Mike Woods is on such a hot streak that he can accomplish something even when the Barnstormers get rained out. The outfielder was formally named the Atlantic League’s player of the month for August on Saturday.
Woods became the first Lancaster player to ever receive this honor. Reggie Taylor didn’t do it. Neither did Jeremy Todd . Josh Stevens shared pitcher of the month recognition with Matt Sweeney (remember him?) in May of 2007.
It was nice to see Woods’ performance get noticed. Players on losing teams can sometimes be lost in the shuffle. The former first-round pick batted .385 with nine homers and 23 RBIs in 27 games last month. He also contributed six doubles and four stolen bases.
As for today, the Barnstormers are playing their first doubleheader since May 28 and one of two doubleheaders over the final 15 days. Among the highlights will be the debut of righthander Monte Mansfield, who was signed last week out of the Golden League..
The Barnstormers have added several players from the St. George Roadrunners because manager Von Hayes is friends with Cory Snyder, who manages that club. This connection could become similar to the Gateway-to-Lancaster connection we’ve seen in years past and earlier this season.l
ROSTER MOVE: The Barnstormers signed OF Ryan Stevenson. He batted .348 with 18 homers and 70 RBIs with St. George of the Golden League. OF Jordan Herr was released.

This was announced Friday night as Mike went up to bat. It was nice to see him get a little standing ovation. Not everyone noticed or heard on Friday but it is a great accomplishment for him.
Congrats to Mike! He certainly does deserve this honor!
Nice day for baseball
Lets go guys
Good luck today guys!!!
Swept both ends…nice wins! Way to go!
Sabatella looks like a keeper.
Good luck Jordan! I appreciated your hustle.
Way ta bring ‘er home Boys ! Always a good sign when we get Ryan Cullen on the mound.
York looses both games, Newark looses both games. We have some new blood on the team. It’s not over till it’s over. That’s my motto.
We take 2 of 3 from LI and 3 of 4 from SMD. Camden, watch out, the boys are back.
I know Bryan is wearing #34, but he really reminds me from, his stance and swing, like a Jeremy Todd from the other side of the plate.
I noticed Bryan wearing #34, but I didnt want to bring it up. I didnt know if anyone cared deeply about that.
I think we should bring Harriger back and retire his number. It would be fun.
Stormin, never could kick that optimism pill habit, could you??
GO Stormers!!!!
I think today puts Lancaster 4 1/2 GB. Stormin’, if your rosy thinking was right, next year’s pills are on me. I was especially impressed with pitching today, Kent in particular. He’s really improved of late.
Personally, between the crabs, games, chit chat and picnic, today was probably the best time I’ve had at the stadium since 2006.
Kent has looked good lately. He’s also got a nice pickoff move.
The organization deserves credit for their recent personnel moves and the team deserves credit for executing on the field. Great double header sweep!
Great Day any way you cut it. A sweep….a nice Picnic…great company…great weather…..Perfecto….
Even had a nice conversation with Mr. Danos at the picnic.
Maybe the “Fat Lady” has another chorus in her. If we Pitch like we did the last week, this thing may NOT be over.
BTW: Matt said a Double & a WP is his kind of Triple..
GO STORMERS!!!!!
Yeah, it was funny seeing Matt “steal” a base. We got a real kick out of it in our section. I love watching him laugh, even when he almost got beaned by a pitch. He looks to be having a great time playing his game.
I noticed Kent’s pickoff move a few nights ago when he did it twice. Good stuff. I was also impressed with Mansfield. At one point I turned and said “I have no idea who Mansfield is but I like him”. Perhaps just as impressive was how quickly the dugout responded to possible problems on the mound and how it paid off when Evil Rleal took to the mound.
Hayes getting thrown out was also a nice touch. I yelled smack at the umps for the rest of the day and got a rise out of one. Yeah, good times.
I had a very nice time today. Thanks to the guys for the signing before the game and thanks for the chat at the picnic. Nice to meet the new players. Matt makes me laugh.
Again thanks guys.
Great Job Guys!!!
Way to go Bryan!!!
Good luck on the road!!!!
See ya when you come back home!!!
Great job to Monte, Kent and of course Cullen!!
great win today guy. Looks like you can not write to boys of summer off just yet. How sweet would that be if it came down to the last game at home. Good luck In Camden. See ya back at the clip Friday.
Good luck to Jordan Herr maybe we will see you back later in your pro career. Great set of games today, enjoyed the games, the food and picnic afterwards. Welcome to Lancaster to all the new guys.
It was nice to see Boots out on the field today! I miss him terribly.
Best of luck Jordan
Not your fault Jordan. You’ve got some talent and should still try the Frontier League next year.
Unfortunately, it appears that older brother Aaron is about to be released too. Maybe he’ll end-up in Lancaster next year!
Southern- I just hope that there is at least one Herr here next year. That’s if he would like to be afiliated with this organization. I’ve got my doubts that Jon Danos can swallow his pride and admit that they made a mistake this year. Anyway…. I wish all of the Herr’s well. They are very generous people.
I will be out of town the next two weekends — and thought Sunday’s double header was my last chance to see the 2008 Stormers and enjoy a day at the Clip. If it was, what a wonderful way to go out. Tremendous effort, Stormers! Just great baseball to watch.
Couldn’t ask for more entertaining baseball. Had a big smile on my face as I left the ballpark and walked down Prince Street — and a bit of a tear in my eye realizing another baseball season is coming to a close. If you guys make up the ground on York, it will be an absolute pleasure to come out to the Clip for the playoffs. Good luck on the road trip to Camden!
wow tgb, you brought a tear to my eyes.
