Eric Junge is the best strikeout pitcher in the history of the Barnstormers. That’s not hyperbole. He has matched the single-game record for Ks twice in four starts and has 34 in 26 innings. The franchise record for a season is 97, set by Ricardo Gomez last year. Junge will breeze past that total if he stays here the rest of the season, although that seems unlikely.
Since its inception last season, Southern Maryland has the second-best record in the Atlantic League behind Somerset. Still, the Barnstormers have fared well in this rivalry. They are 13-11 against the Blue Crabs, including a 3-1 mark in 2009.
The fans have spoken. They voted Scott Patterson the best closer in team history. I’m inclined to agree. His batting average against in 2006 was .163. That’s ridiculous. If you don’t give up hits, you won’t blow saves. This is the kind of keen analysis Lancaster Newspapers will be missing next week.
As many of you know, today is my final day at LNP. I’ll continue to post game threads on here as long as people are interested in commenting about the team. Hopefully, we’ll have enthusiastic comments that aren’t disparaging or insulting to others. That’s when this site is at its best.

Touching on the issue of errors with the “Left Side”! For the record if you were to look at the statistics, the right side of the infield for the most part will always have less errors than the left side. The right side of the infield is actually not as demanding and challenging. You have plenty of time to make up for balls that are booted, the throw is shorter, and you don’t have to be as aggressive. Not saying that it’s easy but it’s not as challenging. It’s been 59 games and there have been plenty of great plays made on the left side by Turner and Herr. Most of Turners errors have not been fielding errors and have also been tough plays. For the most part he makes the routine plays and turns some hits into outs. For a guy who can play every position on the field above average, he is good. As for Herr he has his days. Either way playing 59 games and making 10 or 14 errors still is not bad as it seems. Next time don’t look at the fact that these guys are making errors, look at the type of errors they are making. If they are making mental errors, sure we have a right to be upset. But anytime a player is being aggressive and errors, it’s all a part of the game. Again this is a pros perspective!
Jason,
Thanks for keeping the blog and thread going.
You are the fairest reporter I have ever know.
Good luck see you at the Clip.
Go Stormers……
They don’t realize what they are loosing. We do. Keep blogging and keep it clean.
Jason… You know how I feel about your sports reporting. I’ve always enjoyed reading your analysis of team situations in the newspaper. I know, in time, that you will succeed elsewhere.
I lost a job at a very young age (post college) and I know how terrible it feels. I felt defeated for quite sometime, but I also knew I had plenty of time to control my future. You are a bright and talented young man. I have faith that you will also move on and be successful.
Thank you for posting this blog and for keeping fans like us in the loop. I, for one, have certainly appreciated your time and efforts.
Eric Junge is a very talented pitcher and becoming a major strike out force in the AL. I was listening to last night’s game a heard him get out of a tough inning that included another fielding error!
I swear we are on an error per game run and it needs to improve. I can’t remember a Barnstormer’s team that I had more concerns about fielding than this one.
Our first season (2005), Travis Hake started at shortstop (out of position) and was on an early roll. But Danny Gonzales (Reading Phils) came to town, Travis moved to second, and we had a decent middle infield the rest of the season.
I’m a firm believer that great ballplayers make average players better. We need a great infielder on the left side and we may see a tremendous improvement in the others play… may.
Hang in there, Jason. Thank you for keeping the blog running for now.

I don’t know that I can add anything more about Jason’s reporting than has already been said. LNP cannot have any idea what they are losing. I have never met you, but certainly have appreciated your reporting and running of this blog. You are a class act and I thank you.
Mike
hERRor dropped a little league pop up in the grass between home and third-hardly a tough chance. Besides, most of his errors are throwing the ball in the dirt or into the crowd at first base.
Most people have here like I have seen hERRor make little or no effort on the “tough” balls hit his way.
I agree with the Turner comments though.
RFoster to HOF.
I looked back in the past two years at the left side errors. In 2007 Danny G. played 122 games and had 21 errors in those games, Steve Van Note played 78 games and had 14 errors. In 2008 Ivanon Coffee played 61 games and had 18 errors and Lloyd played 62 games at 3rd with only 12 errors. Danny played 107 games with 19 errors. This season Lloyd has played short stop with 56 games and 10 errors, I am not sure if he was playing ss for all games but Aaron has played only 44 games and has accumulated 14 errors. Steve, who was lambasted by everyone played 78 games with as many errors and it was posted by many that he did not belong in that position, he seems to have played much better than the AAA Herr. Lloyd is about par with Danny G. at SS and that is not his ‘natural”position, so I am impressed with Lloyd’s accomplishments. We do have a pretty good team, and when they play as a team you can see what can be a great team being built. I hope the team gets another win on the road!
Thank you Jason.
And Congrats to Scott P… I’m sure he’ll be reading this tonight
Ah, I will ammend my post, that is 15 errors as of now.
Lancaster catcher gives up stolen base with left-handed pitcher on the mound. Terrible defensive catching, but hey they can hit.
What happened to Scott P? Did he get called up?
Revs win two straight against the Patriots.
Scott got called up a few years ago.
Jason,
Thanks for the great run. I have looked forward to your posts daily. It has made the difference in attending games and really following the team. There is no other media out there that has done the team justice like you have.
Again, good luck in your future endeavors. Your next big break might just be around the corner.
Thanks, Packmule
Patterson has a 2.38 ERA in triple A Portland, San Diego Padres.
Jason,
You will definitely be missed. You have made following the ‘Stormers from 5 states away easy and enjoyable. I don’t know what LNP think they’re doing, but they’ll regret it, and it won’t take ‘em long. I think maybe by late next week, they’ll realize they lost one of the best minor-league analysts I’ve ever read. Please do keep up the blog! I don’t know what I’d do without it. It’s been brilliant!
I enjoyed reading Jason’s columns, but now he has a chance to, maybe, move on to a biger and better place to work.

why was Bill ejected from the game last night? i missed it watching lance play…
Arguing balls and strikes….thats normally what pitching coaches get tossed for…probably felt his pitchers weren’t getting the same calls as the Southern Md pitchers.
