The Barnstormers released Quincy Foster following Saturday night’s game. The outfielder hit .180 with one extra-base hit in 50 at-bats after signing on June 12. This was his fourth season in Lancaster. He also played here from 2005-07.
The team needed to make a roster move in order to activate P Eric Junge in time for Sunday’s start. Junge was on the inactive list while he negotiated a contract with a club in Korea. When that deal was not finalized, the team reinstated him. That put the roster at 26 and forced the corresponding move with Foster.

Wow!
Just not right.
Q you will be missed. Hope to see you show back up this season. That’s what always happens and it will bit us…
.180, do think so. We need a big bat!
Was this purely a “roster space move” until space can be made for him or Junge’s contract for Korea could be finialized ?
I know Quincey was injured the other evening, did this have something to do with it ?
no this is what happens when a player voices how they feel.
Please STOP these kind of comments. They serve NO purpose!
Sorry, I meant don’t think so. It’s late. Can’t wait till the second half. Welome back LJ. You were missed.
No, this is what happens when you hit 180 with one extra-base hit in 50 at-bats. Pure in simple. There was a time when Quincy was great for this team but since you have Turner and Woods, you don’t need another speedster. We need a big bat that can hit in “clutch” situations. That was proven tonight. When you have runners in scoring position, you got to get them home.
I like Quincy and have always enjoyed watching him play, but we need to do what is right for the team.
Some said to be careful posting “insider info” here. We all knew the references being made by were to Quincy. I hope those that passed on those comments feel better now that they helped contribute to his release. Sooner or later these kind of comments were going to catch up. I hope other players are now more careful with the information they share with the “fans” and “their friends”. Let’s get back to the baseball facts. The man was batting .180 and I for one am glad mangement decieded to cut the ties sooner rather then later. Let’s go out and win today. Enough of the soap opera drama. There is no crying in baseball!
“no this is what happens when a player voices how they feel.”
No this is what happens when you have to face the reality that maybe you just don’t have the skills anymore and complain to “friends”who then share this with the public. Friends are usually told things that shouldn’t be shared with others, that’s why they are friends. The word is trust.
Folks, you can’t have it both ways. You either want the team to win or you want the team to have all of your favorite players on it no matter how they perform. This is so reminiscent of Jordan Herr last year – both he and Quincy hitting under the Mendoza line with people debating their release. I give Jordan this much, he did not cause a distraction. From all indications on here (from those in “the know” or at least spreading rumors), Quincy was becoming a clubhouse problem.
Think of it this way, Kelley…if you went around complaining about management to everyone at your place of employment, what would happen?
I want this team to at least try to be competitive. If that means tough decisions must be made where a player who was popular, but is no longer producing must be released, then so be it. Baseball is a business for those who are a part of the team. It is entertainment for the rest of us.
RE- Quincy Foster release .. I don’t know the inside info on what was happening off the field. Von Hayes/front office staff’s job is to do what is the best for the team. Yes. It is a business. Yes. Employees should show discretion when talking w/ other players / people outside the organization.
Communications is as much an art as hitting a slider with bite. Some seem naturally skilled at this art or learn its path early in life— others work to master it over a lifetime. Fans, players and management need to talk to the people who can make a difference when an issue develops.
This is the key — open communications w/ those who are actors in the situation. Be proactive — let people know where they stand on a regular basis. No surprises. This is one reason why Charlie Manuel is known as a players’ manager. Baseball is more than making line ups/strategy or hitting, running, pitching.
If Foster talked w/ other players/friends rather than Hayes and Herr — that was a mistake. Von’s quote in the Sunday News today RE- Foster’s release left a bit to be desired: “It wasn’t a tough decison at all, not when he’s hitting a buck-eighty.” Not exactly taking the high ride.
Again, talk to the person involved — and in the public (where we don’t have the inside info to understand the background behind such statements), just give a gracious “… best wishes … the team needs to go in another direction etc.” As per the classic movie Bull Durham, know your cliches. Use them. They have a purpose when full disclosure w/ the public is not the best course of action.
Go Stormers. Eric Junge — sorry your contract has not been bought out yet — but I will enjoy seeing you start another game for the Stormers. You’ve been fantastic!
The fans that “know” so far this season would much rather have Quincy playing Fulltime instead of Junge Pitching and Adam Shorsherer Catching rather than Gerry Haran.
Isn’t it amazing how guys playing terrible are the ones complaining about playing time to their “friends”. I’m sure they are saying they can produce given a chance to play every day. Too bad their track record proves otherwise.
If Jimmy Rollins can get benched, anyone on this Team certainly can.
Kelley..you need to understand the game of baseball and the decisions that are made by managers and coaches. Everyone can see this is a move based on production and play. Von said it wasn’t a tough decision. Stormin in section20 said it best…you can’t have it both ways…WIN or favorite players. This kind of decision is made all the time in baseball. Its like when Ambrosini was released…THESE THINGS HAPPEN>there’s nothing wrong with Von wanting to improve this team…why must these comments continue to be made?
Looking forward to a great day at the ballbark on a beautiful Sunday afternoon! Loved seeing all the fans walking around in the blue Hawaiian jerseys last night. Unfortunately, I didn’t have one. Go Stormers!
I, too, am looking forward to a great day at the Clip. The weather looks to be beautiful today. My son and I having a catch on the field pre-game. What a great way to spend a Sunday. We typically do not attend the Sunday games due to church, but I saw it mentioned about a pre-game autograph session. How does that work? I am hoping it is easier for my boy than what he usually has to do down the right field line. If anyone can let me know how it operates, I would appreciate it.
I think Herr should have been let go
Yes sec 20 it’s on the field but only 5 or6 players will be there
Welcome back LJ!!!
Stormin in Section 20….The line forms to go down the field between sections 9 and 10. A few players will be out sitting on chairs and you just work your way down the line of players. In the past, it has been about 8 or 9 players/coaches.
Great! Thanks for the info. We appreciate it.
Folks… We all know that Quincy was not putting up the numbers and was also injured on a swing the other night, but…
From reading the Quincy quote in today’s Sunday News Sports, I guess Kelley was on target about Quincy voicing his opinion.
“Things weren’t going according to plan, and I said some things I shouldn’t have said,” Foster acknowledged in the corridor outside the team’s clubhouse.
Yes, it did sound like rumor at first and I can understand how that it could definitely be taken that way.
I would suggest that anything personal b/w any player and his fans should be kept personal/confidential until the player chooses to disclose what he feels or says. Yes, that may be wishful thinking on the player’s part, but players must also learn that what is said may not be kept confidential and therefore, he should learn to be discreet.
Good luck, Quincy. You were always an exciting player for us fans to watch. Your speed and ability to bunt safely will always be remembered. Take care and continue to play hard no matter where you land.
dadTB
Looks to me like several players are sleepwalking on the Field right now. The play is sluggish at best and lackadasical in the least.
Playing a game for a living is a privilege that players shouldn’t take for granted. If they don’t want to be here, go get a real job working 5am-3pm.
I’m sick of the rumors and inuendo. If you don’t like conditions in Lancaster…..QUIT. I don’t care if we lose every game the rest of the year but after today, I’m totally sick of watching supposedly Professional Ball Players not putting out and playing hard.
The effort the last 3 games has been an embarrassment to the Team, the Fans and the Game itself.
I really hate sounding so totally negative but I’m low on patience right now. This is turning into an Instant Replay of the last 2 seasons.
I went to today’s game with a good attitude. I have tried to be patient with Aaron Herr. I had stopped saying any negative about him because I was trying to give him a break. But today, with runners on first and second running and a liner hit to him…..he looks like he has no idea what to do with the ball once he catches it. If he acts faster, we see a triple play.
I mean, his father was a major league ballplayer. I never made it out of Little League. Even I knew that you throw the ball to second (if you cant tag the runner) as fast as you can and then the second baseman has a chance to throw it to the first baseman for a triple play. He held the ball like he didnt know what to do with the ball.
Is it just me or does he not look like a professional baseball player????
Maybe it will make a difference with Birnbaum and Morris in the outfield, but it looks like we have too many deficiencies (shown today) to make a run at the second half title.
Welcome 2007 part 3 the sequel.
I have tried to be positive about this but can’t anymore. There are way too many pieces missing to make a run at the second half. Atleast with York they have made the changes they needed to and secured the players they need for a second half run.
Good luck York looks like we will be chasing you throughout the second half.
Pack, you are right on about the play with Herr. I thought for sure we were going to witness a triple play as the hit and run was on. If Herr would have tug the runner or even thrown immediately to second, we had it.
Dad, I totally agree with you…let’s keep the personal comments made by players out of here until a player or management says something publicly. The only rumors I am interested in hearing about are player signings.
If I post something that a player say’s it’s because that player said it was okay to. I would never break the trust I have with players and post rumors.
With all the crap that is going on, why even ask a player if it’s ok to post? Why don’t you just tell the player to post it themselves? They don’t have to use their names. Didn’t Jeremy Todd post when he was a member of the team? If they don’t want to be quoted, then it is a rumor as far as I’m concerned. In the future the players name should be associated with the statement.
The worse part of the Herr play was that there was enough time to get 4 outs if he had just reacted (catch the ball, tag the runner, throw to 2nd, throw to 1st).
Lets think of something….
July 6th 2004, what were you doing?
Not watching or listening to any local baseball.
Fast forward to July 6, 2009 you have the ability to watch or listen to a local baseball team.
It is not a perfect world, never was never will be.
Relax, enjoy the fact that we have a baseball team to root for.
Go Stormers……Lets start a winning streak on the road…..
Thank You Tom.. I’ve been saying this all along but I get called names.. “your such a rah rah, go get your pom poms”.
I love sitting in the Clipp, socializing with my new found baseball friends. And if the Stormers win it’s a bonus.
Yea, it sucks when your favorite player gets released but … thats the game.
Win or lose they are OUR team!!!!
I enjoy watching baseball just like everyone, but when you go into the ninth inning winning and walk away with your head handed to you, it is hard to “relax”. Especially against York.
We are 2-8 out of the last 10 games and Newark went 3-7. This was our big chance to move into second place in the first half. That could come back and bite us at the end of the season.
We have starting pitchers that are pitching great games and the bull pen, and our defense, and our offense can’t hold a win. That sucks. I felt bad for Eric. Pitched a great game and would have got the win but no, gets a “no decision”. Forget about winning “on the road”, let’s just win.
We better watch out for York in the second half.
keep your eyes peeled for York, they’re looking like Rockets to the moon right about now!
