The Barnstormers have signed Atlantic League veteran Vic Gutierrez. The 5-9, 170-pound infielder last played for Newark last season. He batted .301 with no homers and 22 RBIs in 65 games. Gutierrez, 31, resides in Harrisburg and drove down to Clipper Magazine Stadium for a workout Wednesday afternoon. He was signed today after the team lost Quincy Foster and Danny Bravo to injury. Gutierrez has played second base, shortstop and third base in his career. He’s active for tonight.
Gutierrez’s career stats are here.

*A couple of former Barnstormers OF were released: Reggie Taylor by Sioux Falls and Rodney Medina by Shreveport-Bossier. Both of those teams are in the American Association. What’s interesting about these transactions is both players were hitting at .330 or better when they were released. Neither of those teams were in contention, so this could be a money issue.
*Former Barnstormers SS Mike Caruso has signed with Newark.

Interesting releases…Taylor, if not too “big” for us, would be an upgrade over Foster. When Bravo gets healthy, how about Gutierrez to SS and Turner to 3rd? Let Herr DH. That should definitely improve the infield defense.
On another note, nothing cures a losing streak like a series against York. Here’s hoping for a sweep!
Gutierrez also has seemed to be a formidable foe when playing for the oppostion. Welcome, Vic.
I am not giving up on Quincy yet. The man can still bunt with the best of them and that adds for some excitement. I would think his hitting for average will come around. He adds more excitement to the diamond that Mulhern.
And I still think the team needs to add some excitement to the lineup.
Nice game by Aaron Herr and thank goodness.
Campbell and Turner both swung at balls out of the strike zone and let the pitcher off the hook late in the game with the bases loaded that could have cost the Barnstormers a game. With Daves comment about Campbell hitting ground balls, I guess it was good that Turner got an at-bat in this situation. This team has got to get men home, especially when they sit in scoring position in order to have a good 2nd half.
Did the Lancaster catcher throw any base runners out tonight? I missed the first 3-4 innings.
Housel is solid when playing middle infield.
The Revs have no hitting right now and could be swept by the Barnstormers this weekend. It’s shaping up that the second half winner will probably be the team with the best defense and pitching.
What happens if Somerset wins the 2nd half? Does the 2nd half-2nd place team in their division quality for the playoffs? I guess I need to read the rules book.
Great Herr night.. He was robbed of those two home runs..
I agree kelley.. He wanted them so bad too.
Maybe today his is day
