AtlanticLeagueBaseball.com has the scoop about the Newark Bears ceasing operations. If the team is not saved, this creates some obvious issues. The Atlantic League would need an eighth team, leading to the unfortunate possibility of the Road Warriors returning and 18 mostly non-competitive games being added to the schedule.

The Atlantic League wants to put a franchise in Richmond, Va., which lost the Triple-A Braves following last season. The city, it seems from afar, prefers an affiliated team. The proposed solution? An AL preview in 2009 with no strings attached.
