UPDATE: P Trey Hodges has been activated from the disabled list and will be available in the bullpen tonight.
*INF Vic Gutierrez is in the lineup batting ninth and playing SS tonight. This will be his Barnstormers debut.
*Former Barnstormers P Charlie Weatherby has been signed by the Astros and was assigned to Double-A Corpus Christi.
RECORD OVERALL: 30-33
VS. REVOLUTION: 6-1
Thursday night was a perfectly constructed win for the Barnstormers. Eric Ackerman pitched seven strong innings. Aaron Herr hit two doubles. Lloyd Turner made two terrific plays at shortstop. Antonio Alfonseca closed the door for his first Atlantic League save.
It was a pretty good formula for long-term success:
-
*Strong starting pitching
*Better infield defense
*Power from the middle of the order
*A good closer
Ackerman’s record belies his performance this season. Because of a lack of run support, he’s only 3-5. But his ERA is 3.34, which ranks 10th in the Atlantic League. Seven of his 11 starts have been quality starts. The lefty gives his team an excellent chance to win almost every time out.
Herr launched two long fly balls that would have been home runs in a lot of ballparks, and may have been homers if the wind cooperated Thursday night. The Barnstormers are looking to deepen their lineup as the second half approaches. More production from Herr and the return of L.J. Biernbaum, who took batting practice Thursday for the first time since going on the disabled list, will help in that effort.
Alfonseca converted his second save chance. The righthander has the confidence of a closer from his time in the big leagues. He and Nick Abel have combined to pitch nine innings with one earned run allowed since their arrival at the all-star break.
Another item from Thursday night: Former Barnstormer Shane Youman looked great for York. The lefty pitched five shutout innings and allowed four hits. He appeared to have more zip on his fastball than he had last season.
PITCHING MATCHUP: Jason Scobie is 1-3 with a 9.71 ERA in eight starts this season. Corey Thurman, who made the All-Star team last month, has made one start against the Barnstormers this season. The righthander allowed three runs in five innings.

David Housel is playing well at second base during the absence of Danny Bravo.
PJ Rose, Jr’s is now playing for the York Revs… I was super impressed that he didn’t take his glove and bat and go home… LOL. I’m sorry I couldn’t help myself.
We all love that little two out signal he gives to the outfielders. What I find most funny is that no one in the outfield even seems to be paying attention… but we certainly do along the first base line.
As a past little league first baseman, I know that we all learned to do that in Little League. He certainly has made an art of it over the years. Although I find it fun to watch, I also like the fact that he carried it over from his childhood to the pros.
As a seasoned AL player, his dangerous hitting can only help the lack luster hitting lineup that York posses.
Good get’um tonight, Stormers!

For the 1st time in 4 years PJ is actually hustling too. No more moping to the Dugout at then end of an Inning or an Out. He’s running everything out. I think he realizes he’s down to his last chance.
On the other side of the pillow…….
Great Bombs from Aaron last night……however……I didn’t appreciate the grandstanding after he hit the 1st bomb, standing between Home and 1st admiring his handywork and having to break into a full sprint to make it to 2nd when it hit the wall. It would have really been embarrsing if he had ended up with a 400 foot Single because of a lack of hustle. Just my opinion mind you. Just an example of the kind of lackadasical play that endears him to Stormer fans. Personally, I hate to see talent wasted.
Great game by Eric….nice Save by the “Big” guy
Go Stormers!!
I am going to beat MMantle to the punch tonight and tell you that both stolen bases were on the pitcher. The baserunner was off before Scobie finished his delivery to the plate. Morris never had a chance, especially on the second one.
Way to go Charlie!!! Best of luck!!
My favorite motion by PJ Rose is that quirky stork like motion he makes like he is pitching or posing like a scarecrow or doing a karate kid moment or whatever he is trying to do. It is like he doesnt realize there are 5,000 in reported attendance (or 2200 in real attendance) watching his weird cotortions.
PJ calls it a scorpion.
Why does he do it/what does it symbolize for him? I have noticed that one as well.
I believe he’s informing the outfield that there are two outs in the inning… Like I mentioned above… I believe we are talking about the same movements.
I find PJ Rose refreshing. Plays hard, loves the game, keeps coming back for more — can’ run a lick — not sure he could when he was younger — but he sure is true these days.
As someone approaching 60, I can’t help but enjoy Mr. Rose. Glad he’s playing close by in York (just don’t get too hot & carry the team like Matt LeCroy did for stretches last year for the Stormers, please).
Those baseball gestures learned in youth baseball and reinforced on the sandlot with a bit of PJ customization— I love them. I used the two-outs hand signal, too, when I was growing up along with a hand full of other signals — taught in the day — to keep everyone in the game. Gives me a warn glow whenever I see them.
Be nice to see a bunch of the Stormer bats at the same time as the second half approaches. As much fun as it is to watch well-pitched Atlantic League games — it’s more fun when the Stormer starters get a W. It’s July 4th and a great day for baseball. Let’s pound out about 20 hits and bring those runners in scoring position home. Go Stormers!
