Now that Barnstormin’ has boldly predicted the season won’t fall into the infinite abyss – a commentary that could live in infamy depending on how the rest of the season goes – we turn our attention to the Route 30 rivalry (weather permitting). The Barnstormers venture into the land of Breadsticks for a three-game series.
If you want take your attention away from the local team’s struggles, you can look at York’s journey so far and engage in a little schadenfreude. Things haven’t been going so well over there, either. York is 7-12, which is the second-worst record in the league, and has lost nine of its 10 road games.
Why aren’t the Revs winning? They can’t hit. They’ve scored just 72 runs in 19 games and are batting around .220 as a team. That’s poor in any league, but is especially bad in a league that belongs to the offenses. York has been outscored by 13 runs, so it’s actually faring worse than the Barnstormers. Wonder if they have any panic buttons over there.
The Barnstormers will take their fourth look at Mike Nannini, who hasn’t pitched well since his first outing against Long Island. He has allowed eight runs in 8 2/3 innings his last two times out. York counters with Aaron Myette, a former big leaguer who is trying to make a comeback after not pitching in 2006 or 2007. There’s a good story about Myette here.
An interesting quote from Von Hayes after Thursday’s loss:
At least we have the comfort of knowing, and I do say knowing, that our toughest days are behind us,” he said. “We will get better.”
This is something I should have noted in the panic button entry:
Many managers in the Atlantic League are on auto pilot. They don’t work especially hard beyond the typical daily routine. That’s not Hayes. He and the Barnstormers have spent more time focusing on fielding drills and fundamentals this season than the team has in its first three seasons combined. Hayes wants to win badly and he’s willing to put in the work to turn the team’s fortunes around. That’s another reason to expect things to improve.

FINAL: Barnstormers 12, Revolution 2
Revolution 2nd: Aspito’s fielder’s choice scores Dryer.
York leads 1-0.
Stormers 3rd: Gonzalez’s single scores Burkhart and Hileman. Bladergroen’s grand slam scores Woods, Gonzalez and Mejia.
Lancaster leads 6-1.
Stormers 4th: Hileman hits solo home run.
Lancaster leads 7-1.
Stormers 5th: Gonzalez hits solo home run. Bladergroen’s groundout scores Stavisky. Spanos’ groundout scores Mejia.
Lancaster leads 10-1.
Revs 5th: De Renne’s single scores Aspito.
Lancaster leads 10-2.
Stormers 6th: Gonzalez’s single scores Hileman. Stavisky’s sacrifice fly scores Woods.
Lancaster leads 12-2.
RECORD: 7-13
PLAYER OF THE GAME: Danny Gonzalez (4-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBIs).
The shortstop raised his batting average 46 points and nearly matched his RBI total for the season. If Gonzalez gets going, the top of this order is really dangerous. York picked the wrong K man tonight. Revs fans will have to purchase their own carbohydrates.
The pitchers:
*Mike Nannini earned his first Atlantic League win …
| 7 IP | 4 H | 2 R | 2 ER | 5 BB | 2 K |
This was Nannini’s best outing of the season. The righthander overcame some control issues by getting three double play grounders. His ERA looks a little better at 4.71. That’s four good starts in a row for Lancaster’s rotation.
*Pat Cassa pitched a scoreless inning and recorded two strikeouts.
*Mark Alexander worked the ninth. Although he walked his first batter on four pitches, he recovered from his wildness to pitch a scoreless frame.
*York’s Aaron Myette posted a line you might see in high school ball …
| 4 IP | 3 H | 7 R | 7 ER | 5 BB | 7 K |
In alumni news …
*Zack Parker made his debut for the Frisco Roughriders against the San Antonio Missions and received a no decision. He threw 91 pitches, 54 strikes …
| 5 IP | 6 H | 4 R | 4 ER | 3 BB | 4 K |
The hitters:
*Powerball …
- Ian Bladergroen’s grand slam capped a six-run third inning. The first baseman is among the league leaders with five homers and 21 RBIs. In fact, he could be alone at the top depending on what happened elsewhere Friday. He also snapped out of his road funk with a big game away from the Clip.
Gonzalez’s solo shot in the fifth ended a lengthy power drought. He hadn’t homered since Aug. 22, 2007 – a span of 159 at-bats.
Jutt Hileman homered for the second consecutive game. He went 3-for-4 with three runs scored.
*Manny Mejia, making his first appearance in the cleanup spot, went 1-for-4 with two runs scored as he extended his hitting streak to 10 games.
*Amazingly, Mike Woods’ 17-game hitting streak ended on a night the Barnstormers scored 12 runs. He went 0-for-3 with two walks and two runs. Somewhere Norm Hutchins is popping champagne.
*Matt LeCroy was activated from the DL as expected. He did not play.
*The Barnstormers broke their pattern of going 6-14 to start halves. They won for the second time in 11 road games. They have now scored 102 runs and allowed 97. This isn’t a bad team. Stay away from the red button.

The give-a-way at the game tonight is a Revolution Panic Button. Also known as a “Rally Towel”. I hope we can get the game in.
Wow, kinda like the Starship Enterprise. Boldly going where you’ve never been before. How’s it feel out on the ledge. For what it’s worth, I’ll join you. I think you’re right on. The team is going to break this streak of bad luck and bad breaks and put it together. I think Stormin ought to forget the optimism pills and work up an antitoxin for snake bite. This string of failure is coming to an end!
M&B. You will be happy to know that my daughter is dating a Michigan fan and will be going to their homecoming game in the fall. We have Oklahoma, Texas, and now Michigan jerseys in the house.
BTW, he is also a Revolution fan but she refuses to change her mind on that one. He may have to compromise and become a Stormer fan. He has already purchased a Barnstormer hat. It’s a start.
Wow Stormin. sounds like you might be planning a wedding at the Clipp in the near future
Are bloggers invited?
we’ll wear avatar name tags so we know who is whom.
No wedding yet and not for another 3 years. College first.
They may wanna rethink that. There won’t be any S.i.Y. $$ left for the wedding if college is first. Where is that young lady’s priorities?
I just watched the Lance Odem intentional walk wild pitch video again. After that, this year is not so bad so far.
“so far”…
LOL….nice disclaimer.
Well, congratulations Stormin. A little blue blood looks good in the family tree. However beware, his behavior may change on the Saturday in November that preceeds Thanksgiving. There is an exorbitant emotional level that’s reached when Michigan plays OSU. And that’s not Oklahoma State. Michigan fans can’t say that 4 letter word.
TheOSU, thank you very much!
Stormin…why do you torture yourself again and again by watching that Lance Odom video.?..let it go ..
Couldn’t have provided a better example of the arrogance of a Buckeye.
At least you spelled Buckeye right.
I guess I was right about my feeling that the Flyers would win last night. that sure was a nasty game though! I got the impression the Flyers were playing the strike and hit Pen players first and let the ref catch the retaliation. I’ve played hockey before and the coach presented it to us as a tactic, which by the way worked. That definitely was the Flyer’s game plan, which obviously worked. In my opinion it’s bad sportsmanship but hey it can win the game as we saw last night.
My gut is the Pens will win on Sunday. But Detroit will win the cup.
As for the Stormer’s OK I CONCEDE! I will give it 2 or 3 weeks and see how things progress. The bad weather/bad attendance thing does not however hold up! Remember the other teams we are playing are also playing under the same conditions.
Look at the Flyers win last night. They are without a number of their top players and they still won the the game. Stevens really showed great management skills last night with all of the line changes, HMM…I wonder if he could give Von Hayes some tips. OK I promised to behave but that was too good to pass up..LOL
I forgot.. GO BARNSTORMERS!! Kick some arse tonight!!
I will be at the game with my cow bell & mega phone. Hopefully everyone in radio & cyber land will be able to hear it.
No radio because I can’t stand listening to Darrell Henry and his sidekick. I am spoiled to Dave and 1490 does not get across the river.
Go Stormers, Beat Dork!
I think what is also not helping Vons image is that head shot they use for everything like the one above. He looks like he is ready to give it to someone real good prison style.
Yea, he kind of looks like he’s ready to face off with Eastwood in one of those Italian Westerns.
The boys in the “pen” were asking about the Lance Odem video.. apparently it was quite a hit in the locker room. I hate to say but I believe it will live on forever !!!!!
I agree Mr. B.. it looks like a nasty mug shot
I want to wish the Stormers good luck tonight! hopefully they will get the game played. I won’t be there this weekend but i will be listening and cheering for them
Geez Dawn..you can go to Newark for a game but you won’t go across the river? What IS the matter with you?
BTW, MR B, I wish your team good fortune tonite vs King James.
I know, i know. i will get to york but not this trip, i am planning on going in july and will travel across the river if i don’t get lost!! which i won’t. Cause i will come and cheer the guys on!!
Thanks M&B! They really could use a road win. At least we know they can’t loose at home (sure, you can hold me too it).
I am really hoping to see a Celtics – Lakers match up.
#25- That would be a classic. Something tells me Magic & Bird are hoping for the same thing.
Way to go Ian!!!! Grand Slam!!!
Go Stormers
The road to the Lakers is through Detroit.
Howz the game?? I can’t listen to the game cause we have company…. PLEASE update

10 to 1, manny just scored!! come on lance
Don’t check on Zack.. he had a very very long drive and it shows… wonder if he ate the cookies??
Is there a 10 run rule like in high school softball???
Can we schedule York every night ?
#46 he should eat the cookies that would give him energy! I am glad he got down there safe.
Let’s hope Michael continues his streak here!
Yeah!! 11 to 2!!! Hileman scored!!!
woo hoo!!!!
12 to 2
12-2 now…wahoo
Holy cow! Let’s go Ian! Drive in some more…nothing wrong with being a little greedy!
Looks like Zac KKKK is starting to settle down now…
12-2.. Now come on.. save some for tomorrow boys !!!!
What just happened to the radio?
I lost the online connection…
so did I…I had to go to the York feed
Good Idea True… miss ya Dave
It’s so nice to heard the york announcers say that “the score would make you “. Ha Ha LOL !!!
NOT IF YOUR A STORMER FAN !!
Yes, but we have to teach them how to say Lancaster
Hey Rad, glad to see that Zack’s team is winning. I hope he does well, i started listening to that
Hey all, Dave is back!
Got LanKISSter back on the air
Rad, I am SO jealous if you are goin to the game tomorrow nite. I can’t change my plans for tomorrow. Oh, well. I will be rooting for the guys!!! Hopefully i will be able to get some updates, can you text me?
Dopey.. I’m also tracking the Scranton Yankees.. I need a few more laptops just for baseball
Rad, did your company leave?
how’s scott doing?
YES… they went home. we’re neighbors so they KNOW me…baseball first .. don’t worry basemom7, those who know me know.. baseball rules, and in football season.. football rules. Right now I have to throw Ice Hockey in the mix too.
Did Michael get a hit yet tonight?
Patty has a 3.00. I bet he’ll throw tonight. SWB just started game 2 of a double header.. Parker is looking GOOD out there.
No, Michael didn’t have a hit yet
We’d have to get some guys on base in order for him to get another at bat.
hey rad did you hear anything yet
NOPE
what the heck.. I just turned the game on what got into the boys tonight
Chili powder baby.. they are HOT
I thought Sandy Aracena played for the Ducks last year. He is a decent player. Did he traded to the revs for the player never to be named later???
what did you make brownies loaded with chil powder
To busy to bake today… Maybe Sunday
lets hope this is the begining of a great road trip
WOW!!!! I’m jealous I wasn’t there to see it in person!
Congratulations Barnstormers and Congratulations Barnstormers bullpen. Nice game!!!
Aracena played for York, Bridgeport and the Road Warriors last season.
Sorry that Woody’s streak ended, but wow, what a game!
Nice job guys!
oh boy, Zack’s ERA is 7.20 already. Hang in there, bud!
Yes, Congrats to the team! This was a well needed win!
Thanks, Jason. I misremembered like Andy Pettitte.
Mike Woods just has to start a new streak. Go Mike!!
game was awesome but very cold! i loved matt’s bleach blond hair. maybe it will help with his hitting when he is back to playing.
Way to go Guys!!!! Keep up this momentum this road trip!!! Wish i could have been there tonight!!!
Good win fellas! Let’s string some together!
What a game. Thanks Danny, everyone in York is doing the Atkins Diet thanks to you. And Ian’s Grand Slam, what a stroke. No about it when it left the bat.
This was a different Barnstormer Team than I saw on Thursday. The hitters hit and the pitchers pitched. It was cold, wet, & windy. Fealt more like football weather than baseball.
Looking forward to tonight and another win. Go Stormers.
BTW, if you come to a York game, bring cow bells. The fans don’t like them.
I got some very nasty looks last season when I would ring the bell… Ha HA can’t wait till Sunday’s game !!!
Zack ended with a 7.20 last night, not bad for a guy who just spent two very long days driving cross country.
We wish you all the best Zack.
“In his RoughRiders debut, starter Zack Parker…”
Looks like he told them how to spell his name.
Matt’s new hair color was a shock. Hopefully it is the thing that helps him crush the ball.
