ROSTER MOVE: P Reymond Cruz has been activated. P Joanniel Montero has been placed on the inactive list.
The Barnstormers took three of four from Bridgeport and have improved their road record to 26-37. Eleven of the 17 full games on their schedule are at home and there’s only one overnight-stay road series remaining (at Somerset Sept. 14-16). This could bode well for Lancaster. The team is 31-28 and has a collective ERA of 3.79 at the Clip and is 6-1 at York’s Sovereign Bank Stadium, where it plays the Revs next weekend.

The Barnstormers’ six-game winning streak ended Wednesday night, but they didn’t lose any ground to Newark in the wild-card standings. The Bears lost to York, 13-4. The Barnstormers are five back with 18 to play (plus the suspended game against Somerset that’s tied 2-2 in the seventh).
OF/1B Jason Cooper made his debut for the Barnstormers Wednesday. He doubled in a pinch-hitting appearance. P Reymond Cruz will be activated when Lancaster returns home to face Long Island Friday. The team will have to make a corresponding roster move to clear space at that time. Cruz spent most of the season in the United League with Rio Grande. His highest level of advancement in affiliated ball is High-A Clearwater.

UPDATE: The Barnstormers have signed P Reymond Cruz.
The Barnstormers expect to make a roster addition prior to tonight’s game against the Bluefish. OF Jason Cooper will be signed and activated.
Cooper, a left-handed hitter, started the season with the Indians at Triple-A Buffalo, where he hit .169 in 65 at-bats. He was released and picked up by St. Paul of the American Association and batted .288 with 11 homers and 44 RBIs in 54 games before the Saints’ season ended last week. Cooper was originally a third-round pick by the Indians and has spent most of his career in Triple-A. His career stats are here.
To make room for Cooper on the roster, the Barnstormers placed C Dave Adamchick on the inactive list.
As for the Barnstormers, their winning streak has reached six games, one short of their season high. They remain five games behind Newark for what will likely be the final playoff spot.

The Barnstormers’ five-game winning streak is their longest since May 22-29 when they won seven in a row to improve to 17-16 for the season. They have moved within five games of Newark for the second wild-card spot. Lancaster and Newark do not play again this season.

The Barnstormers’ four-game winning streak has provided a flicker of life as they head into a four-game series at Bridgeport. The Bluefish are one of three teams ahead of the Stormers for the two wild-card playoff spots that will likely be available.
A couple of other notes:
*P Nick Abel has left the team to resume his education. His spot in the bullpen was taken by Kane Davis Saturday.
*CBS-21 produced a nice story about C Jed Morris here.
*P Tom Cochran has been promoted by the Reds to Triple-A Louisville.

Much has changed since the last time the Barnstormers played the Revolution on July 19. Both teams have new managers — Tom Herr and Andy Etchebarren — but neither team has been able to push its way into the second-half race. Both are nine games back of first-place Somerset with time on the calendar running short.
How are the new managers faring? The Barnstormers are 12-18 since Herr took over for Von Hayes on July 24. The Revolution are 6-7 under Etchebarren, including their current three-game winning streak. Etch has already signed a contract to manage the club in 2010.
