Jason Scobie 0-0, 0.00 ERA |
| Ryan Bicondoa 8-4, 4.15 ERA |
|---|
The Barnstormers will get their first look at Jason Scobie as a starter tonight. The righthander, signed shortly before the first game of the second half, has made two relief appearances. He hasn’t allowed a run in 3 1/3 innings.
Scobie has been successful as a starter in the past. The righthander went 15-7 with a 3.34 ERA in 27 games at Triple-A Norfolk in 2005, which was the best season of his eight-year pro career.
The Barnstormers’ rotation could use a boost. It has needed a fifth starter since D.J. Mattox was sent to the bullpen — and later released — after struggling and dealing with shoulder soreness.
Scobie has a lifetime 3.76 ERA and opponents have only hit .265 against him. He started this season in the Korea Baseball Organization, which is a high level of baseball. There are a lot of reasons to be optimistic about his chances of helping this pitching staff.

Box score:
RECORD: 4-5 (34-45)
PLAYER OF THE GAME: Patrick Osborn
If you were to hold a vote for best player left in the league, Osborn would be in the running along with Long Island’s Ray Navarrete, Somerset’s Brandon Larson and Camden’s Nic Jackson. Osborn isn’t a huge power guy with only 11 homers in 76 games, but he is an RBI machine. He has driven in 75 runs.
NOTES:
*Jason Scobie had a strong first start:
| 5 IP | 4 H | 2 R | 2 ER | 3 BB | 4 K |
Scobie displayed excellent stuff for a starting pitcher in this league. His fastball hit 91 and he featured a deep variety of offspeed pitches. The righthander looks like he’s going to be a huge plus going forward. This rotation is good enough to win the division.
*Matt LeCroy extended his hitting streak to 12 games with a single in the first inning.
*Ivanon Coffie made his first start since June 30. He was out with a sprained wrist and now appears to be relegated to a part-time role. Coffie went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles. He reached base three times.
*Jutt Hileman missed his second consecutive start with a bruised elbow. He entered in the seventh inning as a pinch runner and scored the tying run.
*The Barnstormers are 5-6 in extra-inning games this season. They dropped the final two in this series.
*Lineup watch: Lloyd Turner got his first start in CF and was put back in the leadoff spot. Juan Francia was dropped to the No. 9 slot. Francia went hitless in five at-bats and is 7-for-49 this month.
BOTTOM LINE:
Although it sounds redundant at this point, the Barnstormers just don’t have enough offense. The starting pitching was stellar in this series – seven earned in 19 1/3 innings – and the team still dropped two of three. Lancaster left 11 men on base in the first seven innings Sunday night. The good news? No one in the Freedom Division has a winning record.

Thanks Jason, for the always interesting insights.
If any thing Von knows talent. Perry, Stavisky, Spano and Josh Hall. Is there an award for losing the most players to affilated teams.
Emily, nice meeting you Saturday night. Thanks for following up. Great service!
If I do say so my self, the ribs I am about to take to the players are awesome! I just had to sample one……ok two. Even though I don’t know any of you on this blog, I will see you tonight! Go stormers!
Great for all the players that got picked up and are doing good.
Gonna be another hot one at The Clipp, for sure!
It’s nice having someone who can track these players so we, “the common folk,” can keep up on their careers. Thank you, Jason, I appreciate it!
Not sure if mom and I will be at the park or not this evening. This heat plays havoc with our bodies. I can just imagine how hot it’s going to be down on the field, especially on that dirt infield.
We thinking that we should all just bring lawn chairs and sit under the mezzanine. We could catch the breezes that filter through, even a warm breeze would be better than no breeze at all!
We almost had them last night. Let’s regroup and give Scobie his first win as a Barnstormer starter.
We are still in a three way tie for first place. Let’s blow this thing wide open and take a commanding lead!
Let’s Go Stormers!

biglew 74, Thanks from the player liaison committee.
Can a Crab go over to the Stormer locker after the game and enjoy some of the goodies???
As long as they bring there on butter…lol Sure should be plenty to go around. Ms. Lew and I dropped off a bunch of goodies last night. So the basket is full as well.
anyone out there? I want to hear some cowbells!
Say it ain’t so! Another 10th inning loss and DePriest gets both wins in less than four innings pitch.
We need to move players in scoring position. We stranded too many tonight… way too many!
We making mental errors that can be corrected. The Barnstormers are smart players and I know we have a potential to play a lot better and with more consistency.
’nuff said!
Let’s Go Stormers!

p.s. Who saw the guy in Section 8 pour the end of his beer onto the fellow in the front row. Not Cool… no way, no how! Kudos to the fan/victim for keeping his cool. I spoke to I.M. Fun and he went down to speak with the fan/victim. Thanks, Jeff for showing that you cared!
I hope someone can track that fellow down and keep him out of the stadium. That sort of behavior is childish and uncalled for.
Guess what the ordeal was over… sitting in the wrong seats. The fan/victim told me that they had asked the fellow if he wanted to change seats THREE times and the guy refused.
We don’t need fans like that at The Clipp!
basemom7, I got to all three games this weekend. Ian looks great at first base. Except for a couple of miscues in the first game, he looked great at first base. He made a a few nice catches on a couple of high throws. Nice job this weekend Ian.
And the double down the right field line was real nice. Welcome back.
I want to say nice job to Von Hayes on pulling Matt and having Jutt run for him. I thought it was a little gutsy pulling his bat out of the lineup, but we needed that run that Jutt scored. Matt hit the ball nicely all weekend, but he would not have scored on the hit to short.
Matt seem to hit the ball hard all night, just no luck on those long fly balls.
I agree that it was a good coaching move on bringing Jutt in as a pinch runner for Matt. Jutt had a great slide home and avoided the tag. He got the job done. We definitely needed that run.
I notice Von and Matt discussing this move before it was made and Matt was all for it. What a show of “team” by Matt. No hesitation on his part.
Our lineup tonight had 11 hits, but we stranded 12 runners. We need to concentrate on bettering this stat as we move on into the second half.
The stranding runners in scoring position has been a curse for the team all season…it just continues from previous years. We had plenty of opportunity to win this game tonight…we just didnt cash in.
Hey, This ship can still be turned around in a hurry. Let’s cut some dead weight (to free up money if we need to) and sign a hitter to a max deal.
I agree totally. There are several Pitchers seeing little or no action. Time to pare down the Roster and get some Position players.
