Ian Bladergroen’s deal became official today. The first baseman, acquired in a trade with Southern Maryland last week, becomes the 18th player under contract. He’s also the first starting position player signed who wasn’t on last year’s team.

The Yankees have finalized their opening-day roster. Scott Patterson isn’t on it. The team reassigned the righthander to minor-league camp late Friday. He’s expected to open the season in Triple-A.

Sam Snider, who was hired by the team in December, has left to join the York Revolution. Lancaster has named Charles “Boots” Day to be Snider’s replacement.

Scott Patterson made his spring-training debut for the Yankees against the Phillies today.
The righthander, wearing No. 70, pitched one-third of an inning. Coincidentally, he faced Phillies catcher Chris Coste. It was an interesting matchup because Coste — like Patterson — toiled in independent ball for years before finally getting his shot.
