 0-for-3 with a HBP. He’s 1-for-15 this season.
John Nelson: 0-for-3, reached on error. He’s 1-for-11 so far.
*3B Vasili Spanos’ throwing error in the sixth inning led to the Ducks’ second run. It was the Barnstormers’ first error of the season.
*Dominick Ambrosini went 0-for-3 with a strikeout in his first game against the Barnstormers since being released on April 21.
*One thing about the post-Ambrosini lineup: It’s very right-handed. The Barnstormers only have two regulars – Brian Stavisky and Ian Bladergroen – who hit exclusively from the left side. That’s odd for a team that plays 70 games at the Clip.
*With the lineup bottom-heavy with righties, Ducks manager Dave LaPoint was able to use submariner Ben Grezlovski to mow them down in the seventh inning. He struck out Burkhart and Jutt Hileman and got Spanos to fly out to LF.
*Jarred Ball, the OF signed to replace Ambro, has started just one of four games.

York is Sold Out (except for lawn seating) but we will be there.
Wow, sold out. Impressive.
What do you guys think about I.M. Fun trying to get everyone to say “FROSTY” for the KMan?
In my usual passive agressive manner I chose to show my disdain by not participating in that particular activity.
They need to change one thing on the Frosty gig. Everyone should get a Frosty, not just the loudest section. If you aren’t in a section with a lot of kids, forget it. Also the “Lawn People” will never win with the current set up. Give away 1 per game no matter how may times he strikes out. That way no coupons, just show your ticket stub. That would gt everyone into it. If cost is an issue, pick a random section (1st Base, Home Plate, 3rd Base, Lawn People) before the game and announce it. OK let’s get started …. Frosty, FRosty, FROsty, FROSty, FROSTy, FROSTY!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don’t care for it any more than I cared for that “breadsticks” crap in York. It strikes me as grossly self-centered….not really why I go to a baseball game. But that’s me. If people think they’re getting something for free, I’m sure it’ll catch on, so better get used to it, like it or not.
Guess I’d better warm up the old AM radio.
I’m anti-Frosty.
Just a follow up I am also anti-frosty. My coments were for if you are going to do it, do it right!
Dominick only played in 1 game? Is this because of his late arrival? I thought he would be considered a regular in the lineup.
On a side note, are they still charging for parking at York?
Interesting question Barney…why would they stop charging for parking?
Also about Ambrosini only playing one game so far for LI…their outfield possiblities already consist of Carl Everett, Jamal Strong, Estee Harris and Kevin Haverbusch…not sure where Ambro even fits in the scheme of things there. The Ducks were already loaded in the OF.
The Frosty ( and for that matter the breadsticks thing in York) is pretty stupid if you ask me. Did anyone notice after the game on Sunday they made some kind of “apology ” on the PA system to Calvin Pickering…like they were sorry about the Frosty/kman thing and thanks for being a sport about it? Or was I just imagining that? Now THAT part was stupid.
I am with you Jason on the Frosty thing. Trying to copy York. They should come up with something on their own for the K-man.
Parking still cost unless you are at my house. There are a few “hidden” places to park that are free but if you are found, it cost or you can park on some side streets away from the stadium and you will need to walk and bring your “Club”.
Jason knows a great place to park but getting your car back and the price may be a problem.
Maybe if we turn it around and the players get a free frosty or meal instead.
Wasn’t money given to a charity last season when the KMan
player of the game struck out? If so, too bad we can’t
keep it POSITIVE like that again this year. I’m not a fan
of the “frosty” chant, same goes for the “breadstick” chant in York.
Ultimate, I like that idea.
When the K-Man strikes out, we’ll give him a frosty.
Gives him some incentive to wiff.
I actually have no problem with the Breadstick chant. It is kind of fun when a Stormer makes the crowd go hungry. I just don’t think it is for us. Especially when a batter as big as Pickering is up to bat. I don’t want him to think I am calling him Frosty. I love to live. The other thing they copied from York is the Texas Road House Sumo Wrestling match.
I just like coming up with some new and different things. I love the Turkey Hill Tea Chugging Contest.
Frosty you can keep.
Everyone does the Sumo match…Reading Harrisburg..they all do it. Gets old pretty fast. Another interesting thing is the tug of war like thing with the bungee cord. Reading does it where its a longer cord and its adults…but of course the adults are “plants” (front office persons or game time employees) due to liability concerns. Its actually funny most of the time. I guess we are not going for originality on these things.
I will see how Stu Pendous & the Big Hitters do tonight in York.
I know the owner of the company that does the T-Shirt Toss in York and got a wear it before you can catch it t-shirt from him on Sunday. They are sharp.
It is the only York Revolution thing I wear.
I think for the K-Man they should have a really big mean dog on a chain. The croud would chant the dogs name, lets say the dogs name is Chopper.
Chopper, Chopper, Chopper….
If the K-Man strikes out, the frothing dog would be released on the batter. The chants would turn to kill, kill, kill…..
OK, this idea is probably way ahead of it’s time.
I think the movie Running Man takes place in 2025.
Warmin up the hands for bloggin tonight and listening to our own Dave… is Tom up there too or just at home games?
to DePriest… better bring that ERA down tonight … ouch
I’m sorry to disagree on this frosty thing but .. it gets the crowd going… Pickering didn’t need [another] a frosty but I would have liked one. I guess I wasn’t in the proper section. The whole stadium should get one…When I got my bread sticks ( thanks again JT ) we also bought a pizza and soda so in the end the Hut made out like bandits !!!
Hey Stormin drop by the visitor pen and say HI
P.S.
( I know your out there Dr. House… good TV show last night)
Actually Mr. Barnstormer.. didn’t they do that in Rome … with Lions !!!!
I’m pumped for tonights game. Does Dave and Tom still blog during games?
I’d kill to actually watch the away games.
(no offense to Dave – he does a great job on the radio)
If it looks like Duck,
And plays ball like a Duck,
The team must be from Long Island,
Which means they really suck!!!!!
***** GO STORMERS ****
Tom said they are so busy in the booth this season.. doing all the MLB and AL score updates that they really don’t have a moment to check the blogg..
That stinks. That was half the fun.
Syd,
I am actually sitting right behind the Blue Crab bull pen so I will say HI from the blogger world.
I’m surprised he hasn’t yelled at me yet for that comment I just made… he must be working out.
Give him a hug too… LOL
Stormin…PLEASE dont give DDP a hug….you’ll give us all a bad name!
Good luck tonight guys we will be listening and blogging. The three days at home was a tease….
Hey, Hey a real stormer fan, Big D (shorty) is one of ours… we love him like a son…
syd I am fully aware of that….its the guy hugging a guy thing that I am talking about. I am one of Derricks biggest fans from last year…geez.
Oh.. OK then.. I thought you were talking the cootie thing…
Good luck tonight guys!!! Great interview with Eric A. Go Stormers!!!!!
Tom’s got too much going on to travel, but he would like to get a road game or two under his belt.
You bloggin tonight Dave??
Inning 2 already.. sorry, I was cooking/eating dinner
Glad to hear the 0 all score
Back on the blog. I just had too much going on that first weekend.
Glad the weather cleared up for tonight’s game,it was cold rainy and miserable this morning and early afternoon on Long Island. Now it’s just cold.
Looks like I haven’t missed much.
LETS GO WOODS!!
Crap! Oh no, big bad Carls up!
PHEW, got out of that one!!
LETS GO BIG BOY LECROY!
I must say, there is reason to get excited about every player this year.
you can say that again Mr. Barnstormer
Nice pace to the game so far,4 innings in a little over an hour.
There ya go Burky!!
Not related: If you go flying back through time and you see somebody else flying forward into the future, it’s probably best to avoid eye contact.
alright, lets move Burkhart home now.
Klebe would sac bunt right now
Dave.. your a man with connections. There is a kid on Lehigh U. named Mike Lebo… There was a catcher with the Blue Jays farm system in the late 70’s name Mike Lebo.. is this a father/son thing.
Mike was from this side of PA so I’m guessin they are.
Way to get out of it! OK, lets get some runs fellas.
I’ll have to look it up. I am not familiar with the family, but it looks good. Maybe Lehigh has its player bios online.
Sydney- you’re too funny!!! I’m bummed that I can’t listen to the york/blue crab game! If anyone knows the stats of that game, I’d appreciate it! Lets hope that ERA goes down….
Von must of read my Sac bunt comment.
6-0 Dork in the top of the 3rd
man, we just can’t get it going. At least that goes for both sides.
glad to see the score is still locked at nothing lets go guys
Hey Hey cattyj… I sent D a text.. wonder if he and Stormin hugged today, and did anyone get it on film????
Holy Crap 6-0… not good. Are you gettin excited… school is almost done, Yippeee
why isn”t Stormin’ blogging from the York game?
guess he’s not as dedicated as I thought.
nooooooo
come on guys get it back
Do I hear Cow Bells in the background ????
Hey scottie missed you over the weekend
Do we have anybody up in the pen
You did hear cowbells.
I think 5 years from now we are going to find out that Stormin had been having an extensive emotional affair with the York Gladestones. We all know emotional affairs are just as bad as any. At least that’s what my wife has been saying to me for 10 years.
Wife: “Do you talk to girls at work?”
Mr B: “No Honey”
How dare they steal our cow bells !!!!
Darn New Yorkers… thievin bastards
oops.. no kids on the blogg .. right ?
Kelley – My wife found you – saw you sitting in 3 (maybe 4?), a few rows back.
I’m assuming you didn’t get the seats. Since we had Section 1, row A, seat 1 (on Saturday) with the ‘Field of Dreams’ team
would have stopped and chatted but i had 10 kids i needed to keep track of.
Where do you work Mr B
CRAP !!!!!
City Hall
they would not give in so I had to settle for sec 5 row c but I will not be there most the time Sunday I
No Scottie.. we all were seat jumping
was back out in the pen with my buddy sydney
hee hee Hi Kelley

I am cooking dinner every night this week.. enjoying time at home.. no Dr. appoints, no where to go execpt the office during the day.
I feel kind of lost
Dave, I can’t find bios on Lehigh.. I would love to know what his Dad has been up to since my/our days in Dunedin FL
My family is in shock they get home cooked food as wwll this week
York 7-0 top of the 4th
FYI – just go to the Atlantic League link Jason has on the right side and it has all the scores
Sorry, Sid. I’m not at liberty to discuss my role in government.
LETS GO STORMERS!!
A side arm thrower like Big D… cool
7-0 .. Sorry cattyj.. can you listen online to the ddddork / Crab game?
Ha Ha Mr b.. I actually have a few friends that have that status.. in D.C.
Mr. B –i work in gov’t.
i KNOW that there are no secrets. and even if there were, Jason’s comrades would reveal them.
Hope Zack can throw tommorow night with out the pb cookies
Us.. nah, we can keep a secret.. right gang??
hmmm…. almost wish I didn’t know that score!!
thanks for the update on where to find the scores though… much appreciated…. Looking foward to being at the ballpark!!! and not at school!
Kelly & Sydney – Seat jumping?!
the h*ll you say! better watch out. people here really look down on that sort of thing
Saturday was probably the only day we’ll be in our real seats all year!
I wonder if they at least waited until the 4th inning?
anyone know where our favorite usher (from section 1) last season is this year? Is he back with the ‘Stormers or did he retire?
Pat is not in sec 1 this year I have to brake in a new one. but it is all good he is a booster member.
section 1 on saturday was my math teacher in middle school. we’re good
Oh geeezzzzz, Come on Stormers !!
he is having a hip replacment. I saw the ball hogs were back
seriously – moving the birthdays from the outfield to section 1 will mean a lot more work for the usher. tons of kids, every game heading down to bug the bullpen. I don’t envy the usher. or the pitchers.
the other two nights was the fill in from last year
hey – i (and my kids) resemble that comment!
no the other two Your kids are cute
You’re right Scottie, there are no secrets in government…. except for Obamas true ambitions.
YES!!! the first 100 of the season! Whoop Whoop!!
That’s why Kelley and I sit in the pen.. we protect the pitchers form those 4 ft. tall pesky predators
i could spin a good yarn with Rendell
syd and I are the only predators allowed in the pen
Just talk to Obamas’ minister.. he will be the down fall of Obama. Hey, I wonder if he is being paid by the Hilary camp????
hummmm, Mr.b.. get right on it
Ha Ha , you mean Cougar.. ??
Wonder how I ever got that nic name last season???
ya ready to attact at any time
thats why we chair the player commity
lets see if danny can do something tonight
There was the infamous after party “flesh pile” last year with the players and….. YES GO NELSON WHOOOOO!!
lets hope that is the brake we need
LETS GO WOODS!!!
Oh thanks God.. good Job John…
Has Dominck done anything tonight???
I think he had a hit that was about it
lets go Matt you can do this
LeCroy can become a hero right now….
syd looks like we have to drive to ny to give the boys some cookies or something
I love Pepperidge Farm Goldfish, they are such an underrated baseball snack.
I can’t listen
No No mr b.
home-made goodies not store bought old gold fish… yuck!!!
How about Pepperidge farm Milano’s. BTW,Whatever happened to P.Farms capri cookie, they where great.
Comon Kelley, grow a set of nads.. don’t you dare turn our boys off
Although, your right Sydney, home made is the best.
I am not turning them off Its just Ross is in and its like you with scottie
York has 7 hits.. and 7 runs.. ouch, sorry cattyj.
Scottie did good tonight.. thank God !!
Lets hope Ross keeps this up
I can breath now
NICE JOB ROSS xxxx
dom at first that diffrent
He doesn’t have the long stretch that Ian or Ryan Minor both have… don’t think it will work.
Come on Brian.. HR time baby !!!!
OK.. we’ll take a walk too
lets hope it does not work
come on ian make it me good
come on lance be the hero
Your turn Burkie !!!
come on Jutt make us proud
wow Thats okay guys you’ll get them tommorow night
Oh well.. at least it was a close score
If we continue to get the pitching we have been getting it’s all gonna be all right!
About post #62, do you think that is how the conversation went in the Clemens household????
In case you had not heard, Clemens is reported to have a 10 year affair with Mindy McCready, a country singer. They met when she was 15. Story to follow in next post..after accepted by the moderator.
http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/yankees/2008/04/28/2008-04-28_mindy_mccready_weeps_as_she_confirms_aff.html
Barney’s right. The Barnstormers’ team ERA is 3.00 through four games. That’s a real positive in this 2-2 start.
Seems like the Rocket dared the media (and McNamee) to dig up something. And looks like they did. Roger’s star will be blemished for sure now.
How did the Revs do tonight???
They won 9-0.
Thank you, “oh great and powerful OZ”
Tough game for the Blue Crabs. York must have been saving all that energy for tonight.
I was cheering hard for the Blue Crabs. They just did’t get any breaks. It was a cold night.
On a scale from 1 to 10, Lancaster opening night festivities, a 10. Yorks was a 4. Hats off to the Barnstormer front office staff for a great opening night.
Scottie, I made a promise to my wife not to blog from the games. I go to the games to be with her so no more blogging during a game. Thanks Jason for keeping the score up to date. I was checking every now and then to see what it was. I sat next to HT. A fellow Barnstormer fan and blogger.
Hopefully we and the Blue Crabs will win tomorrow night. It was also nice to see Andy in uniform. He said he hopes to be pitching by the All Star Game.
We start again tomorrow night Stormers. One game at a time.
aren’t ‘goldfish’ made in lancaster county?
if not – then what do they make at the pepperidge farm factory in Denver?
BTW, I got Breadsticks last night. Not that I wanted them.
Stormin.. did you give a hug to someone???
No hug, but food.
I have decided when cheering for the Blue Crabs to yell “GO BLUE” (Carolina Blue). I just can’t bring myself to yell “GO CRABS”.
Sydney,
Thanks for the MG comment. ITs my toy.
I hope to make a few road games this year. However, my daughter is getting married May 24th and my other daughter is going to Europe in June, so the first half is going to be tight.
I usually listen to the best voice in the AL while we are on the road.
It is going to be a good season for the Stormers!!!!
Heh heh…ok guys, fun time is over, time to win one.
100% agreed with #110…the Lancaster staff does a great job and opening day is always memorable. I didn’t really get the point of the helicopter, but according to the poll a lot of people liked it and it was certainly memorable so whatever. From everything I’ve seen and heard, opening day and fireworks belong to Lancaster.
Hey Tom, your “other daughter” isn’t going to Europe for AMA, is she?
Yes as a matter of fact she is.
I am selling chicken bar b que tickets to help fund. This Sat. on Columbia Ave. You interested? Or anyone else?
I’m in the same boat, my son is heading across the pond for AMA also. He’s a drummer at MT. Small world sometimes.
May 24th…. 22 years ago is MY wedding anniversary.
Wherer on Columbia Ave.. I love chic babrie… count me in for 4 tics
oops.. nice spelling on barbie… ha ha.. I’m too busy cleaning to check
7.50 for dinners and 5.00 for halves.
We are setting up in the Dollar General Store parking lot near the Weavers Nut outlet.
10 to 2 pm.
My daughter sings for Hempfield
I LOVE the Weaver Nut outlet.. although I believe it changed names.. You gonna be there?
That is the ONLY andy store that sells Sugar Daddy’s… great for dental work …LOL
i will be there
OK.
Syd and crew are our favorite “seat jumpers!”
Right, Syd?
Well, Matt and John need to get their eye on the ball and start producing some hits. (Not that the rest of the squad is killed the ball tonight). Our last two games have been pitched well… Come on guys, we can’t win games w/o runs!
Let’s Go Stormers!
