RECORD: 3-3 (36-40)
The Barnstormers are in the midst of a grueling stretch. They lost their July 9 off day because of a rainout and have a scheduled day-night doubleheader against York on Saturday. That means they have to play 33 games in the span of 32 days.
All of this is going to take a toll on the pitching. We saw signs of that Wednesday night. Manager Von Hayes stuck with starter Jason Scobie a little longer than he might have under normal circumstances. Scobie allowed a walk to Juan Francia and a bloop single to Lew Ford to start the eighth inning. Both of those runners came around to score as Long Island rallied from a one-run deficit and grabbed a 3-2 victory. Scobie suffered a hard-luck loss.
The good news is Scobie has pitched extremely well since the all-star break. The righthander has a 2.86 ERA in 22 innings in July and has provided a much-needed lift to the rotation after Eric Junge departed for Korea.
Because the bullpen pitched 6 2/3 innings Tuesday night and because the doubleheader Saturday is two 9-inning games and will require a spot starter, getting through the rest of the week is going to be a challenge for the pitching staff.

Not if there is a complete game somewhere in that mix. If the SP can’t go more than 5 Innings, it’s a problem whether there is a Twinbill on Saturday or not. If the RP we have can’t go back -to-back days, then we need some Pitchers that can.

1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 X R H E
Somerset 2 0 2 0 0 14 5 4 0 27 24 2 final
Newark 1 0 0 5 0 0 4 0 0 10 13 3
Somerset scored two touchdowns in the 6th inning.
27 runs scored is an Atlantic League record.
Couldn’t have said it better myself, Booby.
Utterly amazing!
(Cylo pun intended)
Wow… all that in 3 hrs. and 8 minutes! Best entertainment in Newark that night besides the opening of the new Harry Potter release, ‘Half Blood Prince.’ Welcome Back Potter!

Cute…lol…is Horseshack there???
I would have put Sabatella in for defense in the bottom of the 9th..oh wait a minute. It’s amazing how quickly our personnel moves seem to blow up. This is becoming comical.
Can we please hold on to the lead the next time?
I happen to turn the game on just when Ray Navarette was on first… then second… then scored the winning run! ARRRGGGHHHH!
I think I’ve figured out the problem. The team freezes up when I listen to them. Yea, that’s the ticket. No, wait… that can’t be right because I’ve actually heard games this year over the computer and the radio which they won. What other excuse can I come up with that makes just about as much sense… LOL.
Come home, guys! We are dying for baseball in Lancaster.

p.s. 32 games in 33 days can’t be good on the ole’ pitching arms. No way, no how!
Well hitting is where it’s at with Von…and he had to have these two catchers in the game at the same time.
You get Morris blowing a routine grounder at first allowing the tying run to get on, and Haran dropping a great throw from the outfield to cut down the winning run. No matter what, I have Mulhern playing first base from here on out in close games.
I know Haran hit a blop single to put the team ahead, but that doesn’t matter if you don’t play defense and make plays.
It’ll be good for these guys to get back home, but they shouldn’t be getting back with a losing 2nd half record.
And WHY was Sabby sent DOWN ???????
I told you all…Somerset was going to win the 2nd half to try and tie our records from 2006 and like I said we have to have a better record overall than Newark and York.
They need to get some late inning help pronto..we shoulda, coulda, woulda come home at least 8-3 if we don’t blow late leads (on this road trip).
Nice to see Somerset on a roll and have 27 runs!!!
Way to hang in there Stormers, good luck here at home!
I also think Somerset is going to win the 2nd half as well. They are a really good ball team with a lot of experience.
