Ricardo Gomez 1-1, 6.75 ERA |
| Jason Standridge 0-2, 9.35 ERA |
|---|
The ghost of Lance Odom was revived at the Clip Monday night. This time it was Tip Fairchild throwing the pitch, Jed Morris scoring from home and the Barnstormers celebrating a bizarre extra-inning victory.
What are the odds the same two teams could be involved in a game-winning wild pitch on an intentional walk in the span of two years? Roughly the same as publisher’s clearinghouse showing up at your door with a giant novelty check. But it happened and it was another reminder that anything is possible on the diamond.
In other news:
*UT David Housel was activated from the disabled list and INF Dan Williams was released. Williams was 1-for-10 during his emergency fill-in stint with the Barnstormers. He walked five times.
*P Antonio Alfonseca retired all six batters he faced in his Clip debut. If you combine his numbers with newcomer Nick Abel’s, you get six shutout innings with three hits allowed. The revamped bullpen looks good so far.
*This is Gomez’s fourth start. The righthander is 0-1 with a 5.25 ERA in that role this season. Standridge has appeared in 80 games in the big leagues with the Reds and Royals. He is 3-9 with a 5.80 ERA at that level.
*The Barnstormers are 19-3 in their last 22 home games.

Except for Neal Mussers 4 walks facing nine batters and Camacho ruining a quality start for Zack..yeah I guess you could say the revamped bullpen looks good so far?
I left a comment the other day and it never posted. I just moved into the area and wanted to know what the stadium is like. I’m moving from Albuquerque New Mexico and love going to ballgames. Just wanted to get an idea on ticket prices, promotions and what the food is like. Thanks!
Camacho is not part of the revamped bullpen. He has been here all season and has pitched pretty well. Last night, he gave up the lead. It happens. I think of Musser as a starter-in-waiting, although it’s possible he could remain in the pen.
Okay… I must be out in right field on this one (baseball pun intended), but…
We have a two run lead, our first two batters get on base with NO outs. Up comes Danny Bravo and he HITS AWAY.
What’s Danny doing and why did Von call for it? What did he do? He hits into the third double play of the night!
Call me stupid, but why didn’t he bunt the runners over? It would move the runners and disturb the double play scenario. Oh, one can say, they could walk the next batter to return the double play, but I would rather see three runners on base with one out than what we ended up with… Nothing, again!
When the Patriots did the same thing in the bottom of the 8th, Sparky had his hitter squaring off. However, he had to notice that the outfield was slowly creeping in and gave the hit away sign. They executed it perfectly, knocked the ball over Woods’ head, and tied the game.
Folks, I don’t blame Michael one bit on that play. He was doing what the coaches asked him to do. He wasn’t the only outfielder who had moved in dangerously close to the infield… Nope, all three were creeping up. Michael just happened to have the ball hit hard in his direction. It could have been any of the other two, for sure. The worse part was that it was in the open field of center and rolled allowing a double and 2 RBI’s.
I see Somerset as a team that can execute plays when asked to do so. Look at the hit and runs they had going last night… I love that type of coaching. Make the other team make the mistakes and take full advantage of every one!
We’ll be back at the stadium tonight, if the storms stay away. Looking forward to seeing the Philly Phanatic doing his thing… I hope our ‘Big Cylo’ is dressed tonight. They’ll be a riot together.
We held Joe Burke to 4 SO’s (not sure what he did on his 5th AB) and Zach worked extremely hard to keep Josh Pressley at bay. I liked seeing that! He’s a premier player in the AL and we did a good job containing him last night! (I also like the Viva Las Vegas (Elvis) and Hey Joe (Hendricks) music last night… Guys up stairs… people do actually notice that stuff and we have good chuckles. keep it up!
Go Stormers!

I can’t blame Woods for following instructions…heavens no. Why Comacho was left in the game after letting the 1st 2 guys on base …and NOBODY THROWING IN THE BP…was inexcusable. Comacho is NOT our go-to guy. We certainly have enough BP to keep these guys on a short leash….Alphonseca is the only one out there that I would give some latitude to.
We were damn lucky to get a win last night!
Zack Parker is the best 0-1 pticher in this league. It is a shame he does not get any bull pen help.
I heard on the radio that Junge might be going. What is the scoop on that?
Yes, I will give Somerset credit for being able to put a Team together….it sure seems odd how Pressley and Hagen can put up those #’s and not get signed……if we had those guys…they would be OUTTA HERE!! in a NY minute..
So, what’s the deal? They are both only 29yo…..I don’t get it!!
Revamped bullpen to me means the entire bullpen. Not just 2 guys who are new to the bullpen.
Parker may also be going soon. Scouts were charting him behind home plate last night.
Pressley was with the Marlins and Astros in spring training the past two years and was released. He doesn’t really have a defensive position, which doesn’t help his value, but he can rake (obviously). Hagen, for whatever reason, has only played four games above A ball. That hurts his chances of getting signed. The longer you’re out of affiliated ball, the tougher it is to get back. Pressley and Hagen have been out since ‘06.
The unsung hero for Somerset is Olivares, who is hitting .325 and is a pretty good defensive shortstop.
Word on the street about Eric Junge is that he’ll be leaving to play in South Korea (?). As of last evening, that’s the rumor spreading quickly through the stands .
Man, I’m not sure I’d want to be anywhere near S. Korea right now.
I assume most of us here didn’t expect Eric to stay around too long with the year he’s been having (1.73 ERA, Opp. Avg. .212).
If the rumors hold true… Good luck Eric. Your 4-1 W/L record was the best we had on the current roster. Hang tough and make it big!

It’s ashame when a player voices how they feel they are put on the bench.
Can we please stick to baseball and not gossip. Thank you. I am concerned about the last two outings that Camacho had. Thoughts anyone?
Kelley, if you’re talking Foster, he’s hitting .180 with one extra base hit in 54 AB’s. He’s had his chance and his hitting has actually deteriorated during the past 6-7 games. It’s time for the “Q” to retire and for the Barnstormers to move on. The Mexican League knew what they were doing this spring.
If you weren’t talking about Foster, sorry.
Jack:
I think if you are going to accuse someone of posting “gossip” you should specificaly state which post you are talking about.
Also, have you reported your complaint to Jason? If not, I encourage you to do so. Let’s all leave the moderating of others posts to Jason.
Personally, I think all the posts tonight were interesting and appropriate. If not, I trust in Jason to handle it in the way he sees fit.
Oh no do not say anything about anyone on here.. talk about who is hitting and who is not .. Unless it is arron then you can bash him.. I think I heard barnstormer fans will defend Von till the end..
Maybe those on here should just ask a player how baseball life is this year… Do not be shy just step up and ask then write on here..
I enjoy going to games to watch the players PLAY ball. I want to see the players PLAY ball well. The players that PLAY ball well will be rewarded with PLAY. As you can see the players that PLAY well and have been brought together given a chance and taken it have been rewarded. Good luck to you Eric, it is good to see you move forward.
Jack that is not gossip it was a fact. If you complain in the dugout about the way things are going then you get benched. So do not jump on people before you know the facts.
If I complain about the way things are at work, I get fired. Same thing. We all get the point on here that Von is “so terrible” to work for and that “everyone” is so unhappy. If they don’t like the boss, quit. That simple. I am not going down this road again.
Just for everyones understanding, I am not attacking anyone. I am attacking any post that is not about the “game” of baseball, but about the “soap opera” of baseball.
I do not care what is said in the pullpen, in the dugout, or in a host families home. I CARE about what goes on when they they say “Play Ball”. That simple.
If someone wants to start their own blog and discuss “the behind the scene” items, go for it. But please, not on here. That is all I ask.
Jason, if you want to delete this post I will understand and will not be offended.
I agree with you Jack. At this point..whether these are “facts” or rumors or gossip whatever you want to call it..it has no place here. I care about the game itself..what goes on between the lines on the field.
I am not attacking anyone here either…I just think that if you can’t talk about the game itself…well I just don’t think the majority on here want to hear those type of comments.
Oh and if you are talking about Quincy…he is not producing. Maybe its coincidence if he was “benched”..but just because he is a “fan favorite” does not mean that he should be playing all the time if he is not producing. He’s been in the game long enough to know that. He is not owed any playing time.
I was not a fan of them bringing him back…and I have really seen nothing to prove to me that it was a good move. Here again I am not attacking anyone…its just my opinion.
Not to change the subject of the post before this one but did York sign PJ Rose over the weekend. I was looking at the Atlantic League transactions and it is listed there.
Go Stormers tonight.
One other thing. When is the last day of the first half.
Thanks everyone. Like you all, have a good Holiday weekend.
Yes, York did sign PJ Rose.
Last I looked Jimmy Rollins was on the bench for a few games and he is a former MVP.
Excellent post Jack. I guess the next thing we can complain about is Alphoneseco sitting in someone’s spot on the bullpen bench. Let’s play ball and win tonight.
Alfonseca. I have heard too many people saying Alfonseco already this week..including the radio collar man. Geez.
Amen Jack, Amen!!
no but we will complain about alphoneseco signing during a game and all the little kids that stand in the way so you can not see the game. He is a nice guy but somebody needs to tell him to sign before and after.
Hey now if you can not talk about baseball then do not say anything.. so you few people left on here you bash the radio man, you bash alot of players that do not play up to what you call a ball player. Hm I guess if it is from the click on here it is ok to say what you want .. The rest of us need not say aword… got it….
Like it or not they are here to play ball and have friends…
The booster club or a Barnstormers fan club should build a blog site for gossip, rumor mongering and talking about how cute the player are and how nice they are to speak with. We can have another blog site for baseball and evaluations. I for one do not need to know about players personal lives, I have enough of my own personal life that I do not need or want to know how they feel.
I am not trying to be mean or pick on someone but if you pass on what you heard it is gossip and rumor mongering. If a player was chosen to sit out he should not voice that to fans and fans should not post it for public to see. I do not want the player in trouble for venting his feelings and having them blurted out all over a blog space. Without mentioning names a coach or “mean” manager can hold it against the player and he could use his imagination as to who it is.
That said, are player procurement has done well in elavating players to a higher level this year. It would have been nice to keep them but I am happy the guys have gotten another chance for making a name.
Oops, I meant our not are in the player procurement.
collar man?
Here we go again…. bashing anyone who is part of the LBBBC, friends and families of players, or a host family. Maureen you are assuming everyone who posts particular types of comments must be part of the LBBBC, good friend of a player, families of players or a host family. What is your problem with these categories of fans/bloggers? So am I to assume that anyone who posts something bad can’t be one of these people and tell them to get their own blog. One one comes to mind – ridiculous.
So how is the weather at the staduim?
No I am suggesting a baseball site and a fan site. Two different sites, one for baseball talk and one for fan talk. Since Kelley passes on things said to her by players and Kelley is part of the booster club it would seem easier for the Booster club to sponser a site about the players and leave the site Jason wants to discuss baseball open for baseball discussions. I really do think two sites would help end the problems of people getting offended by discussions about how players play and how players feel.
Maureen, First you have not right to assume that what I post is said by a player. For all you know a player could be posting under my name.. I would not post anything that would hurt a player or that was private. So before you assume something get the facts straight. You can keep the booster club out of this they have nothing to do with it.
The booster club is not a fan club. They stand behind the team and do what ever they can do to make these boy’s feel at home.
Amen Maureen. Thanks you for posting that.
Kelley, You win. You can keep your “boys” and your blog. I am finished. Enjoy your mediocre results from your mediocre expectations.
Maureen… PLEASE continue to post here. Your insights are very interesting to read. I know I enjoy them more than some.
Please be advised that comments made by individuals on here do not reflect the beliefs and mission of the Lancaster Barnstormers Baseball Booster Club.
