Throughout the rest of the season, I’m going to put together some personal diaries for LancasterBarnstormers.com. Players and coaches will tell stories about their careers in first person form and we’ll relay those on the Web site.
The first entry centers on manager Von Hayes, who talked about playing for the Phillies in 1983. He was a new addition to the team via a controversial 5-for-1 trade and he found himself surrounded by some of the greatest players in baseball history: Pete Rose, Mike Schmidt, Joe Morgan, Tony Perez and Steve Carlton. Even though the team reached the World Series, it was a tough season for Hayes.
Here’s a snippet:
“Back then I was coming off a very good year as a rookie. I was very confident, very cocky. It didn’t take long for a guy like Pete Rose to put me right in my place.
It’s an interesting look back through the eyes of a former major league all-star. Click here to read the entire diary.

Interesting story. I remember watching him that first season, never really thought back then I would get to meet him let alone talk to him.
Great Idea, Jason. I like it.
This is a great idea. I like to read and learn more about the members of the team.
Great idea. It would also be nice if information regarding transactions, DL list, major AL news and so on would show up on the site when they happen.
Thanks Jason.
Great idea, Jason!

Great idea but I didn’t read it because I don’t care to hear what Von has to say!
Hey Von. Were those boos as bad as you’re getting as a manager? I doubt it.

Lenny Dykstra: HOF (when he gets out of jail)
Hey MMouse…pick a Name and stick with it. Anyone who has to respond to a Post 2x or more in different Names is really a sicko….
Booby (I love calling a man by this name), what the dickens are you talking about? I guess that field fertilizer has affected your brain.
vonhERR to HOS.
Take your meds, old man and watch that blood pressure.
Old man? I bet I’m younger than you and my BP is 120/80 except fridays when i eat mexican food and during softball games on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
The thought is that you have stimulating drug type issues since you are infatuated with what I write and how I feel about the Barnstormers. *looking to see if Michael Jackson has any relatives named BoobieBama (love that name)*
I just state facts and statistics BoobieBama, and then contemplate what I think should be done and post it here on a free team specific blog. Nothing more-nothing less. It’s called freedom and done as “in my humble opinion” only.
BoobieBama for HOP.
You’re old news and quite irrelevant…ramble on.
