The Barnstormers are headed into the final week of their fifth anniversary season. Their playoff hopes are alive, although unlikely, at this point. They trail Long Island by five games with nine to play. The Ducks have seven games remaining on their schedule and are only two back of Southern Maryland in the Liberty Division. A lot remains undecided.
There’s a chance for the Barnstormers to pick up two wins today. In addition to the regularly scheduled game, they and Somerset will resume the suspended game from Aug. 19. The score was tied at 2 with Lancaster about to bat in the bottom of the seventh when rain halted play. Play begins at 5:05 p.m.
Even if they don’t make the playoffs, the Barnstormers can post a winning half for the first time since their championship season. They are 30-31 overall this half and 24-22 since Tom Herr took over as manager.

ATLANTIC LEAGUE WILD CARD RACE UPDATE
ATLANTIC LEAGUE WILD CARD RACE UPDATE
Through games of 9/13/09
In an effort to keep Atlantic League fans up to date with the Wild Card options, the league will be updating the daily standings to reflect the Wild Card chase also.
To that end the final First Half Standings have been placed at the bottom of the Standings link on the left hand side of the main page and a regular wild card update will be added to the News link on the main page where total season team record will be shown in an effort to keep fans on top of the Wild Card Race.
With Southern Maryland and Somerset, both first half winners in their respective divisions, currently in first place in the second half there will be more teams involved in the chase as more teams will compete for the Wild Card.
Remember should both teams go wire to wire and finish in first place again in their divisions the league is prepared for a Double Wild Card situation in which the next two teams with the best overall record would make the playoffs.
Should the double Wild Card come into play, each wild card team shall remain in its own division for the Division Series to insure each division a representative in the Championship Series.
Through games of September 13:
TEAM W L GB
Newark Bears 70 62 –
Long Island Ducks 69 64 1.5
Lancaster Barnstomers 63 68 6.5
My Confusion is the last paragraph.
It would seem it indicate that Newark is our foe and Long Island is not our problem
I know in the past “best overall record was the rule”,
But apparently they add an exception for double wild cards.
Wow_York released PJ Rose. Not that it matters for them this late in the season.
Long Island won and we got sweep. I assume the run for the playoffs is over. Just like last year, too little, too late. Bring on 2010.
Yup, time to rethink how they want to put a winning product on the field for next year. Off the top of my head I can think of better middle relief. Also, maybe try to sign some of Somerset’s players! Was still another fun year – I do miss the excitement of watching them as a really good/great team, as oppposed to what we have watched the past few years.
I agree with you JSM – it was another year of fun at the stadium. I enjoyed watching every game and every player. Looking forward to seeing many of them next next year. It was also another “fun” filled year on the blog! LOL Hope the blog continues through the off season and next season! It keeps us us die-hard fans off the streets and out fo the bars! LOL
Wait til next year! (I feel like a Cubs fan.)
